- Dick Enberg, Al McGuire, and Billy Packer broke down the 1981 college basketball scene from Philadelphia, a few weeks before the Final Four came to town. Taped and aired prior to the Notre Dame at DePaul game on 3/8/81. Great commercials too!
The best college basketball broadcast trio ever!
I was way too young to remember them broadcasting together. My Dad said it was such a good crew to watch basketball games and McGuire/Packer were at opposite ends when they announced which made it better. CBS blew it by not having them together.
RIP Dick Enberg, Al McGuire & Billy Packer
Vandeweghe makes that layup UCLA is 80 national champion. That was the play of the game. Jerry Eaves.
Kenny Loggins' "This Is It" being the soundtrack to NBC's 1980 & 1981 tournament coverage. Fitting for the latter since it was the final one before CBS took over the bulk of college b-ball.
The last year NBC covered the Big Dance. I didn't remember this because I was 6 when this was taped. But I enjoyed Dick and Al on those Sat and Sun afternoon broadcast after CBS with Billy Packer and Gary Bender.
R.I.P Al Dick & Billy
Al Mcquire special's were classic
This is nice!!😁😁
Great stuff as always. Keep it coming!
I can't wait to see what else you upload to your channel.
Great post. Al picked DePaul and Billy picked Oregon St......both were upset in the first round.
Not to be technical, but it was the 2nd round. DePaul and Oregon State were the top 2 seeds
@@mongoslade277 Good catch. That was a few years before the field expanded to 64 and there was a first round by for the top seeds.
@davepetrella8580 Think the top 4 seeds in each region got a bye. DePaul and Oregon St lost their first game, like 3 straight years. Both were 1 seeds every time
Energy schooled those guys at the end.
Clam Haskins rookie coach of them year 1981. Given NCAA show cause ban.
More please!!
More vintage college hoops coming soon!
This Is It was abandoned pretty quick for 1776.
Thank you for sharing this!! Does anyone have the 1982 Kodak All American Women's Basketball Video?
I did upload a few Women's All-America films from that era ('81, '84, '85) and may have, or may possibly be able to get, the 1982 film. Can't guarantee it but I'll look into it.
Thank you Joe! I would really appreciate any help! @@joetolstoy3573
Hey what is the name of the song that was used during the clip about 1980 Louisville vs. UCLA title game recap?
According to the copyright details, it's called "Street Wave" by The Brothers Johnson
@@joetolstoy3573 It's actually called "This is It" by Kenny Loggins, which is somewhat appropriate, as it was NBC"s last NCAA basketball tournament before CBS took over.
@@Tubewings "This Is It" is used in the intro to the program but a different song is used during the UCLA/Louisville highlights at around 2:40. I think that's what the OP is asking about.
can you please upload the 1981 NCAA Tournament selection show A.K.A prelude to March 14
That must be a good one if you remember it. Sorry I don't have it. My basketball library is quite small compared to football. I will be posting that BYU football video I promised you. Probably by tonight.
@@joetolstoy3573 including the 1984 season where BYU started the season not even ranked in the top 20 have moved all the up to the heavyweight division took out a past champion for the sport's highest ranking
@@StFidjnr The team that made me a BYU fan! The video is about the history of Cougars football but has an extended look at the 1984 national championship season.
@@StFidjnr😂😂. They barely beat a 6-5 Michigan team in their bowl game. Washington should claim that national championship
