Hiking the Borden Creek Trail, Sipsey Wilderness, Alabama

- In this video, I hike the Borden Creek Trail, in the Sipsey Wilderness of North Alabama, with family and friends.
We started out at the Sipsey River Picnic Area and headed north under the road bridge onto the Borden Creek Trail, also known as Trail 200. We passed by several small waterfalls before reaching the junction with Trail 209. Here we continued north on the Borden Creek Trail through beautiful forests and past numerous small waterfalls and side canyons. At the half-way point, my wife and Jonathan turned around and returned to the car while the rest of us continued on up Trail 200 to the giant wall and the Fat Man’s Squeeze cave. After passing through the cave, we continued on until we reached the “Post-Apocalyptic Bridge” over the Borden Creek. We stopped here to take a look from the bridge before climbing back up out of the canyon to the parking area on top of the ridge.
This was a beautiful early spring hike with wild flowers just starting to burst forth. This is my top recommended trail for beginning hikers who want to experience the Sipsey Wilderness.
The Sipsey Wilderness (#sipseywilderness) lies within the Bankhead National Forest in northwestern Alabama. Sipsey was the first designated wilderness area in Alabama in 1975 and now encompasses about 24,922 acres (10,086 ha). Rivers and streams have carved canyons and valleys in the limestone and sandstone of the local plateau resulting in a wide range of micro-climates in a short hiking distance, some amazing natural features, a few historic sites, as well as endless nooks and crannies to explore. Wilderness camping, building campfires, hunting, and fishing are permitted. Drones are not allowed. Sipsey is a "Leave no Trace" area (lnt.org/why/7-...) with, despite appearances, no designated fire rings, camp sites or facilities. Unfortunately, there are many traces of the hundreds who hike and camp here every year. Please be considerate and do not add to the already extensive damage in this special place.

The first waterfall looks really nice. I like the overhang behind it. And the second one too. And the third. Nice little creek and campsite area. This is definitely a beautiful trail. Lots of waterfalls for sure. Trails that run along a creek are usually some of the best. 👍

Great video Joe. That is a happy baby! Lucky parents! LOL I have hiked this but it was too muddy to make it to Fat Man's Squeeze. I might hike these trails this weekend.
Yeah, she did great! They are very lucky parents. The Fat Man's Squeeze is a major highlight of the route. If you haven't been to it, you definitely need to go! 👍
