The greatest man ever!! I miss him everyday. He was so kind to me. He helped me when I felt like I didn't have a reason to carry on He befriended me and his sweet beautiful wife Lori were so good to me. I can't say enough wonderful things about him. He changed my life for the better and I miss him everyday of my life.

If I remember correctly, it was on @ 8 pm (here in Jersey) on WWOR-TV, Channel 9, Saturday night! Dad wasn't one for sports, but POLITICS; now THAT was his "cup of tea". The way I refuse to miss my NY GIANTS on Sundays, was essentially the same way my dad felt about missing The Morton Downey Jr. Show!!....Ahhhhh memories!!

I was eighteen when this aired. From New Jersey, still live there. The show aired at 10:00 pm eastern weeknights on Superstation WWOR Channel 9 out of Secaucus. First summer job out of high school I worked part time evenings for a market research firm. Got out at 10, told supervisor that I was going home to watch Morton Downey. She said that if she had known that she would have had me stay another hour. Lol RIP Mort
Actually in his book he made it a point to say (from his pov) he wasn't a liberal or conservative. Another interesting tidbit from his book: he predicted we would eventually elect someone who won the electoral college but lost the popular vote.....and said we should scrap the EC.

The sad reality is the left and right in politics is controlled by the people so affluent that they're the ones pulling the strings and decide events long before they happen. This show was entertaining show for the time. I think it would be interesting if he were still broadcasting today. He'd really have some fodder to mouth off about.

I don't really see him completely as being uptight. I think he tests other guys to see if they have the balls to stand up to him. I don't think Mort is mean just for the sake of meanness always. When they do, I see that he respects them.
Morton may disagree on things, but he's not an uptight asshole that's he's downright dismissive (although it may appear that way). The only thing he hates are cowards and the lowest of the people. But he's not someone who belittles someone for being liberal automatically.
BTW, I don't mean fists. And everyone who punched him sucker punched him. I know in a real fight Morton is tough. He looked like the type who lifted weights in the gym. But he didn't need his fists. His words, facts and the truth were all he need to make his opponents look stupid. You don't need violence to defeat your opponent.
