as a new lance main, could not agree more. Holy this weapon is fun af. i've been sleeping on this weapon for way to long. Once you got guard up and guard 5, you feel invincible and pretty much go toe-to-toe with the monsters
My first game is Rise, which I'm still playing. I started as a SnS main, but the Lance just feels so much more natural to me now. I even beat Amatsu the first time I tried the Lance.
Hello, i'm one of those 1k+ hours ppl. Longsword definitely do be easy mode, even dual blades, but if those are the weapons that make the game fun, no shame in using it That being said, I highly recommend you pick up every weapon for at least a hunt or two. Each weapon gives such a unique feeling that they're all like different games. I say give them all a fair shot Personal recommendations for higher skill floor weapons: Charge Blade, Greatsword, Hunting Horn. These weapons force you to think when you use them and are great if you wanna take on a challenge for yourself and learn the game on a deeper level Weapons that are easy to use and have fun with immediately: Longsword, Dual Blades, Hammer, Sword and Shield, Light Bowgun, Bow. These offer their 'fun value' immediately without needing to really obsess over learning the movesets and mechanics. Easy to understand weapons Welcome to the MH community. Always happy to see newer people coming along enjoying this insane experience for the first time
If you have Iceborn, the SnS is actually broken in LR and most of HR. You can create ammo very easily, and the shotgun burst from piercing pod does over 100 damage on anything, and it combos straight into a Perfect Rush. Even shooting something like Redpits still gets you around 50 damage, and it does KO (even more with stones). Just think about those numbers for a second. In LR, a single redpit shotgun blast does half the damage of a fully powered up LR Greatsword True Charge Slash. And you can pop them off constantly. Make the Hunter set for that slinger ammo boost.
I really just don't understand how people do damage with Bow. I tried it as my first ranged weapon after playing for 500 hours on both Hammer and DB, and could not get it work. Instead, I went Sticky LBG for 500 hours, then moved on to something more complicated, the CB. God I love the CB. For all its weird spinning plate bs, it keeps my attention locked on the game and made me so much better at other weapons. Still after all that time played, picked up the Bow for about 30 hours and still can't do any damage. I swear, I have a hidden debuff that says I can't use the Bow.
sword and shield is very good, but most people say its bad cause its the most slept on weapon in the game and its got a high skill ceiling to master. and its not the long sword. just want any sword and shield speedrun and you see its pretty good
@@ascended8174 The main problem with HH is that it loses it's bonus in endgame. It does more exhaust damage than the hammer, but slightly less KO. Most engame hunts don't even have that feature. The buffs stick around though. The damage increase from what's shown in Wilds has me very excited to see how it lands in that game. Wilds also really added to Lance and GL. I've always used lance, but it hasn't been in my top three used mains since MH3U (where I think it peaked).
There's no bad weapon. All of them have their pros and cons, but what's important is the feel. If they feel great or fun to use, then by all means, go with it. Try them out in the training area
The feel even can change if you learn how to play. I thought gunlance are slow af and clunky until I learnt to quick reload and slam down combo to burst the ammos. I think TH-cam videos help a lot. I was watching Rurikhan and the way he plays the gunlance seems so effortless I would love to achieve that it looks so fun
@@moonrabbit2334 yeah exactly, the videos can help ease you into the weapon, but it's always best to test it directly. sometimes, you just might be good at something you wouldn't expect
14:38 The tier list is 100% BS. It’s not a tier list at all it’s just a popularity list. Also these were made before the expansion which buffed every weapon with new moves and Sword and Shield was mega buffed
I am on ironically honoring this man's legacy. By playing through one of the old monster hunters with the sword and shield. Not saying that should be your starting weapon, but when you find the weapon that fits you'll know
Even with all the pain that comes with it, MH Freedom had a programming error with the SnS. I think it was supposed to get a 1.05 damage multiplier, but they put in 1.5. That means the SnS has a 50% damage increase over every other weapon.
17:37 Ah the charge blade. My beloved. Also ignore JoCat's bullshit. It is not as complicated as he made it out to be. You just mash normal attacks while guarding occasionally until you're fully charged then you can either charge your phials normally or use charge attack where you load your charge and immediately launch into transforming axe attack.
14:30, Calling a weapon “good” or putting them higher or lower on a tier list refers to its average clear time of missions, but none of the weapons are bad. It is mostly a matter of opinion because of how many variables affect clear time differences. In most cases if you can dodge every attack then the weapons with low defense and high offense like great sword would beat the mission a faster, some monsters have move-sets that make them more vulnerable to certain weapon combos or mechanics which is why some hunts are ridiculously short with lances, and sometimes monsters have crazy elemental weaknesses so faster hitting weapons shine.
Fellow bug stick user! And yeah IG might not be the hard hitting weapon like the GS or LS but man those mobility and freedom of movement is just too good XD
@@darkerrex1442 Hell yeah. I heard they kinda fucked it up in Rise but I'm hearing it's great again in Wilds so I'm optimistic and might stick with it.
I just hope they undo the awful changes done to it in Wilds. It use to be my go to in World and RIse. Won't touch it in Wilds unless they revert the changes
As entertaining as Jocat's vids are for knowing the weapons, it's mostly done in a very joking matter so it wont tell you everything you need to know In the end you pick the weapon you find most comfotable to use and learn which may take some trying them out, so dont feel too bad wanting to try something else if the one you are using isnt feeling like something that's working right now With experience you can technically learn to use every weapon, so just pick whatever looks cool to you and try em out!
As someone who beat the base game of monster hunter rise with practically only the longsword. I think the longsword isnt easy, but is as as some other weapons in the sense that you can ignore the counter mechanics an use it as just a sword. However, the strength to be unphased by attacks because you saw what the monster was going to do and countered it is powerful. It even works against powerful ranged attacks, even if it doesnt hurt the moster back. I would say a important part of the weapon is managing spirit gauge to always have enough to sprinkle some of the spirit attacks into your combo to extend the combo. And to have enough spirit gauge to perform a foresight slash without being left in the open if you forgot that you dont have enough spirit gauge. I switched weapons, but i still like the longsword.
I say never let anybody tell you what weapon to use you pick your own weapon that fits you and you feel comfortable with. As a great sword user you will get good enough that every hits counts because we know every move the monster will make.
Honestly as a Charge Blade user, a lot of us didn't even look how to play it, we just picked it Saw the basic (mainly charge and switch to axe to do big dmg) the most complecated stuff we usually learned it by just mashing random buttons till we stumble on it and memorised how to do , after that it's easy, every moves come naturally
As a Greatsword main, I should feel offended, but I can understand where he's coming from, greatsword seems easy to use, but it is slow as molasses uphill in January. Greatsword shows its power once you've learned a monsters moveset to position yourself so the monster runs "into" your charged attacks, and on a TCS (True Charged Strike) you'll usually see upwards of 1000 damage before you get to the endgame.
Insect Glaive isn’t complicated, I picked it up in about 10 minutes after switching from HBG. Left trigger and hit Y then B until you get all three colors. Right trigger + A to vault, then move then stick in the direction of the monster and hit B. If the last hit connects, you automatically vault again, so you can keep using direction + B. Monsters also have a hard time hitting you because you’re in the air and moving a lot. It’s pretty fun.
Sword and Shield was my first weapon and I liked it a lot, but Anjanath made me switch to the Lance and I never went back. Have over 3k hours on the lance and I love my poking stick.
It has a flow, which makes 10 times easier to uses. At some points you won't even need to look at the guages. You can just feel it in your bones that you are running low on your timers
As an Insect Glaive main, that was pretty accurate, lol. It's a really complicated weapon until you've used it for awhile and start subconsciously knowing how to manage your bug buffs, 100/10 would not recommend for anyone
There's two types of Monster Hunter players, the I play every weapon and weapon cultist. So would you like to hear the word of our god and savior the Bow.
Longsword is easy to use, but you do need to understand the monster's moves to fully master it. It has a bit of a learning curve. But you should be fine if you just keep spamming it lol. One thing to understand though, every weapon is fun. At first, you may want to stick to a specific playstyle and only choose 1 weapon, but over time you should definitely use other weapons and try to learn them, it adds so much more to the game.
It's always funny watching legacy content, after playing the updated version that has the features that were said didn't exist before in old videos, his video aged like bread.
I'm a insect glaive main, we glaives are known for being king of the sky. Then i restarted and chose the light bowgun, i really started to enjoy it especially against alateron
Something important I wanna say. I'm a GS main so I like ungo bunga smash hit big number. But Charge blade is incredibly fun. And its not as complicated as people alawys make it out to be. Yes its hard to get into and it'll take you a few hunts to get it but once you get the basics down its more like a dance. Balancing charges, sharpness and the monsters attacks feels incredibly statisfying and my god. A sreo-zum-discharge. That thing makes me keep coming back to that weapon every so often. It is pure dopamin.
Dual Blades!!!!!!!!!! I was the person that left you that essay of tips on a previous video. Dual blades are my favorite I like the Heavy bowgun (HBG), but not the light one (i normally like the faster weapons but for some reason it didnt click). HBG is on the slower side, yes...but it's worth trying out. Put a shield on it and you can block. The dodge roll moves surprisingly far, especially if you have evade extender. And WyvernHeart gives you a MINIGUN! If you were ever going to give any of the slower weapons a try, I would suggest HBG, and Gunlance because I'm biased lol. Also I believe sword and shield is lower on the list is because it's a jack of all trades master of none. Like he said it can "technically" do a lot of things other weapons can, but it does none of them better than any of the others. It's damage is lower like the dual blades but doesn't swing as fast or frequent technically making it's dps lower and in some cases its worse at afflicting statuses too for the same reason. Most of the time its better to specialize in 1 or 2 things than dabble in everything. But I say give any weapon that even slightly piqued your interest a try (even the slower ones), you may be surprised at the ones you end up liking. Happy Hunting!
From the perspective of someone who has over 1200 hours in world when choosing a weapon just try all of them and see what you like the feel of. Then once you found something you like just try to learn the fundamentals of that weapon. And learn how to do one simple combo and just abuse that.
My first play through on PS4 was Bow and Swagaxe, but this time around on PC I commited to Lance and being able to face tank almost everything makes me feel like a god.
Sword and Shield is the weapon I love the most because it most feels like I'm dancing with a monster while choosing from a utility belt of abilities with different strengths and benefits. While rare, nothing beats the feeling of pulling off a backhop evade and following into a perfect rush that lands every hit. And being able to consistently get about two knockouts with sheer bonkage every hunt is very satisfying. Also good lordy lordy the feeling of pulling off a Helmsplitter that hits a big enemy for like 10+ damage ticks in one go.
Dual blades have really good damage output when it comes to the elemental or status factor. So if you ever use dual blades, utilize the elements as much as possible.
it's not about what weapon is the easiest or even what tops tier lists... it's about what weapon vibes the best with you. But from my experience playing a handful of the weapons from World/Iceborne, the strengths and challenges of some of them include: Long Sword: + Great reach, great evasion, amazing i-frames that can get even better later on in the game with certain skills/upgrades. - Have to manage spirit gauge and time your spirit helmbreaker to not miss since most of your dps comes from it. Try not to trip your teammates. Please. Hunting Horn: + Buff you, buff your teammates, nerf the monster with a concussion. Iceborne especially feels extremely Dance-y but the D in Dance stands for Damage - You gotta stay mindful of your songlist and your songs' durations, but if you get into a flow you can do this basically passively while dealing damage. You can't cut tails. Hammer: + Deceptively mobile because you can charge your weapon while running around, and plenty of your attacks are accompanied by a forward lunge or similar move. Concussions. Concussions for everyone - May also use a surprising amount of stamina. Not as much as something like bow, dual blades, or insect glaive. Also you can't cut tails. Lance: + Fucking unmovable. Low DPS but good luck dying, and even with the "Low DPS" it's not like you'll struggle on the usual quest timer. You'll be in the action but you might barely feel the action since fights basically turn into rhythm games - Low DPS. Gunlance: + Think defense of the lance but more range and usually more damage. - But also your attacks take more commitment so that's less time you can spend behind the shield. Chargeblade: + Big explosions, lots of "guardpoints" (blocking frames in the middle of attacks), biiiig potential for elemental damage compared to gunlance's raw. Exhaust Phials let you give monsters concussions too - It has the most systems but you don't necessarily need all of them cuz you can, for example, focus more on SAED (big ult explosion) or Savage Axe (Chainsaw mode added in Iceborne) Insect Glaive: + Being airborne for so long means you're very evasive and can get hard-to-hit targets like wings and backs. Mounts are basically your dibs. - Stamina management is key, on top of your kinsect extracts and you have to build your kinsect ON TOP OF your weapon while managing the kinsect itself in combat too Dual Blades: + Very evasive, very mobile, lets you get in and out as long as you don't commit to something like Demon Dance which you can't interrupt. But also a lot of your damage comes from it so don't be scared to use it when you have an opening. Iceborne gave it Even More evasion options - Stamina management. So much stamina management. Bow/Bowguns: + You get to keep your distance more, aiming at specific parts might be easier compared to melee especially if you use mouse and keyboard. Bow phials give you a lot of flexibility - Stamina management again, also you're not able to snipe from across the map, bow's the most close ranged ranged weapon and if I remember correctly ranged weapons give you a defense debuff too to compensate for being out of the way of melee. If you're not careful you can die even more often than if you used a melee. Also resource management for phials / ammo for bowguns
I'm a Hunting Horn main and I absolutely love it. One sadly common misconception is that we're just support. In reality while HH may do less damage than other weapons, we bring amazing utility with only a minor damage decrease and the second you play with just one other player the HH becomes absolutely broken. The downside being, you need to make a lot of horns. Every horn has 3 colored notes it can play and there's 8 colors, meaning the songlist for each horn is limited to just the colors it can play. So if you want full access to HH's library of songs, you must construct additional horns. As for the more complicated sounding weapons, most weapons are actually rather easy to understand, especially charge blade. They just like to make it sound complex.
As my mains i must recommend greatsword, hammer, sword and shield, or lance. Also sword and shield got a massive buff in the dlc, its my third favorite weapon besides.
Ah I see a person getting captivated to dual blade as a starter weapon due to its fast moveset I myself was the exact same, starting out the same until to a point where I changed to my best buddy: the GREAT SWORD. It may be slow, but oh boy the BIG ASS numbers are super satisfying to hit. Really helps that it very much gives me loads of window to learn a monster's moves as I go through, which I believe should be your first approach before learning your weapon's capability I stuck with the GS until the end of Iceborne, then I started looking out to other weapons, like the long sword, hammer, lance and charge blade. In the end I find all of them to be real fun to use in their own way
So, as a CB main but who plays all of the weapons, trust me, try everything, both to see what gells with you best, but also because they are all fun. My recommendation is to kinda figure out all the weapons, and then try Charge Blade, because the trick is that it steals its principles from all of them.
The Greatsword, Hammer and Hunting Horn are slow with the swings, but the trade off is the fact that you do some redockulous damage with each hit. I started as a longsword user, now i swap between Lance, aka Pokey Stick, and the big Bonk that is the Hammer. Each Playstyle has their ups and downs, but every weapon is fun in their own right.
A little bit late and you may know this but, as of the release of the DLC of monster hunter world you can use items with unsheathed weapons with all weapons now
As a Longsword main with 1600+hrs LS is definitely easy mode. Very easy for a beginner to pick up and have fun with but it can take a long time to master the LS and when you do you are nearly unstoppable
I like using all the weapons, sword and shield is probably my least favorite. Charge blade is the most complicated weapon with insect glaive and hunting horn about equal in complexity. Though I can use them just fine. On the topic of the slicing ammo, that video was made before that ammo type was nerfed iirc. It's still good for cutting tails as long as you have extra slash berries in your inventory. Can only hold 30 slicing ammo at a time and it may take 30-50 shots from it to cut off the tail or multiple people using it or bladed weapons helping you. Ranged weapons do require managing your botanical garden in order to keep crafting ammo and/or coatings. Though you want to manage it anyway so you don't waste money on potions
I started with dual blades, got tired too quick because it's really simple, saw some longsword gameplay and got smitten by counters, finished master rank with longsword, became pretty decent at it. Now I am trying out switchaxe in mh rise and the swaxe counters are so much fun. I think you can enjoy every weapon as long as you practice with it no matter how slow they may seem. My goal is to learn all the weapons atleast decently so that I can pickup any weapon and have fun in mh wilds coming next year
Hunting horn is a very good, certain recitals are excellent. Hh that have songs that give you health regen, ear plugs to keep you from being stunned by roars
One thing ill say is try all the weapons in the training area in astera which can be found in your room if you talk to the cat or if you have access to the map go to hunters notes then maps then world map go to astera and you’ll find the training area
All weapons are great, you just gotta find the one that works for you, I main longsword but I'm learning all the other weapons one at a time.though I didn't know about the counter moves of the long sword till I got to fatalisXD
To my experience, if you get inmerse in this game you'll end using most if not all weapons, i do depending the monster i hunt and how i have more fun playing arround them
I gravitate towards Charge Blade, but I like using all weapons because I like to hoard equipment and it is a shame to not use them a few times at least
Btw longsword is the epitome of “low skill floor, Insanely high skill ceiling you could get crazy good at timing Longsword forsight parry’s and all the tech great choice for ya tho if dual blade dont feel good for you
The hammer isnt as slow as it is said to be. Ive used the dual blades a lot (300 times maybe) but the hammer is my preferred weapon. Just use the right trigger and B/Square to use its better combo moveset
for the first stream go to training grounds and hit pole with every weapon. When you feel comfortable with one play with that. If you feel bored swap weapons. That's what I did. Edit: if you play with controller the radial menu is exceptionally confusing but once you get it you get separation anxiety. Me speaking from experience.
As a Charge Blade main, I started my MH journey w/ World and the Switch Axe. … I wanted a big axe that went “boom.” 😅 … Until I got to Legiana and got absolutely manhandled. Thankfully, all my Axe Mode spamming enabled me to finally figure out Charge Blade, specifically its Axe Mode. Granted, I never really use the phials, but when I do it’s by complete accidental coincidence. In the end, I got a bigger axe that made a bigger boom. (*… “Big Axe Go Boom.” …*)
One unfortunate thing about jocat's guide is that it's outdated since the addition of the clutch claw and access to the slinger for all weapons has added new levels of verticality and move sets/combos to everything.
True fact the great sword actually has the highest damage possible in the game assuming that you build properly like every other weapon. Also the sword and shield is actually the noob friendly weapon
As an sns main i can say with confidence that sns is the most versatile weapon in the game, perfect rush is overpowered, on demand mounts(sns has the strongest mounting dmg in the game and doesnt need a ledge) backhop has insane iFrames, and using items with a weapon unsheathed is more useful than it seams, before iceborne it was even more versatile because now everyone can use slinger while unsheathed
Ive used lance, hunting horn, and switch axe They are all great weapons. Lance doesn't have much to it but does good damage and even a counter attack. Hunting horn is honestly easy to use if you know what you're doing. Switch Axe is kind of complicated I guess, I haven't done run with switch axe yet. I don't have iceborne so i don't know what else there is to the weapons
All ten weapons are viable. I personally have a few of all of them because I find that more fun. There is a fantasy stereotype that they (for some reason) have in the game, even though it has the highest carting rate(great sword). And a high number trap that is the hammer. USE ANYTHING ELSE!

That being said, I highly recommend you pick up every weapon for at least a hunt or two. Each weapon gives such a unique feeling that they're all like different games. I say give them all a fair shot
Personal recommendations for higher skill floor weapons:
Charge Blade, Greatsword, Hunting Horn. These weapons force you to think when you use them and are great if you wanna take on a challenge for yourself and learn the game on a deeper level
Weapons that are easy to use and have fun with immediately:
Longsword, Dual Blades, Hammer, Sword and Shield, Light Bowgun, Bow. These offer their 'fun value' immediately without needing to really obsess over learning the movesets and mechanics. Easy to understand weapons
Welcome to the MH community.
I swear, I have a hidden debuff that says I can't use the Bow.
sword and shield is very good, but most people say its bad cause its the most slept on weapon in the game and its got a high skill ceiling to master. and its not the long sword. just want any sword and shield speedrun and you see its pretty good
IG main here but i appreciate the SnS main so much like dude you can cut tail and also stun the monster? Use item without sheathing? Yes please XD
Id argue Lance is more slept on
@@sorinsnow3232Lance and Hunting Horn, definitely
@@ascended8174 100%
Which is a shame considering how fun they both are when used right
@@ascended8174 The main problem with HH is that it loses it's bonus in endgame.
For the record there is no wrong choice. All 14 Weapons are good and the best weapon is the one you enjoy the most.
I restarted the game and gravitated towards the Insect Glaive again. Maybe not the most META of weapons but it's fun and you get to fly around lols
There is no META weapon in this game, there is weapon that you found the most fun with
@@conghautran6317 Oh I agree, of course. By META I meant popular cus seems like everyone has a greatsword and a longsword on the discord lol
As entertaining as Jocat's vids are for knowing the weapons, it's mostly done in a very joking matter so it wont tell you everything you need to know
In the end you pick the weapon you find most comfotable to use and learn which may take some trying them out, so dont feel too bad wanting to try something else if the one you are using isnt feeling like something that's working right now
With experience you can technically learn to use every weapon, so just pick whatever looks cool to you and try em out!
I assure you we SnS mains are perfectly normal.
* Applies Chaos Oil while wearing the Wiggler helm *
Sir, please put the chili oil down and step away from the gourmand sns.
You will find that hunt the same monsters with new weapons type is a new gameplay entirely, that is the game loop that make us play hundreds of hours.
The most important thing is to have fun.
failing is part of the game and dont easily believe others if they say your playing the game wrong.
YT recommended a new vtuber newly joining our monster hunter ranks?
subscribed.
As a Charged Blade user I can agree with the detailed explanation given by JoCat on how to use that weapon.
The layered speech really encapsulates the voice you hear when you enter the Charge Blade flow state.
@@jamesproctor4568 yep 😂
Ok, I'm a charge blade main, and it's not really that complicated. It just takes a little getting used, too.
It has a flow, which makes 10 times easier to uses.
At some points you won't even need to look at the guages. You can just feel it in your bones that you are running low on your timers
As aa Longsword main i can confrim that its easy...except for the parries
Edit: used to main hammer and...he not wrong, Spin to win!!
Spin and bonk! Also, Clutch Claw with hammer is such an endorphin rush.
Switch axe is my favorite.
Because GIANT FLAMING CHAINSAW SWORD!
LS/HMR main in World, SA/GL main in Rise.
I'm thinking of trying SnS and a range weapon for Wilds.
Great reaction, your voice is so sweet.
8:29 *NSP MENTION!*
Where's my dragonator! 19:51
Dual Blades!!!!!!!!!!
I was the person that left you that essay of tips on a previous video. Dual blades are my favorite
I like the Heavy bowgun (HBG), but not the light one (i normally like the faster weapons but for some reason it didnt click).
But from my experience playing a handful of the weapons from World/Iceborne, the strengths and challenges of some of them include:
Long Sword:
+ Great reach, great evasion, amazing i-frames that can get even better later on in the game with certain skills/upgrades.
- Have to manage spirit gauge and time your spirit helmbreaker to not miss since most of your dps comes from it. Try not to trip your teammates. Please.
Hunting Horn:
+ Buff you, buff your teammates, nerf the monster with a concussion. Iceborne especially feels extremely Dance-y but the D in Dance stands for Damage
- You gotta stay mindful of your songlist and your songs' durations, but if you get into a flow you can do this basically passively while dealing damage. You can't cut tails.
Hammer:
+ Deceptively mobile because you can charge your weapon while running around, and plenty of your attacks are accompanied by a forward lunge or similar move. Concussions. Concussions for everyone
- May also use a surprising amount of stamina. Not as much as something like bow, dual blades, or insect glaive. Also you can't cut tails.
Lance:
+ Fucking unmovable. Low DPS but good luck dying, and even with the "Low DPS" it's not like you'll struggle on the usual quest timer. You'll be in the action but you might barely feel the action since fights basically turn into rhythm games
- Low DPS.
Gunlance:
+ Think defense of the lance but more range and usually more damage.
- But also your attacks take more commitment so that's less time you can spend behind the shield.
Chargeblade:
+ Big explosions, lots of "guardpoints" (blocking frames in the middle of attacks), biiiig potential for elemental damage compared to gunlance's raw. Exhaust Phials let you give monsters concussions too
- It has the most systems but you don't necessarily need all of them cuz you can, for example, focus more on SAED (big ult explosion) or Savage Axe (Chainsaw mode added in Iceborne)
Insect Glaive:
+ Being airborne for so long means you're very evasive and can get hard-to-hit targets like wings and backs. Mounts are basically your dibs.
- Stamina management is key, on top of your kinsect extracts and you have to build your kinsect ON TOP OF your weapon while managing the kinsect itself in combat too
Dual Blades:
+ Very evasive, very mobile, lets you get in and out as long as you don't commit to something like Demon Dance which you can't interrupt. But also a lot of your damage comes from it so don't be scared to use it when you have an opening. Iceborne gave it Even More evasion options
- Stamina management. So much stamina management.
Bow/Bowguns:
+ You get to keep your distance more, aiming at specific parts might be easier compared to melee especially if you use mouse and keyboard. Bow phials give you a lot of flexibility
- Stamina management again, also you're not able to snipe from across the map, bow's the most close ranged ranged weapon and if I remember correctly ranged weapons give you a defense debuff too to compensate for being out of the way of melee. If you're not careful you can die even more often than if you used a melee. Also resource management for phials / ammo for bowguns
As a gunlance main he is 1000% correct but in rise we could literally fly across any maps with alot of vertical
Hell yeah fellow dual blades user! I love being a knife tornado
As my mains i must recommend greatsword, hammer, sword and shield, or lance.
Also sword and shield got a massive buff in the dlc, its my third favorite weapon besides.
Try every weapon! I wont respect like two of them but if you don't try all of them at least once.
Ah I see a person getting captivated to dual blade as a starter weapon due to its fast moveset
I myself was the exact same, starting out the same until to a point where I changed to my best buddy: the GREAT SWORD. It may be slow, but oh boy the BIG ASS numbers are super satisfying to hit. Really helps that it very much gives me loads of window to learn a monster's moves as I go through, which I believe should be your first approach before learning your weapon's capability
I stuck with the GS until the end of Iceborne, then I started looking out to other weapons, like the long sword, hammer, lance and charge blade. In the end I find all of them to be real fun to use in their own way
GreatSword Is the best
Slow maybe, but big Stick = Big Damage
Charge blade is actually my main weapon that I use in Monster Hunter World, can't wait to break it out in Wilds lol
TH-cam randomly recommended this to me, but there's few thing i love more than welcoming new fellow Hunters to the fold. ❤
The Glaive is my best friend's favorite. Me, I hunt different prey, or rather did. Prey made of components and armor composites.
I don't know if you noticed but if you look at the title card of each episode the Long Sword gets longer and longer.
So, as a CB main but who plays all of the weapons, trust me, try everything, both to see what gells with you best, but also because they are all fun. My recommendation is to kinda figure out all the weapons, and then try Charge Blade, because the trick is that it steals its principles from all of them.
Charge Blade my beloved. 5k+ hrs and charge blade and GreatSword remained my favorite
As a hammer main i can say that the only way to play is the way of the spinning bonk
Which weapon should you pick?
Me: ALL of them >.>
Longsword is easy in regards to just being able to deal damage consistently. But hard to master when it comes to damage up time and being effective
All weapons are great, you just gotta find the one that works for you, I main longsword but I'm learning all the other weapons one at a time.though I didn't know about the counter moves of the long sword till I got to fatalisXD
sword and shield is one of the easier weapons to start using but also has a masive skill roof. easy to use, hard to master.
As a switch axe main, just button mash and you’ll be good. But u gotta remember to sharpen or else your dmg goes down a ton
To my experience, if you get inmerse in this game you'll end using most if not all weapons, i do depending the monster i hunt and how i have more fun playing arround them
I gravitate towards Charge Blade, but I like using all weapons because I like to hoard equipment and it is a shame to not use them a few times at least
Btw longsword is the epitome of “low skill floor, Insanely high skill ceiling you could get crazy good at timing Longsword forsight parry’s and all the tech great choice for ya tho if dual blade dont feel good for you
I LOVE YOUR MODEL!!!!
Damn that Light Bowgun video is old, slicing ammo hasn't been a meta for years lol
As a charge blade main… not as difficult as it is mind bending
The hammer isnt as slow as it is said to be. Ive used the dual blades a lot (300 times maybe) but the hammer is my preferred weapon. Just use the right trigger and B/Square to use its better combo moveset
for the first stream go to training grounds and hit pole with every weapon. When you feel comfortable with one play with that. If you feel bored swap weapons. That's what I did. Edit: if you play with controller the radial menu is exceptionally confusing but once you get it you get separation anxiety. Me speaking from experience.
i main hunting horn and charge blade muscle memory refused to forget it it nicknamed the chart weapon for a reason
I've played LS ever since i unlocked it in the MHTri.
I love Jocats series
The best weapon are the one that you enjoy the most. Happy hunting!
One unfortunate thing about jocat's guide is that it's outdated since the addition of the clutch claw and access to the slinger for all weapons has added new levels of verticality and move sets/combos to everything.
SnS jumped from ok weapon to absolute fucking stupid in IB. Almost 3000 damages with optimized gear on PR alone.
Insect glaive is my favorite because helicopter!!! Brrrrr
What they dont tell you. Is that the longsword gets longer in every video thumbnail.
Ive used lance, hunting horn, and switch axe
They are all great weapons.
I wouldn't call the hammer "slow." It is actually comical how mobile and fast you can be lugging around a giant weapon.
People like to say Insect Glaive is just bad but once you get the hang of it, the monster will never touch you.
Fatalis wings hitboxes are somehow large enough to hit you in the air when he slither.
Insect glaive is actually pretty simple. just make your pet bug hit the monster and proceed to never touch the ground again. XD
Charge blade isnt that complicated...you build up phials with sword, use em in axe mode, or use em to charge the shield
The Monster hunter Virus Speads Let's Goooo!
All ten weapons are viable. I personally have a few of all of them because I find that more fun.
There is a fantasy stereotype that they (for some reason) have in the game, even though it has the highest carting rate(great sword). And a high number trap that is the hammer. USE ANYTHING ELSE!
the true mhw weapon's tier
SS+ : my weapon
F: any other weapon
