    In the basement of the Kremlin, we find a treasure with an immeasurable price. Accumulated centuries ago by the Tsars, in a surprising manner and with great discernment, it was never squandered by the Soviets and it is still practically intact today.
    This film will guide you through the epic history of all Russian Emperors, which were damned to possess the most exceptional of gems.
    You will witness the fall of the White Movement in Russia, where one of the key figures, Rasputin gave the Tsarina a Ruby with supernatural powers, which would have protected the Tsarevich, while plunging his family into chaos.
    You enter into the secrets of the ruling families of the Western world, with the meeting Alexandra and Nicolas II.
    Further in time, you will discover how Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia, has ordered for her coronation, a crown covered with diamonds and precious stones.
    This film takes you to the source of these diamonds in the mines of Diamantina, Brazil, but also to mines of Golconda, India, from which the huge diamond Orloff originates.
    The romantic history, of the Count with the same name, lover of the Empress, who bought it for his beloved, will be revealed.
    Images from the end of the Second World War will show you how the Nazis looted a priceless amount of jewels from the Amber Room in St. Petersburg. The treasures have never been found; but the Room has been completely restored and reconstructed with gold and amber from the Baltic...

      This was during the First World War. Russia was at war with Germany so his cousin, Kaiser Wilhelm, wouldn't save him. The Kaiser himself lost his throne. King George of England was also a cousin, but the English population was very anti-German and anti-Russian. It was a very chaotic, turbulent time, but I agree; one would think someone could have helped.

    Pearls, especially round ones, were more valuable than diamonds before the advent of 'cultured pearls' in 1907 in Europe. This is why we see pearls and not diamonds in old paintings. This is why "The girl with the pearl earring" by Vermeer caused such a shock. A servant girl trying on a pearl earring of her mistress!!! The painting was a social statement of magnitude, something that people cannot understand anymore because pearls have become as cheap as raisins.

    • @El_Conde_Murad
      @El_Conde_Murad 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Well, I don't know what do you mean by "cheap" ...that applies only to fresh/saline water cultured "barroque" pearls and, to the fancy colored ones especially, sold by string for cheap bijuterie. But: --- Natural sea pearls are still highly expensive and still, some specimens worth way more than diamonds by karat weight. One just needs to know about real pearls (luster, shape, color, weight, roundness perfection, light reflection etc), the market and to know the ideal places where to buy them with authenticity background. The most trusted place to buy a nice good natural pearl is Japan, due their millenary reputation of some pearl houses, they won't risk that such reputation by selling junk.

    • @thephilosopherofculture4559
      @thephilosopherofculture4559 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@El_Conde_Murad Certainly. But like artificial diamonds take away some of the mystique and luster of natural diamonds, so do cultured pearls take away the scarcity and special status of natural pearls. Today, we see now rubies coming up as a new special gem stone. People will always covet rare and beautiful things. I predict moon gems will be all the rage within twenty years.

      @@lauragregorius6578 Yes, but the point is that when you see a person with a pearl necklace, we do not immediately see a value of many millions of euros hanging around her neck. That used to be different. The Hermitage has an exhibition about the jewels of the tsars, from Catherine the Great (1729-1796) onwards. On the larger than life-size paintings you see the pearl necklaces like there is an abundance of them. I and the people I visited the exhibition with, twice, do not feel the sensation any more. hermitage.nl/en/exhibitions/jewels/ Look at these paintings. Nothing but pearls. The first painting you see with the many BIG pearls - wow! - she must be wearing the equivalent of half a billion euros or something in modern money, perhaps even more when calculated in buying power.

    • @olavwilhelm6843
      @olavwilhelm6843 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      clearly no understanding of art on your side !! the painting drew attention cause of the intimate setting that draws the viewer's attention exclusively on her !where is it written that the piece was a shock "back then"? you got a bit lost in the movie!! It is common knowledge that Vermeer did not need to use his Wife's jewellery !!
      The pearl is a symbol of perfection and incorruptibility; it is a symbol of long life and fertility and highly feminine therefore often used in art ,besides much more effective in a painting than a diamond!! you need to do a bit art history home work before commenting otherwise you make an exhibition of yourself :-)

      Try to remember most of the jewelry was already bought and paid for long before Nicholas came to the throne. His wife was the daughter of Princess Alice and the Duke of Hesse. Alice was the second daughter of Queen Victoria of England. Alice died of typhus along with two children leaving 4 daughter's and a son. Queen Victoria hand raised the Hesse sisters.
      The youngest Alix is who married the young Czar soon after his father died unexpectedly.
      Alix was raised English not German, nothing flashy about her. Minimum staff, she nursed and cared for her own babies (completely unheard of) let's just say she was very careful with money. She would rather put the money towards hospitals.
      She never got credit for anything good she done.
      The public from her wedding day until many years after her death said so many disrespectful things about her until they found out it wasn't her at all. She was treated like a enemy instead of the Czarina of the country!
      All put in place by Lenin and the Bolshevik rat squad! A none stop smear campaign.
      If you want to know the real truth, read the new book Royal Martyrs what death couldn't silence.
      They lined up her children and shot them like dogs and poured acid on them and dropped them in a hole. Then they found her sister and threw her in a hole with dynamite. Then they hunted down Prince Michael, he hasn't been found yet! The Czars Mother and sisters were picked up by the HRM MARLBOROUGH sent by the queen consort of England and sister of the Dowager mother with explicit instructions bring my family back do whatever you have to, take them to my home in Denmark. Both Queens were Princesses of Denmark before they married. Both of her sons were dead!
      Nicholas didn't let anyone starve. If he didn't have so many people setting him up for failure, causing calamities constantly, Wars, and the worst possible thing his son and heir inherited the Hemophilia gene passed from mother to son that started with Queen Victoria. Albert and Victoria were first cousins, so there you have the problem. They rarely traveled, people said the daughter's were of marriage age yet acted more like young children because of their lack of social skills. Alix was a money mixer! Sorry for going on like this but writters have been printing lies for 100 years, the world needs the truth.
      If you're really interested the book is amazing, absolutely researched. And many times in their own words because all their diaries have been let out of prison finally and they have been transcribed.

      It seems kind of tacky and most royals inherited things that were from their ancestors of that bought it or took it from people with much less. Still it's people like you that get people killed like the czar's family for wanting what others have. I'm pretty sure we're not supposed to covet the things of others. I think in a way that Royal people are kind of disgusting. I believe in being charitable but not by force because somebody complains or thinks they deserve something that they didn't earn. I would say the royals are part of that group in a lot of cases. Coveting what others have and dictating what they should do with what they have causes a lot of the hardships around the world.

Until Russia learns this lesson, it will continue to falter. They speak of the curse of the ruby. Maybe if Russia asks God for forgiveness, its many woes will cease to exist. But as it is now, people pity Russia for losing what wasn't hers to begin with. Likewise, the country needs to denounce the soldiers who killed the Tsar family. Go look on TH-cam to find radio and film footage of the soldiers bragging about killing the family. Human suffering is nothing to be proud of. Somehow Russia glorifies people who do this. Very true!
      If only todays wealthy could understand this one truth!
      Unfortunately I see another slaughter coming as corporations disregard the needs of locals, poisoning the water through dumping of dangerous chemicals, over use of ground water, the constant raising cost of basic needs ( food, water, heat ) and over 40 years of stagnan, frozen and or reduced wages as thousands fight for handful of jobs...
      Sooner or later the poor, thirsty, hungry, homeless and those sick or with family too poor to afford healthcare are going to collectively say "ENOUGH is ENOUGH! NO MORE will be your slaves!" and those who do not care about the plight of poverty, homelessness, starvation and social violence will be trampled beneath the weight of the injustices they imposed

    I design jewelry and have indulged in creating it, as well as drowning myself in its aesthetics by seeking and collecting images of beautiful pieces for over 50 years. The history of these amazing gems and jewelry is fascinating because of its convoluted and often bloody details. But one point which is worth noting.....is that all the royals who came or come to possess them use funds extracted from their poor subjects, or wealth looted from others. Is it any wonder then, that they carry such dark and heavy energies? 🤔

    It absolutely drove me crazy trying to place the narrator. At 24:04 in I realized it was the actress Liv Tyler. She has distinctive soft voice that I knew was a voice actor immediately. I can’t figure out why she read over the Indian gentleman speaking perfect English but perhaps she wasn’t given a full viewing before doing her script reading. Perhaps they just sent it to her in pieces to narrate.

    I got to see this fascinating exhibit in Topeka Kansas in the 90s I think. There was one section that had a fake horse pulling a sled in the snow, and quite a few people working there said the horse would move at night. It's ears would move and the clopping of hooves could be heard at night by security guards.

      “It remained in the Soviet Union, which, after a number of years, disintegrated.” The “which” refers to the subject immediately before. This means that the “disintegration” refers to “Soviet Union,” not the ruby. The narrator’s English is just fine. English being someone’s first language is not an indication that he/she has mastered it.

    @Voillot Patrick, this was a great TH-cam find! I thought this was a fascinating documentary, very well put together and researched. The jewels were so opulent and although I knew of the original Amber Room, I could never picture it in my mind. The concept was easy but the range of colours were something I could never imagine.The replica room looks incredible, how would it feel to be able to order an entire room of amber built on a whim? Other rulers must have marvelled at the size and cost of it, that the Russian royals were so superior that they didn't just wear the jewels, instead they adorned whole walls with them. I wonder if they discarded those pieces with insects inside as imperfect specimens? Like all good documentaries, this one has stimulated my thoughts and prompted more questions for me to find answers to.
