  • Get an alignment after installing your suspension!
    Old Man Emu 2-inch lift with heavy-duty springs, rear shocks, and medium front shocks.
    It's been a long time coming. Finally, the time to upgrade the suspension to a conservative 2-inch lift has come.
    This upgrade aims to help the vehicle carry a heavier load and easily drive through corners, especially on cross-country trips.

    Coil Springs 2885
    Coil Spring 2896
    Front Nitrocharger Sport Strut 90010
    Rear Nitrocharger Sport 60081
    Tools used:
    4x PowerBuilt jacks, 2x Jack stands, 1x stock bottle jack.
    1x Torque wrench
    1x rachet
    1x step down
    1x 16inch pry bar
    1x breaker bar
    1EA 22mm, 21mm, 19mm, 17mm, 14mm, and 12mm sockets and wrenches.
    Mobil 1 grease for the bushing on the rear shock eyelet.
    I am not a professional vehicle mechanic. This is my first time installing a suspension system. If your vehicle is not fully paid, adding modifications might affect your warranty. Ours is fully paid and still under warranty. But, I chose to do everything myself and get to know the most valuable tool better when we are out in remote locations. Your situation might be different. Follow along with this installation at your own risk, and once you are done, don't forget to sit back, admire your work, and get your vehicle aligned!

    I love the quick warning about not touching the center nut on struts. I was a parts guy for years and you have no idea how many people will take them off without a spring compressor and almost lose an eye. Great advice in this video, especially about proper torquing. Awesome job, clean set up. :)

    This was a great video because I think I have a failed bearing at the top of my front strut in the right side and I really want to do it myself because it's so expensive, I'm a mechanical person just with HVAC, I can fix stuff bigger than a tractor trailer but don't usually work on my car . How’s this kit? You like how it is? I’m probably gonna get a 3in lift kit I’m excited,do you think I have to get after market control arms if I go that high? Is the 2in good?

    • @maxdexpeditions
      @maxdexpeditions  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The kit is good for our light to moderate off-roading needs. I like it, and it doesn't break the bank. You'll probably have problems passing alignment with a 3-inch lift without aftermarket UCA. But I have known a few who rock their OEM uca offroad for 30k miles up with no issues.

  • @chadw.6049
    @chadw.6049 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    How are you liking the ride? Did you stay with stock size 265 tires or move to 285s?
    Did you keep stock UCAs?

    • @maxdexpeditions
      @maxdexpeditions  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I like it. The ride is firm. It depends on your usage and personal preference. It rides great with my drawers and all the weight, but now that I'm driving it empty, I feel every bump. I kept the stock 265, and I'm still rocking the stock UCA. I don't think you need to upgrade those for a 2-inch lift, although it will help with the ride quality and alignment. If I do it again, I want to try the Dobinsons IMS for a few dollars more. These rust quickly if you use them on trails.

    • @chadw.6049
      @chadw.6049 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Maybe if switched to 895 rear springs and 60080 shocks would not be as harsh?
      You mean you found the OME shocks to show signs of rust? If get I was considering spraying them with corrosion free or fluid film.

    • @maxdexpeditions
      @maxdexpeditions  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@chadw.6049 You can check the site “mudify.com” for their weight rating suggestions. I got the heavy ones all around, but it was a smooth ride with my 200lb drawer, roof rack, tent, and all the gears we carry. Now we moved places, and I left all my equipment, so the heavy-duty springs feel super stiff with the stock weight, but I like it that way. Your preference might be different.
      I think the rocks on all the washboards we’ve been through chipped the powder coat plus the mud caused the rusts. I apply fluid film now yearly.

    • @chadw.6049
      @chadw.6049 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If I get the OME shocks I’m considering the rock guard protectors they sell.
