I was watching this from Japan and my name is actually Suzuki, LOL. Ermonela’s singing Cho-Cho-San impressed me a lot. Her love, purity, determination, hope and despair were so real and clear in the performance. It's Amazing. I also liked the folding screens on the stage, it was very beautiful.
This is certainly not a production and staging without problems but I like the nod to the ancient Japanese theatrical traditions and let's face it Butterfly rises or falls depending on whoever is in the role, and Ermonela Jaho is nothing short of miraculous here. Brava! I have had the privilege of seeing her live several times in various roles, she is never short of superb but here, particularly in the last scene, she is phenomenal, utterly heartbreaking of course but the anguish superbly portrayed.. Given the shortcomings of the production that is no mean feat! Actually all the performances in the last scene are excellent. I tnink some of the comments on Adam Smiith are a bit harsh, he is a young up and coming tenor of great promise, particularly giving a good account of himself in his aria of remorse, at the last. He is a high tenor so the fuller richer tones will develop (should anyway).
This is the best Madama Buttefly I have ever experienced. Jaho's singing and acting was incredible! Fujimura's singing was also impresive. The way this orchestra played was very vivid and lively. Forcing Caucasians to wear Japanese hairstyles, though it is commonly used in this opera, is very unnatural. This production is also commendable in that it avoids that folly.
@@Altonahh10Yes, sorry. But still, this is so refined art… if we had to be objective, I really don’t think that there is something as moving as this which was composed after this period.
As beautiful as this opera is, the direction of the videography and production should have been so much better!! Butterfly's entrance is paramount!!! Why would anyone focus the camera on anything or anyone else, especially during the climax of her first aria? Even if they panned and included other characters and the set, she should have definitely been the primary focus. This is NOT rocket science. Additionally, it is bad enough that they have such a minimalistic set and have taken the opera out of the original time period of the wonderful era of the early 20th century, 1904 to be exact; but then they added unnecessary non-existent masked and unmasked "characters" and men in black (which distracted more than added to the opera), and even worse they added a doll to be the son,....... and with all of the talented young actors in the world. WHY???!!! Hopefully, they will make better creative choices in the future!
Very good singing and very good orchestra directing….not the art direction. Incredibily absurd without any reason to be like that….if allowed I would have said a lot of insult at this way to present an opera…buuuuuuu
It doesn’t make any sense without a real child. Toy is ridiculous and dead . No emotions . We are doing Butterfly with real child ( my son) and it’s very powerful.

Jaho shows us how to sing piani and decrescendi, something Smith has never heard of.
Thank you for saying that1
Thank you for this excellent production,

Meravigliosa ❤
Adam Smith is amazing; one of the best tenors working today. He's perfect for Pinkerton.
I disagree.

STUPENDA ERMONELA JAHO

Rustioni assolutamente inascoltabile!!

Ermonela magnífica.Ella es muy intensa.Lo vive.
That first act alone is better than anything composed after 1950.
And I truly mean it… although I love some soundtracks composed during our time.
This is a matter of personal taste. And I disagree to that sentiment.

A magnificent production. Thank you very much !
......and finally a (children's) puppet! 💐💐💐💐💐
OMG - Sharpless is absolutely appalling.
Fantastico e molto dramatico
Jaho really loses herself in this role.
Why was Goro played by a Caucasian singer? Who was the character sitting stage right during the first act? G. Puccini?
You do notice that Jaho is also Caucasian, right? And who cares anyway?
Why is the set design so horrible anymore?
As beautiful as this opera is, the direction of the videography and production should have been so much better!!

What about if the "Presenter" learned how to pronounce in English?
His piani are horrible and I don´t think he is singing the right roles at all.

Ok
Set design and costume design seem to be irrelevant in opera these days.

Couldn't they find an Asian woman to sing Butterfly?
Absurd comment.
In this case we allow Asian women to only play in Butterfly, Nixon in China and Turandot?
@@simonp3659 why not? i wouldn't want to see an Asian Pinkerton
