A good season these days could be considered 150,000 to 200,000 lbs per season, and that’s with four guys, a diesel engine, hydraulics, gps, radar, etc, etc. Of course now we have more restricted fishing windows, but I’m not saying that’s an advantage. I’m in awe of what these guys did.
My family had a beautifully restored one that we sailed the San Juans in Washington every summer. A beauty but a challenge to sail. Her name was the Wooden Shoe.
YMCA Camp Orkila on Orcas Is. had several Bristol Bay sailboats donated to the camp. I was there in the summer in 1960 and 1961 and we would caulk the planks when they were upside down on the beach by using white paint and cotton. Then they were put out to moorage just offshore. I learned to sail these gaff-rigged boats. We'd take a cabin of boys over to nearby islands and camp overnight on the beach. Unforgettable.
These men were once called, The Iron Men in wooden boats. NOW ITS…..WOODEN MEN IN IRON BOATS. These were the times when men were straight up men. There was no confusion, there was no misunderstanding…..MEN. The good old days.
Hey guys, I've got one in fair can condition. I'm not going to be able to restore her. She was floating from me in 2019 when she was impounded. I got her after that.

I would be willing to let it go for a song to a serious wooden boat guy.
