In a time when companies need, perhaps more than ever, to be budget conscious, Opéra de Lille show, that by concentrating on the performance and performers rather than extravagant sets and costumes, it can be possible to have an entirely satisfying and enjoyable production, perhaps depending on the work. Consequently, here we have a production with a great cast (under great direction, dramatically and musically) to satisfy most viewers - and let me know if there has ever been a production of an opera or operetta, that satisfies all viewers - without costing a small fortune. Congratulations to all, and, thank you.
This is a great production. The sets were excellent, and showed how a minimalist and stylized look can enhance and not diminish the action. And I doubt whether this approach was much cheaper than a traditional period set, since much technical ingenuity was involved.
idk about you. everytime i hear dr blind's list at 19:19, i have to giggle. one of best musical jokes in opera. plus i like this french translation. i want to see a traditional french fledermaus
Fledermaus is a refreshing drink of champagne, and Opéra de Lille offers an engaging adaptation, moulding it adroitly around French. Some subtle and not so subtle differences from Deutsch.
Excellent voices. I am particularly pleased to hear a full voiced Adele as opposed to the usual canaries. I did not miss the sets. This is far better than pornographic efforts we are being subjected to on a regular basis. I am however, a bit weary of Camille Schnoor's repeated genuflexion. If it is just a mannerism, she uses it excessively. if, however, she requires it to assist with voice production or projection, it may indicate problems with technique.
And don't forget Italian! At least two different productions of "Il Pipistrello" from Ferrara and Bologna have popped up on TH-cam in the last few years.
All of the cast and orchestra performed superbly but were let down by the lack of scenery! Also the lighting in parts was poor leaving areas of active stage in shadow, the follow spots could have helped out.

La mise en scène est décevante, il eciste une autre version en français bien meilleure de ce point de vue.
