    I've done mine today in my 1.8 and had been reading up on this procedure for awhile. Firstly I removed the near side wheel which helped with access a lot, fortunately the previous owner(s) didn't care about the undertray so I only needed to take off a few clips then pull it over the brake/suspension tower. I filled via the top of the engine, need to remove the battery and the airbox; access is a bit tight but it's possible once you actually locate the correct bolt as there's a few that look similar in there. I made a cardboard funnel and managed to collect the oil in a pan. Got new bolts and washers for both the bottom drain bolt and the top bolt, obviously the middle filler bolt was left untouched. I even measured what came out and I put in 1.6l as per the owners handbook, although some places suggest 1.4l is enough. The oil itself came out as muddy brown with bits in it, a quick drive vindicated my change as 2nd gear stopped crunching and all the others shift far easier too.

    this video really helped me to get mine done but I would recommend removing the passenger front wheel in order to gain better access to the fill and drain hole especially if your jack does not really go up high ( this method also limits your time under the car as you can work from the side, becareful with jacks as mine slipped even with a back up jack to help level the car on the other side - dnt get under straight away, wait to see if your car is stable first ) Lastly, the fluid really stinks and oil is going to spill on your driveway so put newspaper / plastic whatever underneath first ) hope my mistakes will help you get this job done right.

    I did mine for 60 pounds to a local service. I brought my own genuine Honda MTF-3. I can feel an improvement especially when shifting gears, after pressing the clutch, changing gear, and hitting the gas pedal. That's where you feeel the difference. Car drives smoother, it shifts up and down easier and smoother.
    Can't feel anything different in the gear stick movement though. That is the same it was before.
    Still, I recommend everyone doing it. It's not expensive and it makes the gearbox's life a lot longer!

    Youve done it the hard way mate 😂 you need to remove the passenger wheel when jacked up and then you get fulk access when the undertray is clipped off :) good effort though bud!

    My FN has been off the road for three years sitting in my driveway, the rear axle broke and at the time the only decent one I could source was crazy money until recently where I picked up a new one for less that £200, so the gearbox and a full engine service will be carried out over the new few weeks. This video will help me immensely.

    I have an FN2 type R myself and like yourself, I am very fussy on maintenance. A good thing to do also which I did this week is put it up on a hoist and grease all the joints. Any rubber bushings, the shock absorber joints. Also, spray silicone onto any rubber boots to keep them soft and prevent cracks. But you'll need the use of a lift/hoist to do this.

    Really good Video, I had a Honda Ballade S04 Chassis in South Africa, and also had the "3rd gear grind" issue when trying to put it in 3rd sometimes wouldn't go in then grind. So we changed the gearbox oil we used about 75% Castrol 80W-90 and about 25% ATF and the problem totally dissapeared. never had an issue selecting 3rd gear again even if i tried on purpose. Keep these videos up they really good! You earned a subscriber

    Done this to mine with the same Honda stuff at the recommended interval on the service schedule (75k miles or 8 years). It definitely helps & makes a difference.
    I'll do mine more regularly than the book says, probably half the recommended time as it does wear off, but it's still better & lasts a good while in my experience.
    Plus as this video shows it's easy to do & the fluid is pretty cheap. I'd recommend putting a magnetic plug in next time to catch them metal particles floating around the gearbox.
    Good video 👍

    On my 1.8 I adjusted the clutch travel, its very hard to get at but theres an adjustment nut above the clutch pedal inside the car. A lock nut and then you rotate the threaded shaft that actuates the clucth. Basically I moved the bite point so the clutch disenages fully and theres less chance of the clutch being slightly engaged which causes hard changes.

    • @FNLEW

    Hey man, I'm actually in the market for a car and kinda undecided between the FN1 Type S and the FN2 Type R. How much is a full tank of petrol on the CTR and how many miles do you get? Bearing in mind that the car will be my daily driver and running costs is a bit of an issue.

    • @FNLEW
      @FNLEW  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      But I tested the Type R and that VTEC rawr is addictive, haha. I'm just trying to gauge a rough estimation of how much I'll be spending on fuel, hence why I asked how much you usually get out on a full tank and how much it costs for a full tank.
