By the way man I appreciate the vids. I just took mine apart for the first time yesterday because it was running slow and dirty. Yours and tronics videos really helped me out because I've never taken one apart.
I'm here because YT suggested your channel whilst I was watching a US based repairer. I contrast your humility and excellent explanations on the repair work you perform. You have earned my subscription.
With it already having the washer trick done to it to save it once already and then with it being drop damaged I agree I would have started with the reflow and then a reball. Another great video and many thanks for saving yet another one especially a jailbreakable one from the dump
2400 watts for the IR reball machine? Have thought about how cool to have one. Can household power even do that? Australian voltage is 240, so maybe with the correct fuse?
Congrats on the fix, maybe this will finally motivate me to try fix my 7.55 CUH-1200. In 2020 it shutdown with an overheating error message. I left it off for a few hours to cool. Then I removed HDD cover, switched it on and no fan spin at all, but it booted OK to the dash. Bought a genuine replacement fan from eBay seller selling torn-down Ps4s. Cleaned heatsink, replaced fan, removed old thermal paste for some new Ceramique 2. Ps4 kinda works now but randomly shuts down with a clicking sound (kinda like a relay switch click or maybe hdd?) No error message whatsoever. It can sometimes play for over 10hours straight no problems or it may shutdown after 1 or 2 or 3 hours playtime. Once shutdown happens it will just keep on shutting down immediately after powering on. Cure is to leave it the F alone for a couple of days unplugged and it may power on again. Oh yeah if the Ps4 is on and stable and I make the mistake of switching off to take a break, it will have the repeated shutting down problem when I try to switch on again. Had never been jailbroken before 2020 coz i used to update to play the latest & greatest. I only got the 7.55 jb by accident coz the Ps4 is mostly unusable in its current condition so I don't use it or update. Made the 7.55 jb to check temp and try if the fan exploit mod will solve the problem but no joy, Temps are OK btw.
If it's making a clicking sound from the hard drive bay it sounds like the hard drive is dying. If not, it's likely failing caps in the power supply but you're much better off just replacing the psu if that's the case since they're dangerous to work on and cheap to buy
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I could never really pin-point if the click is from the hdd or from elsewhere. I've been debating whether to also buy a 12xx Psu from torn-down eBay Ps4's or instead buy 2.5 Sata Ssd to eliminate a faulty Hdd as source of click, coz I was thinking maybe the Psu has relays clicking (ala my also dead Ps3 which had audible psu relays) & pointing to maybe psu fault. On the confidence of your recommendation I'll get both & hopefully resurect my trusty 1200, wish me luck. Cheers
@@F14foreverF14 yeah I think the psu is cheap enough to be viable to at least give it a try, along with a hard drive which are super cheap these days 😀

Have you ever worked on an ACM for a ford radio? They have an issue with their radios that is usually referred to as the blinking clock of death. My radio in my truck is having this problem and I can’t find anything about how to fix it besides placing acm mother board into the oven to reset the solder. From what I’ve found it’s a temporary fix for this problem and doesn’t seem like it’s worth the trouble of disassembling just to have it work for about a week.
3 years ago I saved 3 PS4 original from being scrapped and was sold on ebay and I bought the three and they all work. Sold one. Still have the other two.
Hi Phil. I have a PS4 1216B that the optical drive is not reading discs. I have swapped the drive and ribbon cables from my own working PS4 and it still comes up with Unrecognized. I know the 1216 optical drives don't have a daughter board so its not that, I have also updated the software, rebuilt the database, did nothing so I then installed a new HDD and installed new software (v10.1 from memory). Tested all the fuses apart from F6001 as I cant find it on that motherboard for some reason but it still will not read discs. Would you have any clue as to what else it could be? Phil, does your thermal camera have enough resolution to pick out a shorted SMD capacitor grouped around other capacitors or does the area look like a hot blob? Have a great weekend. 🍻
From my pov - as long as you dont really make use of it daily - its not worth investing so much to buy a better thermal cam - as soon as u found the general area of the culprit, just go on with alcohol/freeze spray or logic analysis/desoldering.
