    I’ve watched other videos and they suggest checking the fuel link is centered into the injectors. An important missed step in this video. Also you didn’t mention lubing the o-rings. Thanks for the informational video, I suggest numerous videos before doing the job, but this is a good one to watch.

    After seeing this, I think I'm ready to make the switch from powerstroke to cummins 😂 I love my 6.0 and the 300k miles it has served me so far, but replacing anything under the valve covers is a real chore with everything thats stacked on top of the engine in the bay. Inline 6 just looks so simple compared to a V8

    I’m kinda mechanically inclined and I’ve been wanting to do a injector replacement by myself but I wish you show this process since you start removing the valve cover and the fuel line and all the stuff that need to be removed to get to the injector.

    My 5.9 common rail engine has a cold start misfire below about 40-45deg ambient air temp. The exhaust port remains cold on #1. #1 will eventually fire. The engine does not misfire once off idle if it is warmed a bit. Can I swap out #1 or should there be some diagnostic testing done first? Thanks

  • @Chief6067

    I subscribed and have a broader general question if I may ask.....
    On a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9, with 292k miles on it, automatic trans, what might I be looking at that might need to be either repaired or replaced on the engine, and or transmission?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the most part you have just routine maintenance items. Otherwise nothing that I would say that needs replacing just based on mileage. Only fluid changes and visual inspections on items such as brakes and seals.

    Is it better to use 6-7 injection tube or is this just hope. The day the move your fuel a lot better or is just hype from internet. They are same price so no gain for them to do this so what do you think of the better feed tubes and it is just for somebody, personally that needs some thing diffrent to make my truck camper. Let me know what you think for add as the better flow tubes they are same price to me if Iam looking any thing or a simple up date on new injectors just to make for a little better more power for some of the trucks that need that little dot that says you have a 6 hp in your turbo ?

    My 04 5.9 starts fine but idles a little rough. Once you out it into drive and presses the accelerator it takes off on its own ( power surge) and I have to slip it back into neutral and hit the brake to bring the rpms back down. What's causing this problem ?

  • @brianlau8316
    @brianlau8316 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    i hope you see my question ... i have an 03 cummins , having not start problems . sometimes i go days without a problem .. other days it happens all day . its been to 2 different shops . With three different diagnoses. If I brought it to the dealer would they be able to hook it up to a computer and tell exactly what it injectors are good or bad?? it has a new cp3 and lifted pump . when the truck doesn't want to start it will fire with starting fluid.. Also I've unplugged the FCA and the truck will start.. thank you for your help .

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Brian Lau I recommend first removing the FCA and spraying it with wd40. Then reinstall and see what affect over time. Its important to monitor the fuel pressure with a scanner to see what the rail pressure is. This can point towards a FCA issue. Its not common but I have seen that before. As far as the injectors. Unless you have a check engine light and code for a cylinder misfire or injector circuit test.....you would have to perform an injector kill test to see if any cylinder isn't affected as far as the way the engine feels. These are a few of the needed steps. It will most likely will take some diag to narrow the issue and most importantly the issue needs to be happening inorder to get an accurate diag. I have a FCA replacement video incase you haven't seen it already. th-cam.com/video/5ZpR7DxM4XA/w-d-xo.html . Thanks for watching and make sure to subcribe

      thanks .. i have watched it .. i have no codes . and the fca was replaced with the new cp3 .. should i try cleaning it ? I'm willing to take the truck to the dealer , but only if they have the ability to pinpoint which injectors bad.? It's a $165 diagnosis . the other shops gave me some B.S. about my Engine coolant temperature sensor being bad and that's causing the problem.. well i fixed that and still same issues . another waiting to take the fuel system apart , and reassemble . thinking that would fix it .. thanks for your time

    Does the manual for this really specify torques in inch/lbs *AND* ft/lbs? My dad made the mistake of watching this instead of turning to his manual and now I'm mad as hell.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Inch/lbs and ft/lbs are used....ft/lb torque wrenches can not go down low enough in some cases and thats when in/lbs are used.....especially for smaller bolts like the 8mm bolts that hold the injector down. So you will be using both in this repair. Thats also the info directly from the factory Chrysler service manual. If you like I would be more then welling to email you that exact service procedure with those specs if it helps with the confusion.

    I'm new to diesels and I'm buying an 04' with a 5.9 Cummins.
    Should it need injectors somewhere down the line, is it more advisable to buy new stock injectors or remanufactured ones?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The electrical portion can be bad which usually you can measure the resistance of. The mechanical portion is tested by performing an injector return flow test. There are other tests as well which require a good amount of time to run.

    Do the valves have to be adjusted?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Being that everything is taken off as far as the valve cover.....I recommend doing if the mileage is at 100k or every 100k from there. Otherwise I see no reason to when replacing an injector.

      (Yes) but you you need to block off injector or injectors then do an injector return flow test. Too see which injector or injectors is returning the most fuel.

  • @Hiperf
    @Hiperf 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have always liked watching your videos but I think you kind of rushed this job. Where did you clean out the injector hole bore? I have never seen it where a bunch of carbon didn't fall off and sit on the head. This needs to be blown out with air and verify its clean before installing or you risk compression loss. Also removing the intake valve was a wasted step. I also like to make sure my rocker arm is loose before I remove it.
