Some notes for southwest area campers. If you're spring camping in states such as New Mexico or Utah, 40-50 mph winds can and do happen. Obviously put your tent in the best sheltered area as possible and use all those guylines and staking points. Also for the same area and season, being able to "button up" a tent is worth it's weight in gold. Coming back from a long day to have everything in your tent covered in dust is a downer. Yes, it does make your tent hotter, but a dust/sand free home is worth it.

I’m sure u know but for any others, guy lines are worthless if you don’t secure them to the polls with the straps on the inside of the fly.

FYI - you can easily store the door inside the tent in the top netted storage areas on either side of the door.

You have such great information and shots of the tent. Loved seeing the shots with the mats inside and the bonus with a queen and exped, gives me a good idea of the tent space. I’m looking for something to fit a double pad (50”wide) and a little table and chairs for when we get rained out. Plus our gear!
One suggestion that I also got when I took speech class in college is to try and minimize movements. I’ve shift around a lot and the professor pointed out that it’s distracting to viewers. Same for extraneous hand movements, try being purposeful with them. Hope I don’t come off as mean and obviously ignore my suggestions if ya don’t care. They were unsolicited! But imma go watch your other family tent videos! Great work.

Thanks for all of the information! I just purchased this tent (may 2024) based on your review (along with a few others 😂). I was disappointed with the zippers on mine. They are NOT the YKK zippers and the doors are a little frustrating to use. They also added pockets at the ceiling to tuck the doors into when fully open. They also added vents on all 4 "corners " of the ceiling, however. They did away with the option to open and close from inside. I had it set up for a week in my back yard next to a lake, spent 2 nights in it also. It preformed exactly how you explained it would. Over all, we are pleased with it. Just bummed out about the zippers, it is actually one of the reasons I pulled the trugger on this tent. I would have easly paid a few bucks more for the tent if REI would have stayed with the YKK brand.

I just got one and they made lots of changes. The main polls now just dead end in the sleeve. They have a pocket for the door. They also give u six guy lines.

Hi! Love your videos! Would love to see more videos about your camping knowledge instead of tent reviews! Some ideas for future videos; More camp recipes, how to pick camping site, beginner mistakes while camping, more camping essentials, car camping, more camp activities, camping for first timers, how to clean grill etc. Looking forward for future videos.

Do you have any experience with the Coleman PEAK1 6 person tent?
I am very torn between either the REI Base Camp 6 and the Coleman PEAK1.
    Any advice on my purchase?

shouldn't be an issue. I just bought this as well, and will be trying it Thursday, but I previously had the REI Camp Dome 4, which is a very similar, but cheaper version of the Base Camp series. My only complaint with that tent was wind resistance, as the poles bent on the first night out, which is why I'm guessing the Base Camp series has 4 poles instead of just 2, but the full coverage rain fly is great. biggest reason I decided to upgrade was the additional headroom of a 6 person tent.

    This was a great review.
I'd also enjoy seeing a review of the Nemo Aurora Highrise tent if you get around to it. I'm not seeing much in the way of 3rd party reviews/info on TH-cam for it yet.

Have you rated Tents like the Gazelle Hub or the Kazoo Pop up? Would love to hear them.
I am 75 yrs. and am looking for the simplicity since I am not as 'flexible' as a younger person.

Hi Herbert - No, I haven’t gotten to those tents yet. However, I’ve been asked about the Gazelle Hub a few times so I’d like to do a video on that tent in the future.

Hey. Great video. I plan using this tent for car camping, and I've never had anything larger than a 4 person. Do you think this tent would fit in a state campground tent area? Some campgrounds have a limited spot to pitch a tent, and I noticed how long your tent is front to back with vestibules.

    • @littlecampfires
      @littlecampfires 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Great question - I’m afraid it depends
on the particular state park. I’m sure it would fit at some sites, but definitely not at others. For example, I recently filmed a “How to Camp” video at a state park, and I don’t think this tent would have fit that particular site. However, that’s just one example. Sorry that this isn’t super conclusive, but you could always give it a shot and if it doesn’t work out, REI has a pretty generous return policy. That’s my 2 cents. Hope it helps!

I think REI is sold out at the moment, probably because they were running a big sale last week. I’m not sure if they’ve discontinued it, I suppose that’s possible, but I think the reason it’s not showing up online is because they’re sold out. Hope that helps!
