- Gordon Lee "Tex" Beneke was an American saxophonist, singer, and bandleader. His career is a history of associations with bandleader Glenn Miller and former musicians and singers who worked with Miller. His band is also associated with the careers of Eydie Gormé, Henry Mancini and Ronnie Deauville. Beneke also solos on the recording the Glenn Miller Orchestra made of their popular song "In The Mood" and sings on another popular Glenn Miller recording, "Chattanooga Choo Choo". Jazz critic Will Friedwald considers Beneke to be one of the major blues singers who sang with the big bands of the early 1940s.
Early life
Beneke was born in Fort Worth, Texas. He started playing saxophone when he was nine, going from soprano to alto to tenor saxophones and staying with the latter. His first professional work was with bandleader Ben Young in 1935, but it was when he joined the Glenn Miller Orchestra three years later that his career hit its stride. Beneke said: "It seems that Gene Krupa had left the Goodman band and was forming his own first band. He was flying all over the country looking for new talent and he stopped at our ballroom one night . Gene wound up taking two or three of our boys with him back to New York. wanted to take but his sax section was already filled." Krupa knew that Glenn Miller was forming a band and recommended Beneke to Miller.
It realy is a treat to watch those old movies once in a while. A golden era for sure.
So interesting and informative. Many thanks. England, September, 2024.
I had the chance to met him in our visit from Mexico City to Disneyland in 1987, with my two little sons. I have a picture of him with them. I always admire the music of the Glenn MIller Orchestra, and listen very often as a kid of that LP of my Dad Reunion in HiFi, I still have it. I enjoy very much meeting Mr. Tex Beneke, he was very nice my sons and with me.
Early life Beneke !! LOL Straight from Wikipedia !
He misprounces his name repeatedly.
The AI voice is the one major drawback to a very informative video. A human voice would've been so much better. By the way, the artificial voice also mispronounced the word "re-creation." Use human voices for your videos, people.
AI
The minute you used ai to narrate, I said, " nope " . You're not wasting one second of my time with that garbage. Plus, Tex deserves better.
I hate AI narration. You can type the names phonetically to get AI to get it right. Behn-neh-kee, for example.
I don’t believe that the narrator is an actual human. I believe the voice is computer generated reading from a script and attempting to speak phonetically. And historically there are some glaring errors.
Beneke as everyone should know is pronounced Benekee! Tex was a great musician, what an insult!!!
Crap. Stupid AI voiceover? How insulting...
this announcer mispronouced a myriad of names, obvisously not knowing anything about the swing era.
Tex was phenomenal
