    Interesting channel. I just caught your talk *"What kills bonsai in winter?"* I lost my favorite tree a few days ago. I'm new to bonsai but had attempted the hobby 25 years ago. I got too eager and collected trees before educating myself and failed miserably..I'll be looking in and thanks!

  • @Vaasth
    @Vaasth ปีที่แล้ว +1

    looks super cool, for how long do you keep the wires on?

    • @GrowingBonsai
      @GrowingBonsai  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For larch quite long. It is a bit of a challenge as they want to go back their original shape. I will leave it on as long as I dare, till MAX 1/2 of the wire is swallowed by the expanding branch. Then the scarring is minimal. Typically I expect mid-summer to reach this point, if I do not fertilize a lot. Most of the time this means a full rewire is needed and another seaon of growth to get the branches to really hold their shape..

  • @dreaminggreennursery

    • @GrowingBonsai
      @GrowingBonsai  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So nice of you! I think I did exactly what I hopes to do with my videos, inspire people to try and go one step further. A lot can be done with fairly basic material. I am not sure what the tool is. I got it from Japan, I think Matsu: www.bonsaiplaza.com/en/12451-multipurpose-bonsaitrunk-splitter.html

    Very nice redesign, do you think you will be shortening the branches in future?

    • @GrowingBonsai
      @GrowingBonsai  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well spotted. I am in doubt. I left them long to increase thickness a little faster. Buuut.. I now actually like the very wide design for this tree. Makes it look a little different!

    • @andrewbeattie5245
      @andrewbeattie5245 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GrowingBonsai i agree, maybe just a little more separation between the levels of the long branches?

    • @GrowingBonsai
      @GrowingBonsai  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewbeattie5245 We'll see. I will let it grow for a bit, see how it fills out and over time thin out the canopy. This is just a first setup, which rarely is the final image :)

    Hi, a better look know 👍Is it european or japanese?regards from barcelona

    • @GrowingBonsai
      @GrowingBonsai  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The branches have a reddish tone, which is indicative of the japanese larch. The european has more yellowish young bark

    • @-JotaBe-
      @-JotaBe- ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GrowingBonsai sometimes also the hybrids. I saw at least male flowers. Did it produce cones?Mine has at least 16 years and never did one cone 😭

    • @GrowingBonsai
      @GrowingBonsai  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@-JotaBe- Yeah, hybrids make life dificult. IO think hybrid flowers have traces of red in them, whereas the full japanese have absolutely green flowers. This -if I recall correctly- has green flowers. So I am sticking to Japanese, although in day to day growing it makes little difference (Buut.. Japanese are stronger growers in my region)
