Use the MCA to determine wire size (40.6), which would be 8 gauge. The MOP allows you to size for a fault condition (locked rotor for instance) without having nuisance trips with inrush current.

Start relay and start capacitor are optional on some scroll applications. It would be nice to know when the extra components are absolutely required. I have added them without knowing if they were required. My thoughts were it can't hurt.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't work on too many single phase compressors but I rarely see scrolls with starting relays. It would depend on the model number or capacity I'm assuming. I have seen starting relays with the ol' reciprocating compressors like the Bristols and Tecumseh's. Adding a 521 won't hurt it, I prefer those than the hard starts.

We've often had winters like this in Arizona down through the decades. Decades ago I was up on a lake in central Arizona during Christmas week out fishing on my boat during the middle of the day wearing a tee shirt.. A week later as I was driving away from the lake, winter started to blow in with some light snow flurries. You never know what you're going to get.
Typically we don't get any real winter until Jan - Feb.
    Love the old school gauges.

If you ever get into a pickle where you don’t have the Copeland factory start cap and relay, the subco SPP6/8 with the built in potential relay work great until you get back with the right parts

Yea, i was Allways taught size it at Max amps / Max breaker size on the Tag. it Has allways done me Right ! Your Probably right though. That 40 amp breaker is old & weak. they could TRY just replacing that breaker if they have no money right now. if they have the cash they need to get a 60amp breaker & wire in there.min. Good catch on the NO START Components. 🤦‍♂️. Good vid. bummer the video fell apart at end.
