    Marwyn would have to have balls of steel to peek into Bloodraven's cave because if he can see Bloodraven and Bran, they can certainly see him and that's the kind of attention I personally wouldn't want on me

    Random (possibly tinfoil) idea: Danny was warned of a Mummer's Dragon, which I always thought was Fagon or Aegon. However, Euron has a dragon horn, and if he offers it to her under false pretense/lies about who he is, I wonder if he could be considered the Mummer's Dragon, or whichever dragon the horn helps him take control of, could be the Mummer's Dragon since it'll basically be the puppet of whoever owns the horn. I'm enjoying catching up on all of these and the different ideas they bring up. Wonderful stream!! Thank you for making this.

    I like the theory that Quaithe is Shiera Seastar, Bloodravens former lover with whom he practised the dark arts. It would add a extra motivation for Quaithe to help Dany if she's a Targ too. Also all the stars and the starry wisdom, sailors' religion => sea star. I'd love to see Bran communicate with her or see her on the astral plane.

      I like that, and it would be well in keeping with blood Raven and her trying to manipulate events the way they need to go. I also like the theory that squaids could be the girl Alyssa farmin who stole the three dragon eggs all those years ago on the ship sunchaser. During the dance of dragons corley's valerian the sea snake claims to have seen her ship the sunchaser docked at a port of asshai, where Quaithe is supposedly from. And if she really is Alyssa it would definitely explain why she showed up simply to see the three dragons that Danny now had. Wouldn't you want to see them if you had owned all three of those dragon eggs and found out that they had been hatched by someone? Either of those theories I think are very likely and it would be cool to see either of those bear fruit

    Excellent as always LmL , always down for GEotD , CoSW , Bloodstone Emperor discussion. Certainly an interesting element of the narrative's mythos , legend , lore and mystery. Look forward to your GeotD Part 2 dealing with more of the connections and influence of the EotD with ancient Westeros. As for the CoSW definitely seems Euron encountered and likely was indoctrinated by the CoSW on his travels as he is striving to match or even surpass the BE 's atrocities. The CoSW and likely Quiathe (who seems associated with them) definitely would appear to be a great source of information regarding mysteries , arcana and essential huge questions of Planetos regarding the Long Night , origins of dragons and beyond given they have persisted over so many millennia and possible directly involved in some of those ancient legends / events. Marwyn and Quaithe who both have either traveled through or directly associated with Asshai in Q 's case definitely seem to be the twin pillars that will push Dany towards putting her attention to dealing with the true imminent threat of the Others.
    As for as Quaithe in particular she is certainly an intriguing character who is the subject to a lot of speculation and debate. Elissa Farman seems to be the candidate of the moment by many in the fandom being she was supposedly spotted in Asshai by the Sea Snake but to me that is sort of all there is to go by , the Asshai connection is something to look out for and i am not ruling it out but i think Shiera Seastar is a much stronger candidate to be Quaithe. Looking at SS , she dabbled in sorcery , even rumored to use magic / rituals (like bathing in blood to preserve her youth) and such can be construed to possibly extend her life via magic and still be alive , also they both share star imagery the star-light mask and whispers of stars imagery with Quaithe (just to name a couple) analogous to her Seastar / Star of the Sea alias and star imagery around Shiera. Also SS was / is the blood of the dragon , Quaithe is pushing Dany to embrace her dragon blood / roots heritage which seems to match up nicely between SS & Q . Also i think it would be fitting given their past if SS and Bloodraven endured similar paths and roles ; with unnaturally long lives tied to magic , both associated with magical factions BR with the old gods / Weirwoods and if true Shiera with shadow magic / CoSW , both were associated with magic in their younger days as well , both have blood of the dragon and would be fitting if Bloodraven has his champion Bran to deal with the Others and SS has hers with Dany. I think SS is the strongest candidate to be Quaithe although I am not 100% sold and open to other possibilities.

    • @zoethesmall3601
      @zoethesmall3601 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As simplistic as it may be, why does Quaithe talk in riddles to Dany? If she’s Sheira S, related to her why, wouldn’t she tell her that? I realise GRRM weaves mysteries into the story all the time but this just seems to have no end point to it? I think this might be 1 thing we never find out and that’s he has her speaking in maddening riddles just to give us lots to think about but will never be answered. His own ‘inside’ joke possibly ?

    • @alexb3604
      @alexb3604 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@zoethesmall3601 , as i said i am not 100% sold on any theory with Quaithe yet but many of late are assuming Q is Elissa Farman because Corlys may have spotted her ship in Asshai ; but to me that is basically all there is to go on. Ntm she would be basically hundreds of years of old EF at this point whereas SS is around the same age as Bloodraven who is more realistically still alive with a little magical help prolonging life. I think with SS there are a lot of parallels and more evidence for her than any other candidate to be Quaithe as i said in my original comment here above. If she is actually someone from the narrative's fairly recent history.
      I am open to Quaithe being her own unique character not necessarily someone we have heard about or familiar with before and would not be much less satisfying , at least for me , similar to what might be going on with Septa Lemore . But also just because Q has not came out and said she is actually such and such does not rule it out either , its not even like Bloodraven immediately came out and said "Hi I am Brynden Rivers" and BR has been seen in the text much more than Q to reveal that. Ntm GRRM has uses these hidden identities for characters including those not disclosing their identity or pretending to be someone else over and over and over , so we have precedent for that. Also, SS is a couple generations back from Dany and was an illegitimate Targ so its not like if she did come out and indicate who she was it would mean much more than her not doing so , it is not like they are immediate relations. And similar to Bloodraven guiding Bran and if SS is guiding Dany as Q , they have been indoctrinated by new causes with new motivations and endgames anyway , so who they were previously is also somewhat less consequential. But the parallels and connections and reasons why SS would have been selected for example match up and make way more sense and a much more compelling argument to be Q than the one for Elissa Farman that I hear about a lot of late.

    • @thupple
      @thupple 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree that SS is the best candidate for. Quaithe. The symmetry is lovely. Farman is just someone who might have gotten lost near Asshai. Nothing else about her smacks of Quaithe.

    • @alexb3604
      @alexb3604 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thupple yes i agree , outside of possibly her ship being spotted by the Sea Snake there in Asshai thats about the only connection. She was not even a known magic user or associated with magic like SS or have that symmetry you mentioned as a foil for Bloodraven which works nicely they followed similar paths , assumed similar roles and has her own champion against the Others like BR has. Ntm SS is actual blood of the dragon as well.
      Also with EF i find a contradictory concept ; EF likely stole dragon eggs from the Targs , likely are the ones that came full circle and wound up with Dany a couple hundred years later. But at the time stealing them was a huge slight and basically an act of war against the Targs. Jaehaerys I basically wanted to go fire and blood against large parts of Essos in hopes to find and recover the eggs and was hugely angered by this act. So for EF to take such an action against the Targs which could have ended up being a huge threat against them to me just does not add up that she would be so staunchly guiding Dany to embrace her dragon nature. Ntm its far less plausible that EF is even still alive a couple hundred years later compared to SS. SS who dabbled in sorcery to preserve her youth so not much of a leap to prolong life and being around the same age as Bloodraven who also has been given a prolonged life via connection to magic is much more plausible that SS would still be alive compared to EF who lived numerous generations even before BR & SS.
      SS just works on so many levels and is far and away the strongest candidate to be Quaithe if she is indeed someone from the narrative's past that we have heard of and / or are familiar with.

    • @thupple
      @thupple 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alex B Well said, & I totally agree on all points! The EF stuff just seems like recency bias. what do you think of the related theory that Melisandre is the child of SS and BR?

      @@pawemarsza9515 That's a good point. At the very least, the connections between Euron, and Lovecraft's stone are there. The shining black/red appearance of the stone, and Euron's eye. Also, another potential connection. In Lovecraft's "The Haunter of the Dark" the stone is thrown into Narragansett Bay, by Dr. Ambrose Dexter, after he obtains it. Euron (supposedly) obtains a dragon egg, and then he throws it in the sea. Maybe these connections are intentional by GRRM? Idk.. It's all very interesting, tho.

    Euron being a Church of Starry Wisdom disciple is really interesting, clearly even as a young man his mind had already diverged from his culture into a very dark direction, what with the fratricide and rape. The fact that the Iron Islands are essentially and entire region of ports and sailors would seem to make it a natural site for a Starry Church parish, but the Ironborn are so very hostile to outside culture and religion, I can't see the Starry Church being able to operate openly. Furthermore, Lordsport would be the natural location, but Theon doesn't mention it when he surveys the place upon his return.

      @@maqsoodhassan8978 It's not completely unreasonable. There are a scant few hints that indicate the Ironborn have a seperate lineage and origin than the other ethnicities of Westeros, and much like the Daynes and Hightowers it is possible that they crossed from the West, rather than the East, which would make their point of origin the Great Empire of the Dawn, where the Starry Church's roots lay.

    Since this live stream I've been thinking... do you think there's a link between the Starry Sept in Oldtown and the Cult of Starry Wisdom? The Starry Sept has black marble walls, it's founded by the Hightowers who are named after a hightower building built on the Black Fortress. What's interesting about the Starry Sept is that it's built close to the Honeywine, which would fit with the CoSW being a cult still active in and around ports.

    For some reason when you were describing the black candles , one green three black . The colors coupled with glass candles not having working in over hundred years. It made me think on if there is any correlation between The Blacks and The Greens the two factions during The Dance of the Dragons . Which makes me think the color is like the channel of communication or frequency the user is on. Like all green candle CB radios are running on channel 9 blacks are running on channel two hopefully that makes sense as to what I'm trying to say. What do you think coincidence that the candles are black and green and the dance factions were call blacks and greens supposedly because of outfits they wore at a tourney. I could see if Rhaynera always wore green and it's her personal color. No it's because of an outfit at a tourney.

    As some of you already talked about Melisandre, and just my joking "pants related" question was answered: afaik the most important spiritual characters we have are Quaithe and Melisandre. Melisandre is with Selyse at the wall as we left. She may end up with Jon revived, just like in the show. And Quaithe is only with Dany in her dreams, so her position is unknown. But she may end up with her. So will we see them clash and lead their protagonists in different directions, or will they work together? One could also think a lot about their different interpretations of what they see in the flames. Let's discuss!

    Stars seem like a good avatar for ice and fire, from our perspective with modern science at least being that they're incredibly hot infernos of fusion and simultaneously dwell in a frozen void. Not that the any body would know that about stars with their knowledge, but stars are very much part ice and fire.

      There seem to have been skeletal remains of dragons found a bit all over the place, even in Westeros pre-Seven Kingdoms. As for one by Qarth, it could be simply one left over from the days of the Freehold. But GRRM bringing attention to it, specifically in relation to Qarth might be a hint of something.

    RE: Varys' balls... The worship of Nyarlathotep practiced by Lovecraft's COSW requires "horrible sacrifice." An argument can be made that somebody's balls would qualify as such a "horrible sacrifice." Additionally, the Trapezohedron is said to be a way to "glimpse the mind of Yog-Sothoth." Yog-Sothoth-referred to as "the key and guardian of the gate" and of whom it is said "Yog Sothoth knows the gate, Yog Sothoth is the gate"- is recognized by occultists in our world as a fictional metaphor for the liminal Goddess Babalon (Babylon, or Bab-Ili meaning "gate of the Gods") who in turn is supposed to be an avatar of several dark goddesses from various locales across the planet. It should be said that it was not uncommon for followers of these goddesses (Astarte, Ashera, Cybele, etc.) to sacrifice their genitalia to these goddesses. Varys' balls could easily have been a sacrifice to whatever "Dark God" JRRM has in mind.

    I always thought Stygia, with it's Heart of Darkness was the throne city of the Great Empire of the Dawn. Think of Albany, New York being the capitol of New York state, but NYC is the largest and most influential city.
    If the Bloodstone is in Stygia and it holds the Great Other, that could be why even Shadowbinders do not enter the city.

      Ashai comes from indo- Iranian -"Asha",which btw,the Rhllor/Vs GO Dualism is confirmed to be inspired from-Zoroastrianisn and to a point Manicheasm.so asshai should be somewhere along the lines of "City of the Dawn".No doubt asshai was the Capital of the GEOTD.
      Also,do you think Azor Ahai welding light Binger/Morning star/Dawn=Could either literally mean the Sword dawn (or atleast the original dawn,which could be any weapon with that symbolism really)or does Dawn Represent the more natural "new day" i.e a "saviour of light" who comes to deliver the people from the darkness? Eg. If Dany Comes to Save the 7 kingdoms from the Horrors of war(Night) then she literally Symbolises the "savior dawn"/and the "Saviour dawn" Could very easily turn into,or already be seen as "the Consuming Night".Such a thin line between hero and villain

    What do you think about the theory that dragon binder actually binds humans to your will and not dragons? The logic behind it makes sense, for one how would the dragon binder horn work with dragons? Dragons form a bond with one rider at a time, and there’s never a mention of a horn being used by the Targaryen’s to control their dragons. The second thing is that during the kingsmoot it really did seem like dragon binder had an effect on the people there, and maybe that’s why they were so enthusiastic about Euron’s plans, but changed their minds later on.

    • @DavidLightbringer
      @DavidLightbringer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean it’s no more likely that the horn controls humans than dragons - either is magic. Either could be true also; I don’t have strong feelings either way about the idea it affected the people at the moot. It might do that, but that’s not it’s main use

I just wonder how she earned her freedom and made it to Asshai. It doesn't seem like they'd want one of their own wondering the world. We don't meet any others from Asshai that I recall. I think Euron could end up being a “Stalin” like character as in he is evil everyone knows he is evil but he did help defeat Hitler lol.... I like your idea that COSW is manipulating Euron and Danny into meeting that could be the catalyst to Euron “helping” Danny defeat the others as in “no one controls me I’ll do what I want”. I think if Euron does help defeat the others he most likely won’t die by the end of the story kind of like Stalin after WW2 living for another 10 years.
