  • How to diagnose a noise in engine area on a 2007 Honda CRV.
The motor in my 2007 Honda CRV sounded like it was knocking last year but it was the AC clutch. Now my motor is making a different noise and this will show how I fixed it by replacing the tensioner. If you’re experiencing noises with your Honda CRV, this might help you diagnose the problems.

I have all of those noises 😂 I think I have the same knocking noise from the engine. I have to check the clutch on the AC compressor.

My most recent noise that drove me nuts for 2 months was a rattling every time I hit a bump. I changed both front struts thinking it was that but it ended up being a bad sway bar link.

@JeremiahMcintosh I had a similar issue, but in my case, it was loose.

You can spend $40 every 20k for things like that AC clutch or $230 every 200k for an OEM Honda part. If it's easy to replace and can't cause a catastrophic failure then maybe. But when it's a pain to install then OEM is my go to. Typically electric and electronic parts I only use OEM.

I installed a $35 ac clutch on my 08 crv 2 years later the bearings went out and broke the front off the compressor. Should’ve spent the $$$ on the clutch the first time

Just hit 170,000 miles and never any major problems yet other than ac clutch, starter, alternator, and this tensioner. Did have to change one brake caliper and a brake cable also.
Never changed transmission fluid and it has been perfect….knock on wood lol.
