This is the full clip of the Glenn Miller band with Tex Beneke and one of the greatest dance routines ever in movies by the Nicholas Brothers. From the 1942 movie "Orchestra Wives"

I have tears rolling down my cheeks. The musician-ship, and the singing are utterly perfect. Out of it pours the emotions. Now that is real talent. Thank you everyone.
I'm glad to learn it's not just me who has tears flooding out as I hear this fantastic score. It takes me back to the 60's, listening to the Glenn Miller Story LP with my dad and siblings ....
This is MY KIND of music!! Born in 1954, now 68 years old!! My parents were entertainer’s, beautiful voices and their harmony was “BETTER “ than perfect. We 7 children always want hem to sing!! Momma’s gone now, in 2003, but Dad is soon to be “95”!! Still has a beautiful voice 💕🙏🙏
I've lost count of the number of times I've returned to this video over the years. It is just entertainment at its best. Watching Marion's zeal and playfulness, the amazing artistry of the Nicholas Brothers and all of it against the wonderful melody of Glenn's orchestra is simply amazing. I wonder if these incredible artists knew people would be applauding them decades later. We will never see the likes of this in entertainment again.
I was getting winded just watching the Nicholas Brothers! Incredible athleticism. Kinda makes me sad that this kind of live entertainment is hard to find these days.
The Nicholas Brothers could dance any modern dancer's away with their moves and singing combined!! This music is my favorite and their dancing just adds more to it!!
Over the top great musicianship on every level. No multi track, no over dubbing, no pitch correction. 5 part vocal harmony, 18 or 20 piece band completely in tune, swinging and doing choreography.
Did you notice Cesar.Romero playing the piano this a priceless rendition of this swing legend ,never will you see or listen too an area of talent ever I feel privileged ❤
Fox liked to put members of their "actors' stable" into roles in musicals. But unless the person was a trained musician their parts were usually dubbed. Romero's playing was done by Chummy MacGregor and Gleason's was by Doc Goldberg. Even star Lynn Bari's singing was dubbed by Pat Friday.
But TH-cam has given brothers Nichols a new audience and my sense is that most people recognize that they were exceptionally talented dancers and singers.
Love, love, love this music! The Big Band era was so fantastic. Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Les Brown, etc. Think of the singers that came out of those bands. Anyone hear of Frank Sinatra and Doris Day? My toes still tap when I hear these great songs that are utterly timeless. Today's "music" is nothing but noise compared to this.
This wonderful music still kicks butt 75 years later...not much of today's music will be remembered like this in 75 years time...Thanks for posting these great clips. 🤗👍🏼🤗👍🏼🤗😜
Billy wrote some amazing charts for the band but they were so far ahead of their time Miller rarely performed them. Try to find an air check of "Harlem Chapel Bells" (not easy, unf.) - it sounds like it could have been done in the mid-50s. The current band's conductor Erik Stabnau has pulled out a few other May compositions as well.
If you can appreciate this kind of music from a songwriter's perspective and how somebody had to compose every riff of every instrument, I'll tell you, those people weren't amateurs.
When I was in my teens in the 60's, I used to make fun of this music. Then I grew up and learned how much I didn't know. I've been playing jazz drums since the 70's and I am still learning how to play swing jazz and American Standards. Anything that makes people feel love and want to dance is wonderful!
Perfect big finish act of the Nicholas Brothers. They were amazing! So much athleticism and polish while making it look easy and loose and fun. I bet they did have fun. What a class act! I love those guys!!!
The depressing thought is that they were a "finishing act" because of racism. If you look at this one and, say, Chattanooga Choochoo, you'll notice there's a clean break in the music right before the brothers come on and it sounds almost like the music could've ended there. That was to allow southern state censors to cut out their scenes so audiences wouldn't have to see Black performers. For the same reason, the brothers were usually hired as guest stars, so their names wouldn't have to appear on the bill in southern states, and all of Glenn Miller's band on film were white.
Wait! Caesar Romero is on the piano - and JACKIE GLEASON is on base? Can you just imagine what the after-party was like!!! Too cool music. My dad was a WWII vet, and even though I grew up in the late 70's/early 80's, I love this stuff, because unlike a lot of kids my age, I had exposure to it. It's funny, the older I get, the better this gets. Miss you dad. Thanks for saving the world, and for playing Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman all the time in our house.
I feel the same as Thomas Webb. My father was an italian vet, he was aged 22 when he faught as a pilot on the wrong side and his plane crashed into the tirrenian sea on September 1943 the 8ght(!). He was rescued by chance after 5 days without food or water on his little drift boat and then came the american army to free Italy. So he knew Glenn Miller, T.Dorsey and that kind of music forbidden by the fascist regime and he loved it very much. I already have the boogie woogie of T,D.'s orchestra with the blend "V disc" he bought in that period. I agree with you Mr. Webb. Thanks

Likely the greatest movie scene ever. The collection of talent...as if singing and playing an instrument isn't hard enough, the idea of TWO brothers being able to sing AND dance...mercy.
The Modernaires. One the hottest, if not the best harmony groups to ever hit the airwaves. And Tex Beneke? If there is a definition of cool, this man is it. Sax player. Whistles like a bird in perfect pitch. And a voice as smooth as silk. And the tap dancers? Not sure who they are but goddamn. Never seen such smooth sailin. Absolute professionals. Now this was entertainment at its finest.🇺🇸
Wow what talent here on so many levels. Still cannot get over that dance sequence. Without wires or anything. Inhuman, bet mj wished he could have done that.
I have this movie saved on my Dish recorder and I still watch it regularly. Although I was born in 1949, I'm still too young to have enjoyed this music in person. However, I'm a moonlighting jazz drummer who still plays this music. Gotta love swing!
The band is sublime, as always. The Nicholas Brothers, are insanely good. To get up out of a split without using yours hands is tough enough. To do it a dozen times in a routine, just crazy!
Really makes me misty-eyed. Makes me think of my parents. They've been gone for a lot of years. At one time, my father was with the Benny Goodman band. Swing music was his thing.
THIS is MUSIC ! I JUST LOVE this singing group & orchestra. The fact that Jackie Gleason is part of this before he really became famous is amazing. LOVE, love, LOVE this !!
What do you get when you combine Glenn Miller, his orchestra, Tex Beneke, the Modernaires and the Nicholas Brothers? Absolute, utter perfection. A masterpiece.
@@Disques13Swing Not really. Aside from Tex Beneke, the singing was ensemble (as opposed to solo) in this song, and that made the point. Otherwise, I would have individually listed the horn section, the reeds, etc.
This is the greatest. Glenn Miller and the Nicholas Brothers. I watch this at least once a week. I may shut it down when they are doing splits that would kill me.
Precision dancing at its finest. The incomparable Nicholas Brothers were celebrated by their peers as the Greatest! They set the standard for excellence in themselves and for those that will eventually follow. Now, the Nicholas Brothers are “Dancing with the ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.” God bless
I can't figure out which is better the singing or the dancing. The song is so catchy but my God climbing the wall and backflip. The Nicholas brothers did the death drop back in the 40s.
Thanks so much for the clip. It's criminal that the Nicholas Brothers aren't better known. They should've been among *the* biggest stars -- they were as elegant as Fred Astaire (whose work I love) and also were able to do athletic feats that he couldn't.
Thanks for the info. Was wondering whomthe two tap dancers were. Yes, I was thinking of Fred Astaire when watching and thought, I don't think Mr. Astaire has the gymnastic abilities like the Nicholas Brothers do. Simply fantastic number
According to Wikipedia, it was (unfortunately) a common practice for Hollywood studios in the 1940s to edit out parts of clips of songs when prints were sent to Southern states. Thus, when performers like the Nicholas Brothers were featured rather than just as comic relief or stereotypical characters, Southern audiences never saw their dance routines.
I was born in 1956 and these songs were still heard on the radio 55 or so years ago. Send all that heavy metal and rap back to hell where it came from. This is real music.♥️🤗👍👍
Come on, You got to give it to these Nicholas Brothers. They are the most extraordinary entertainers, dancers, and singers of every generation. Gene Kelly was my favorite, until I seen the Nicholas Brothers jump off the wall, flip, and get back up with great pose and strength, not like Gene Kelly. The Nicholas Brothers danced like themselves and like no one else. I love them Nicholas Brothers. They don't get the recognition they honorably deserve, because of the racist times we all lived in then and now.🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
I didn't even know about the Nicholas brothers til I saw this. Wow.....were they talented! Great voices AND dancing. I've never seen anyone who is that daring and acrobatic in their dance moves AND can sing like that.
Last night my wife and I went to the "Glenn Miller" Orchestra. They do a wonderful rendition of a lot of Glen millers music with dancing and singing to boot. I also grew up with a family that loved this music. It is with me still.
My mom and dad would have loved these amazing clips They both raised me on the classic films and I am so very thankful that they did! Wonderful thank you so much for sharing this absolute gem! 💎
I love this music. It makes me proud to be an American. But maybe I'm being nostalgic and stupid, as US music now is pure shit. Somethings gone wrong with this country.
The music back in the 1930s and 40s were the best music in that time. Most bands today call themselves big bands because of the popularity they have, but nothing will compete with the Big Band aera. The music and songs were top-notch and still are top notch in my mind. I am 33 now and still think this is better than today's music
Our darling Dad died last week age 95. He was a young man in the 1940's and Glenn Miller accompanied our childhoods in the 60's and 70's - we grew to appreciate it and now that he's gone - it brings back precious memories of him.

if these guys saw mj perform they'd seize and keel over
@@isaach8289 lmao you're joking right. show me one clip of MJ dancing even close to this well haha
No one can touch the Nick Brothers
No one. The Greatest Dancing Team ❤❤
I have this movie saved on my Dish recorder and I still watch it regularly. Although I was born in 1949, I'm still too young to have enjoyed this music in person. However, I'm a moonlighting jazz drummer who still plays this music. Gotta love swing!
I was born in 61 and I listen to this stuff when I want something different from the rock...
The band is sublime, as always. The Nicholas Brothers, are insanely good. To get up out of a split without using yours hands is tough enough. To do it a dozen times in a routine, just crazy!
This song was nominated for an Oscar. Pure pleasure.
It was one of Gerald and Betty Ford's favorites- President and Mrs.Ford had a loving marriage and- Gerry married Betty- a gal from- Kalamazoo.
Nobody swings it like GLENN MILLER and HIS ORCHESTRA; Love the Golden Age of Hollywood Musicals.
Every time I see the Nickolas Brothers do the splits I think of a pulled groin muscle!
Even so, they were extremely talented dancers.
Beneke had a really smooth voice.
The perfect voice for this kind of song.
and has a distinctive too!
The Nicholas Brothers defy the laws of physics and gravity in the way they dance! They were truly amazing and they had bodies like Gumby!
Marion Hutton, Tex Benecke and Glenn Miller get things rollin' and then the Nicholas Brothers blow the lid off with their dancing!
The Greatest Generation deserves such great music. God bless them all.
No one can touch the Nicholas Brothers. No one.
They are marvelous.... true artisits
5:12 Gene Kelly held his own in The Pirate with the Nicholas Brothers check out the movie
The Nicholas Brothers are 'icing on the cake'.
Really makes me misty-eyed. Makes me think of my parents. They've been gone for a lot of years. At one time, my father was with the Benny Goodman band. Swing music was his thing.
I am 74 years of age, a Chinese from far away Singapore, really enjoy the Big Band era music and songs💖
how ever gave this a thumbs down was born with a tin ear.
Tin my hind end!!! Wood at best
THIS is MUSIC ! I JUST LOVE this singing group & orchestra. The fact that Jackie Gleason is part of this before he really became famous is amazing. LOVE, love, LOVE this !!
I never realized the Nicholas brothers sang so incredibly well!
Glenn Miller orchestra, and the Nicholas Brothers?....WOW!
Born, raised in Kalamazoo. When stationed in Texas in '68 they had heard the song were surprised that there was really a town called Kalamazoo, lol!
What do you get when you combine Glenn Miller, his orchestra, Tex Beneke, the Modernaires and the Nicholas Brothers? Absolute, utter perfection. A masterpiece.
You left out Marion Hutton.............
@@Disques13Swing Not really. Aside from Tex Beneke, the singing was ensemble (as opposed to solo) in this song, and that made the point. Otherwise, I would have individually listed the horn section, the reeds, etc.
A real group of musicians, vocals and the brothers will always be the best.
Hello Sue, How are you doing?
I can't figure out which is better the singing or the dancing. The song is so catchy but my God climbing the wall and backflip. The Nicholas brothers did the death drop back in the 40s.
Marion Hutton was drop-dead gorgeous, with a great smile.
An era gone by. Can't be forgotten.
They actually danced together...
Excellent
@@williamsnyder5616 Those bigots missed out on some unbelievable talent. Too bad, their loss.
I was born in 1956 and these songs were still heard on the radio 55 or so years ago. Send all that heavy metal and rap back to hell where it came from. This is real music.♥️🤗👍👍
DITTO!
what an beautiful song. nothing but pure joy in this performance.
They don't get the recognition they honorably deserve, because of the racist times we all lived in then and now.🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Check out The Berry Brothers. They were great too.
My goodness. This is pure perfection and so happy it’s preserved.
This is all so good it brings tears to my eyes every time i watch it.
For me personally this song never gets old!
No one can match the Nicholas brothers. The greatest ever.
Glenn Miller, Tex Beneke, Marion Hutton and the Modernaires, with the incomparable dancing of the Nicholas Brothers. Musical heaven!
Thank goodness this incredible time in entertainment has been recorded for posterity.
I didn't even know about the Nicholas brothers til I saw this. Wow.....were they talented! Great voices AND dancing. I've never seen anyone who is that daring and acrobatic in their dance moves AND can sing like that.
2:35 to 2:48
The most perfect harmony ever sung!!!
The Nicholas brothers are truly a f en gem, of artists. Love them.
I was 16 ! What a wonderful time it was, dancing to this music !!!
Wow - that's professional art of dance -great
that's real dancing.
I had never heard the Nicholas brothers sing. Fantastic cut from the movie.
The Nicholas Brothers are superb !!!
Love the band and esp. the Nicholas Brothers.
What can I say that hasn't been said? This is BEST TALENTS EVER!
The greatest generation. We could sure use their spirit and wisdom back again these days.
