Thank you Tom this is the first one I have missed in more than 20 years thanks for putting it out so fast. Do we know where Greg Broshus HIGH AND WILD IS? It's been 2 years did he die where's theCAR? My kids love him Jeff would know...... Thank for all you do theses vids are historic. VICTORYREDCOLORODO
@@TURKEYMAN60185 Yeah I'm not sure where High and Wild is, my son was just asking me about that car on Sunday. He said that was one of his favorites as well.
If you are talking about the camaro early in the video. I think that one is placed pretty high for a wheelie bar and probably was placed to prevent damaging the bumper or exhaust. Not sure though as I have never done a wheelie myself
@shaynegadsden you have to hit a certain angle in order to be able to feather the throttle and stay up. He couldn't do that due to his wheelie bar being too low/being there at all.
In Australia back in the eighties we used to have wheel standers, the cars had plexi glass windows in the floor pans and steered using left and right rear brake levers...They aren't around any more...good to see the usa still does it.
I remember watching that as a kid. At Oran park drags and other places my dad would take me. I remember they had American cars come over too. The knottsberry farm truck I remember. And the plexi glass Perkins pacer. My father explained how they look thru the floor and steer with rear brake levers. This was around 1984
I actually saw Milner in person at a World of Wheels car show. He was selling autographed pictures or something, but just looking at him I could tell he had nothing to do with the Hollywood or acting life, just a regular guy that lucked into a hit movie. ha ha
@@tomeighty- Paul La Mat actually is an actor by profession. Graffiti was his break out role in which he won a Golden Globe award for new star of the year. He was nominated again in 1980 for his role in the film Melvin and Howard and was again nominated, and won his second Golden Glove award for his role in The Burning Bed. alongside Farrah Fawcett. His last film appearance was in 2009. I have heard others say what a down to earth guy he is. Not all actors live the Hollywood life. I watch a lot of back track no prep and a lot of outlaw tracks and this brings me bk to my childhood when the wheelies were best part of a race. And thirty some years later they still are
is there a rule about wheelie bar configuration? like, could you put some sort of suspinsion or spring on a bar so that it stays in the wheelie and doesnt bounce back after hitting?
Thanks Phil and thanks for all your help. It's pretty cool to see how serious you, Chris and Cheryl take all the racing stuff. You all have pulled off some amazing feats in the Wheelie World, and in a short amount of time. I'm just glad that I'm able to document your hard work and success.
Thanks Tom. Curious if you have ever been able to look inside the trunk of one these cars to see how much ballast they have back there. Guessing it’s a lot! Hope you are doing well!
Glad you liked the video Dan. I'm friends with a lot of the drivers and have seen the "Secret Sauce" on a few of the cars. But in reality they all can pop a wheelie but some have unique ideas on how to maintain the balance down the long run.
NEED FOR SPEED PROSTREET anyone? 👊🏻 😎 💥 Then there’s Ryan Cooper doing the whole quarter mile wheel standing 6:35 Ryan Cooper? Is that you? Lol amazing
I don't know for sure but I don't think they can have the brake set up like those guys have..I'm pretty sure it has to have a normal brake set up instead of being able to steer with brakes..also they have no bars or actual wheelie bars instead of the pads those guys run on
@GrumpyIan lol..I'm dumb..wasn't sure if it was someone who really didn't know and I wanted to fill them in without being insulting..excellent sarcasm in that case !
For such a "small" place, Byron Dragway sure seems to see a LOT of action!! SO many times, I randomly click on a drag racing vid, and it's here. Too bad I live in crappy NJ... I'd absolutely love to have a place like this near me! I was lucky enough to visit this track, when I was a student at UTI in Carol Stream, IL in 1999. I wanted to run my Trans Am SO DAMN BAD (as my buddy Andy's Mustang was putting down it's quickest times ever, that day), but it was also my daily at the time and I was too scared to break the wimpy ring and pinion setup that GM cursed those 3rd and 4th gens with... Funny, I ended up breaking the pinion about a month later on the street, anyway... I think the damn thing was just so small (it had 4:10s in it) it couldn't handle any kind of power, so I put 3:73s back in it (and hilariously, they've held up to my 375-400hp 350 with a 200 shot and 26x10.5 slicks, and have been sitting in the car to this day in my yard). So, I broke the stock 3:73s and Richmond 4:10s with my 228 rwhp 305 (dyno'd at school) and the Carquest Motive Gear 3:73s have taken WAY more power from a new motor, and are still there. lol
I was there Sunday. Nice show ,,,,but to much time wasted between shows…need mor than two jet cars and I think they should have the Chevy rebellion and the other wheel stander put on a show .they need to take there cue from Great Lakes and Cordova they put on real nice shows …Byron’s close to home wish they had more shows that draw big crowds."
Yes and no. If they set them high enough then once the car gets up high enough it can just “sit” back rather than bouncing off the rear bumper and going back down.

This is what TH-cam is here for as far as I'm concerned! Thanks for taking the time to film, edit, and share.
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
This is the coolest show in drag racing !
The stuff they do in Australia is also pretty awesome.
I was there! Have the license plate from the pinto and signed my name on his hood and more!! What A Great day!!
Joins a wheelie contest with a wheelie bar, you know, the device that prevents wheelies. Some kind of genius there.
If you are talking about the camaro early in the video. I think that one is placed pretty high for a wheelie bar and probably was placed to prevent damaging the bumper or exhaust. Not sure though as I have never done a wheelie myself
They don't prevent them they limit then
Yet in reality you are the "genius"...
I believe they are competing in LONGEST wheelie not highest wheelie

LS George needs to enter this!
I had the whole family there this year. Hadn't been there in about 20 years. Awesome event! Great camera work.
Been waiting for a wheelstand competition all year!
That pt cruiser my fav 😂
Yeah I thought the Skylark had it😮but the CUDA was dialed in ‼️. Great video thanks ✝️🇺🇸

Absolutely amazing, I’ve been waiting for this video!
I was there in 2019. I don't remember anything after the second 12 pack of Coors Light
I love your commentary and excellent filming
The art on that yellow Cuda is impressive!
It was a crazy weekend at byron. Great video as usual Tom 👌

Glad to see team chinto is back out there after 50/50ing the barrier last year
Keep the great stuff coming !
Great video.... thank you 👍👍
Thanks buddy. Can't wait till this year again.
Awesome wheelie video, as usual Tom!!! Keep them coming!!
Thank you so much!
This show had the àbility to create serotonins
Super 💯🎉
Bonus points to the Gremlin for getting more vertical lol
The guy in the Gremlin is the GOAT. He must have a lot of these, I know he’s flipped over several times.
brian ambrosini...nitrous amc stroker small block runs 8s
Having wheelie bars during a wheelie contest😂😂😂
Wheelie bars help keep the rear wheels on the ground, some of these cars got all 4 tires in the air and lost control
@@_Boobz I'm well aware. I used to run bars. Point was in a wheelie comp, bars are a hindrance.
Just need to adjust them to keep from flipping over.
That was cool, I'm crazy how much Two thumbs up thanks
That Chevy luv sure brought back some memories, the luvs and Vegas were the go to for street racing in my days..
I tried with my 10 speed bike and nothing like this! Very kool!!!

I don't care if it only went 350 ft, I love the verticality the gremlin achieves
NItorus AMC small block too..nasty lil 8 second car
Awesome!!!!
Nice fast paced video, very enjoyable to watch
That ‘Cuda was awesome!
Oh yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!👍🍻🏁
That active rear spoiler on the orange Pinto is really cool.
The chevy 2 was impressive power pulling the wheels while hitting the tires
Wow !!!!! Very cool.
George needs to get the blazer out here!
this looks way more scary than a speed contest
NEED FOR SPEED PROSTREET anyone? 👊🏻 😎 💥
Then there’s Ryan Cooper doing the whole quarter mile wheel standing
6:35 Ryan Cooper? Is that you? Lol amazing
I’m in love with the rs/z28
The only "drag" show, I'm interested in.
The Buick is my favorite I own one just like it but it’s a gsx clone
What a ridiculous event. Where can I find one of these?
only in Byron IL
Those guys were lucky Hemi Under Glass, Little Red Wagon, and the Mullet Machine weren't there.
I don't know for sure but I don't think they can have the brake set up like those guys have..I'm pretty sure it has to have a normal brake set up instead of being able to steer with brakes..also they have no bars or actual wheelie bars instead of the pads those guys run on

Didn’t the Hemi Under Glass car get destroyed in the rollover with Jay Leno riding shotgun?
@danmyers9372 yessir... look up Jay Leno goes 2500 hp on 2 wheels and it'll come right up on TH-cam

Where's LS George?
06:33 that’s UnReal pedaling, for Real

LS George loves this
the Baracuda is the best looking car
WOW. THIS IS INSANE.
Is it “to meighty” or “tom eighty”?
Great question. It is Tom Eighty, my last name is pronounced just like 80 or Eighty. Thanks for watching Zack!
please show us some footage from this old guy.
2023 bad fish 2022 purple car chinto is my favorite
All four wheels off should get some bonus feet imo

awesome 😂
The last time I was there was when they were flipping the chevettes over
I wish I would have been there for that. I started going in 2012 and haven't missed a year since then.
pt CRUISER!
my friend set the canadian record for first 1/4 mile wheelie in a dodge. rest in peace. know his name?
Seems the key is to not put it on the back bumper and lift the back wheels off the ground
Some of those cars look like they might actually be worth more than $10k.
there are some legit 8 and 9 sec cars in there
I absolutely hate PT Cruisers which means that green one is my favorite here. Absolutely badass.

Hmmm
Haha
Watching guys try to pull wheelies with wheelie bars installed is comical. If you want to pull a big wheelie, take your wheelie bars off dummy.
Yes and no. If they set them high enough then once the car gets up high enough it can just “sit” back rather than bouncing off the rear bumper and going back down.
Ils sont tous si fat!!!
I don't understand the excitement.
STAND ER" UP & SLAM ER" DOWN 😳😬😝

No, LS George, but build another Fiero, better than the one he rolled.
No wheelybbars very cool
