Pigeon Blood Red Rubies from Burma are the rarest, most expensive rubies in the world. The best come from Mogok, a town in the Mandalay Division of Myanmar, near the Chinese border, and closed to all foreigners.
This film takes you into the heart of the region described in Joseph Kessel’s famous mid-twentieth century novel, "The Valley of Rubies".
The adventure begins in Rangoon, visiting one of the greatest of Buddhist Temples, the Shwedagon Pagoda, where by reaching the summit; you will have the privilege of contemplating the priceless diamonds and precious jewels adorning the top.
The next part will take you to Mandalay, which has long been host to the Kings of Burma. This is the city where the white marble sculptors work to create the Buddhist monuments.
Then further north, you will enter into the sanctuary of jewels: Mogok, Burma. Many have desired entry, few have had the opportunity.
In this movie, you will discover the traditions and ancestral myths of the inhabitants in this country. As close to mining as you've ever been; you will enter into the galleries leading to the dark bowels of the earth where miners dig the walls with dynamite. You will also be among those who ‘sort’ at the end of each day in the alluvium screen giants. Before your very eyes, miners will extract stones of the most beautiful of red colored stones, called "pigeon blood rubies". These gemstones are of exceptional rarity. The Burmese say that seeing one is like seeing the face of God.
You will enter into a world of secrets: mines operated by the military, wealthy merchants who have gems of inestimable value, and finally, markets where the only food for sale are gemstones.
Then you will be invited into the most prohibited of annual auctions in the world, the Emporium in Yangon. Official sales of rubies, jade, pearls and other precious stones from Burma were made in this incredible building.
Finally, you can muse over the creations of jeweler Fred Place Vendôme in Paris.

How in the world have I missed your channel before now? I love your content. I collect stones that I plan will go to my children. I gave my new daughter in law on their wedding day, 2 princess cut 2ct each (4 tcw) rubies, so that my son could have earrings made for her. Ruby is her birthstone and I knew that she had absolutely nothing like it! I had a pair of beautiful moonstone cufflinks made for my son for his wedding day.

I bet Patrick is wealthy! Anyone who can travel the world and have enough clout to be let into the mines and the inner workings would have to be.
But I also dream of seeing a working mine and having an opportunity, someday, to find a stone at a mine, that I can keep. But I'm already 52 years old and my hiking days are likely over, so it would have to be an easy excursion! But I can dream! I also dream I'm doing it all with a sexy man with a good heart lollll

Very good documentary. However, there are some glaring mistakes in your presentation. Burma is the name given by the British colonists when they ruled the country. The original and official name is MYANMAR. The population of the country is closer to 55 million, not 44 million. Rangoon is the anglicized version of Yangon and used to be the capital. Not anymore, Naypyidaw became the administrative capital in 2004, but Yangon is still the commercial hub and largest city in Myanmar.
Except for the afore mentioned errors, this is a well put together and very informative documentary.

I hope these miners make amazing finds, they deserve it
(Edit: The Burmese govt is not good, as we can see in today's news and the finds get seized by the millitary..
Very sadening, I don't know what to say)

Yes, they're finding precious ruby but get ripped off by the wealthy and educated.

Even if they do make amazing finds, the military seizes it. The military then sells it & uses the proceeds to fund human rights abuses & genocide.

Once upon a time when I was younger I believed in wishes and I always look up to heaven and look for falling star and make my wish I heard it is goodluck to see falling star and you make a wish so every night I look at heaven and look for the falling star so I can make a wish. But when I can't find I make myself believe that I seen one and make a wish

The pyramid always seems to start with the peons down at the bottom, and end up at some high-end jewelry salon somewhere. Neither end has much to do with the other.

Tourists should also beware of lead glass filled rubies. I’ll settle for a man made ruby of a big size being how expensive natural ones are, and how small or rather included naturals which are found in most jewelry.

    • @michaelrose93
      @michaelrose93 4 ปีที่แล้ว

*Most* rubies nowadays are glass-filled, or at least melted (heated) to get rid of imperfections. The one that the guy found down in that mine, oh yeah, that's quite rare; almost all of them are treated to get them to look like that, unfortunately.
