  • New England is one of the best places in the United State, if not the whole world, to see fall colors. A New England fall colors road trip is an easy bucket list item for many people, including my dad and I, so we decided to spend some time exploring the area in 2022. It was an amazing experience and some of the most beautiful views I have ever seen. Here is how we spent 3 days in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and New Hampshire. Let me know what your favorite spot is in the comments.

I've been to 40 US states and the first time I went to Vermont I was so amazed at how beautiful it was. It's still my favorite state. I remember just driving along not even knowing where to go and came up over a hill to this place called Lake Willoughby. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing and it was in Vermont!

I appreciate that what you said about the tour buses. Having one single vehicle of tourists instead of like, 30 individual cars clogging up the roads is ideal in my opinion. Especially for those who can't afford a car/driving or are disabled, it gives them an opportunity to go on a trip like this. Amazing video as always!!!

Lived in New England almost 30 years.. and have hiked a dozen of the 4k footers up in NH multiple times over the years. If I got bored on a weekend, I would just drive up to the Kanc and overnight in north Conway. The Cape -- aka Cape Cod -- was my second choice. Great memories! Will probably make my way back there someday and play out my innings.

I have been to all those places numerous times, and it never gets old. Each fall we do what we call the loop. We live on the south coast of Massachusetts, and we travel west through Rhode Island and Connecticut then up north through the Berkshires to Vermont and then east through New Hampshire and Maine. The Rockwell Museum is a must stop, one of my favorite places anywhere. We head back from Arcadia down east along the coast through Boston and then back home. For the most part we travel back roads taking our time. Since I retired, we have travelled all over this country, but I must admit fall in New England is the best. Thanks for posting.

I enjoyed yet another of your Roadtrip with Pops videos. We followed most of this route a couple of weeks ahead of you in our RV. Fall colors were just starting when we arrived at the end of Sept. We missed the Flume hike that looked incredible. I am a covered bridge guy too and really enjoyed the Covered Bridge Gift Shoppe that is actually ON the bridge. Stayed at NFS campground across the street from the Albany covered bridge. You didn’t miss much on the Ben & Jerry’s tour. You can’t take photos anyway. Stayed in the Berkshires, but not a Norman Rockwell fan. Did the Alice’s Restaurant Massacree pilgrimage in Stockbridge and nearby Great Barrington instead (Norman Rockwell’s studio was upstairs from Alice’s restaurant). Did a tour of the Trappe family lodge that included a welcome by a Trappe family member. Did the Cog railway too commemorating 50 years since I climbed Mt. Washington in 1972 while my family drove up and met me at the top. Picking the last trip of the day for the sunset was a good choice.

Next visit, I suggest the longest covered bridge in the U.S. It was the longest in the world, for years.
It's a western NH covered bridge called the Cornish-Windsor Bridge connecting Vermont.
Also, near St. Gaudens National Park. It was the home of a famous sculptor. Lincoln sculpture, etc.

1998 a friend and I flew to Portland, Maine, and rode our bicycles back to Western Washington, sea to sea. Unfortunately we had a disagreement our first night in Maine and I took off the next day by myself. Because I wasn’t in shape yet the Kanc almost killed me. Started in Conway and coasted into Lincoln. At one point I crawled off the side of the road and lay in the bushes while the flies and insects had their way with me. My friend had the bug spray. The next day she caught up with me west of Lincoln and we continued our trip. It took us two months and we rode 3600 miles. By the way I was a 58-year-old great grandmother.

I loved watching your video adventures there in New England. I am native Southern Californian girl but lived in New Hampshire for 10.5 years, I would like to give you and anyone else some suggestions if you visit New England again for Fall Foliage. First I will say New Hampshire has the most gorgeous Fall Foliage sights, though everyone always says Vermont. I suggest the southern drive across both states. For Vermont drive route 7 that you start on from eastern NY turns into art 9 as you drive east over the Green Mountains. You will drive through historical towns like Hoosick, NY Bennington and Wilmington, VT and over Hogback Mountain! That is one beautiful drive! Then you take Rt 9 and continue on into New Hampshire. Visiting Keene, NH is a must! Now to me the drive from Keene on Rt 9 all the way to Hillsboro,NH is one of THE MOST breathtaking views of Fall Color! Then drive south on the 202 and it will take you to beautiful small towns like Antrim (where I lived), Bennington, and Peterborough,NH. And since you love hiking try hiking Mount Monadnock! Just a suggestion

Its very beautiful, and thanks for sharing. I love anything like this, especially nature in all its hues. Pretty spectacular coloures..if I were there I would need more than 2hours for sure, and if I were an artist 🎨 I would paint it to canvas, but I'm not, so would be sure to take photos and see whilst there if some poetic words sprang to mind..if not then I would diary it! Luckily there are tons of beauty spots back here, and I have written poetry about, but have to be in a specific and nostalgic mood/mind frame to do so! What I love about antiquity as in Historical places is capturing how the ancients saw such places and getting the energetic vibe of such places..this is why I guess I love historic sites.
One American place I love in particular is Salem Massachusites and for a specific reason!

I'm sure someone has already mentioned it, but when I visited in Mid-October 2018, Hwy 113 had the best fall colors for me as the 2 lane road had trees where the limbs extended over the road from both sides, enclosing you in extremely bright reds, oranges, and yellows.

I love your channel! I live in NY's Hudson River Valley, which you saw a bit of when you stopped in Sleepy Hollow. You may enjoy a fall foliage trip here in the future. I think a road trip of upstate NY would be fun. People hear NY they automatically think NYC. There is so much more to NY than NYC. The Hudson Valley, the Adirondacks, the Finger Lakes,, Niagara Falls.. I've been to the Norman Rockwell Museum and I'm about 2 hour from VT so I will have to check some of these places out! I love that you travel with you dad. Makes me want to take another road trip with my dad! Whenever I want to take a trip somewhere, I just have to watch one of your great videos! I share about your channel and videos on Facebook. I look forward to supporting your channel in the future. I was watching Rt 66 videos when I stumbled upon your Rt 66 trip.

Picturesque picture book settings , stunning slopes of vibrantly colorful grandeur , beautiful trails and gorgeous flowing cascades and a profusion of gaily colored leaf bedecked carpeting ... ...The showstopper was the Cog Railway as it made its way up the gradient and the descent with the captivating sunset view..History and Nature interwoven beautifully.....Beautiful viewing...

My wife and I appreciate the interesting content of your road trips. I had to chime in on this New England jaunt because I was born and raised in Berkshire County, Mass. Your stops at the Sheffield covered bridge, Taft Farms, Stockbridge , and the Norman Rockwell Museum were almost as good as a visit home to me. Thanks, and continued success to you and "Pop".

Enjoyed the video so much. Glad you and your dad had each other for the adventure! Always wanted to see New England and in my mid 70’s, this is an awesome way to see it. (Not able to get around well now) I am now a new subscriber to your channel. ❤️

Great video! I agree that staying in Lincoln is a great option, but I would also recommend considering the Mount Washington Valley, which includes the towns of Conway, Bartlett, and Jackson, New Hampshire. From there, you can easily access the Kancamagus Highway (Kanc) via Bear Notch Road in Bartlett, as well as Crawford Notch, which is near the Cog Railway. Pinkham Notch is also a short drive away and offers spectacular views and access to Mount Washington trailheads and the auto road for those who want to drive up to the summit. Additionally, there are many more lodging and dining options in the Valley, which can make it feel less crowded during busy seasons and won't need to eat Macdonald's twice in one day!

We drove the Mt. Washington road last summer. Hands down the most terrifying drive of my life. It was extremely foggy, maybe 50 ft of visibility most of the way up after 3,500 ft. We were scared, but what an experience.

who knew sleepy hollow tour is a thing hahaha. That tower on top of the mountain looks pretty cool. Nice lodge too, the color looks amazing on that drive. Have only done the fall color of CA but definitely not as concentrated. Haven't finished watching the whole thing yet, but hahaha shipping two gallons of maple syrup sounds like a pancake party.

Thanks for your great video series. We live in Connecticut and I see most of the places in this video and are glad that you and your dad are enjoying it as much as we do. You might want to do Cape Cod sometime because there is quite a bit of sailing and fishing history. Thanks again and be safe

While upstate NY is beautiful....NY is not a part of New England. Just the six states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island make up the New England states.
Nice that you and your dad can enjoy time together traveling around the USA. Safe travels.....

It's fabulous that you are adventuring with your Dad. My Mom was my favorite travel companion. A road trip is the best time to explore your father's childhood memories and store them in your brain for posterity. Ask him about his first dog, best friend ets.
