Forest Bathing, A Natural Way to Boost Your Health

- Take a forest bath and experience the healing power of nature. It is simple, go to a forested area and wander. Soak in the beauty. Stop and enjoy the moment whenever you see, hear or smell something interesting. Related practices include “walking meditation” and “random scoot.”
In Japan, this practice is called Shinrin-Yoku or forest bathing. Think of it as bathing in the whole experience of the forest. Turn off your cell-phone and refrain from talking, if you go with others.
Research in Japan demonstrates that Forest Bathing increases energy, lowers blood pressure, increases your ability to focus and improves your immune system. There are many scientific explanations for these benefits; for example, essential oils and antimicrobial organic compounds are released from the vegetation. Microbes in the soil cause your body to produce antidepressants.

I love that term Forest bath. I guess that is what it feels like when you go explore nature. God is so good, his creation is so wonderful. It is soothing and relaxing
Yes, God is so go and his crating is so wonderful. Thanks for watching and commenting, my friend. ...ken
Not Matt here, but his partner of 16 years. I was fearless in the woods as a younger woman, but not so much now. I grew up in the wild, green areas of Oregon by the great rivers there and had a loving grandmother who allowed me to bring home wild animals, ducks etc. that I managed to catch (only six years old at the time), yet she always made me release them. She would say, "They are wild creatures. How would you like to be captured and made to live in a crazy way? Put it back, darling." Aren't we all living in a crazy way now? At least in urban life?I had an incredibly stressful night. My neighbor was beaten up by her partner and showed up at our home with the photographs. She thanked me for calling the police. I hardly slept last night. The "virtual tour" in your video helped me so much. And, now, I'm off to do some sea and forest bathing. Is there a Wild Craft Group or a Woodsman/woman School and Guide service in Ventura County , CA or vicinity? I'd love to make a forest tea, but not to poison myself.
Thanks for sharing your story. People sometimes do terrible things to each other. The forest is my retreat and a place for reflection; deep peace. Be careful what you use to make tea; some plants that look similar to what I picked are poison ...
Just got back from a 7 day camping canoeing trip from the BWCA today. A friend of mine didn't make the trip fun and relaxing. He brought all the stress from the city life with him. Your video is extremely helpful. Thank you.
Thank you for watching and commenting. It means a lot to me. In a few minutes, my son and I are leaving for a 3-day father's day weekend camping trip. We are leaving tap the stress from city life. ... ken
Thank you for your reply. I enjoy every single one of your videos. Have a wonderful time with your son and have a safe trip. Happy Father's Day to you.
A challenge of sorts for you Ken. On a future outing, do your cooking and food storage and transportation without any plastic bags or utensils. How did guys like Daniel Boone and Kit Carson get by for days and weeks out in the wild back in their day?
another great video Ken, what a relaxing way to be, its alway amazing how much good energy mother nature gives to us if we are open for it, thanks for sharing my friend, have a great weekend, Taro
Thanks for watching and taking time to comment Taro. You too have a great weekend. ...ken
Aww, I like seeing lil Teddy Bear in your videos, and nice tribute to President Roosevelt for all of his work.
Awesome filming with your nature bathing, really lovely and I enjoyed your historical and cultural information. Thank you for sharing this beautiful video. All the best, Stella
Thanks Stella. Have a good weekend, my friend. ...ken
I typically will go out to a park, 5 minutes away that is mostly forest with a reservoir in the center, and play guitar on one of the rocks that are on the sides of the body of water.
It's a lot better than playing in front of my computer where I'd tend to get distracted with it right in front of me (although 90% of what ive learned on guitar has been through the internet)
But other than the better environment, you sort of have an audience to play to rather than just be inside playing into the walls.
Even if no one is really on the trails or fishing, for some reason I feel like im playing for the nature around me. So it's a really nice way to get experience with playing to an audience, which can be nervous for some beginner musicians.
Also where I typically sit is a bird that get's pissed off since he/she has a nest just above in the tree next to the rock (i noticed it was made of some fishing line, since a lot of fishers leave some cut line around... clever huh) It makes some irritating sounds (trying to scare me off) but also some pleasant ones. I think it learns by now that no one's interested in eating the chicks inside.
What a wonderful place to play guitar. Take care my friend and have a wonderful weekend. ....ken
Excellent Video Ken I feel more relaxed just watching your adventure. Thank you again for the work you do.
You're welcome Kat. ...ken
Hi Ken! That's one of the best hammocks I've seen. Theodore Roosevelt loved nature and we can attribute many famous parks to him. He also kept the industrialist from ruining America. Years ago my Yoga teacher would take us to the foothills of the blue ridge where we meditated and exercised in peace. Have fun and don't forget your breathing exercises.
Thanks for watching and commenting disco 07. Yoga is very helpful, and I am learning. As you say, breathing exercises provide in important foundation. ...ken

Nice one kenneth. Im on my way to the woods to have my prescription filled. Atb from neil in scotland.
Yes Niel, have your prescription filled from the woods in scotland. ..ken
Strange lights in the middle of the night. Great video, Ken
Lights are from the nearby city. Notice the Big Dipper? Polaris, the north star?
I live in the Pacific Northwest near Cape Disappointment in Washington and there are lots of hiking and camping areas with big trees like Cedar, Spruce and Douglas Fir nearby. What I love most about being in the forest is the color, the green does something magical to me, the color green in nature is so healing. If you can, see the film "Grounded" on TH-cam about Earthing because I think you will enjoy it. Thanks for the video!
Hi Caryn. Thanks for watching and commenting. I'll check out the "Grounded." Sounds like an awesome film. Take care, my friend. ...ken
hi bear and Ken.... looks like you two had a great time. Hey Ken I think that squirrel wink at me. You better be careful I think he's planning something.. you know you have to watch out for those ninja squirrels.... cool you were using the ultimate hiking staff. Did you get a chance to use the torch?.. that tea sure looks good... I'm almost out of mine. Yep I've been drinking it. :-) I think I will take your advice and have a forest bath tomorrow. I'm hoping a rain storm will blow it while I'm out there. Another excellent video Ken. I enjoyed viewing it.
Yes Bob, that squirrel did wink at you. She probably was telling you to not trust me..... wink, wink... Yes, take a forest bath at least once each day (mid week is good). And if you want to really feel refreshed, take a forest bath every day. YES. you never can be too clean. Take care my friend. Happy trails. ....ken
Bob and ken, love the videos. I would love to join you all on the ozark trail some time....and I'll bring a map too...just in case.
that's great, I can smell the trees.
Yes. So can I Kyse, but I have pine sap on my clothing.... take care, ken
I know I always feel better after a walk in the woods.. I didn't know there was a scientific reason for it though...
Great video as ever Ken...always relaxing ..
Take care...
mark
Speed the word mark, swalk in the woods. Have a good weekend my friend. ...ken
Your the best.
Thanks Kat. I'm blushing.... ken
Thank you for the video sir. The lake look like Serepok River in Dak Lak, Viet Nam, where I am living.
a360 video would have been so cool nice video thanks
You're welcome. ....ken
Lovely video as always. The knife you were using looked familiar.... a Jacklore?
Pre-production Jacklore.; the 5th knife that Sandy made. It was tempered in the home oven. It is a fantastic knife. I made a video where I shaved with the knife..
Wonderful, relaxing and informative.
Thanks again for such a thoughtful video Kenn.
Safe travels
Thom
You're welcome Thom. Have a pleasant and safe weekend my friend. ...ken
How true this is about being out in nature. Because of your video Kenneth I am going to go backpacking this weekend even though I was going to cancel. But because of your video I realize it's exactly what I need to do is go backpacking. Ps I am a huge fan of Teddy Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan my commander and Chief. I walls wondered why you carried that bear.
Now you know about the bear... ken
Ken, loved the peaceful video. Question: In all your video's I don't think you have run onto another hiker. Ive never found that seclusion myself in TX, its always crowded. How do you do it buddy??
I try to go to places that have few people. Also, I only include videos with other people (who can be recognized) if they have said it's ok. No children are included unless their parents have signed a release.
Oh yes my brother I also do this ,I should also make some videos
Peace
Take care my friend. Have a wonderful weekend. ...ken
Oh man, thats what I need right now. To get away and bath in some nature, thanks Ken for the video. Curious to wye doctors don't prescribe forest bathing, seems to be the perfect prescription...bill
Many doctors in our area prescribe forest bathing. Under doctor's prescriptions, several of us Texas Master Naturalist volunteers lead folks on forest bathing experiences at WG Jones State Forest.
Being outdoors........ A very addictive medicinal thing for me! I always feel cleansed after spending time outdoors, but my family always says I stink when I come home.... What's up with that ;-) Was that the hammock from Bill? Looked pretty comfortable!!!!
My wife also say I stink when I came home; so the first thing I do is to take a quick shower; or if I am in a location with showers; I take a shower at the campsite and change cloths; Deb says she appreciated it. .... Yes, the hammock was custom made by Bill. Best hammock I've ever slept in. . ...ken
Hi, Ken--Is that Huntsville SP?
Yes. You recognize the trails... big smile.... ken
Ken what camera do you use. I am wanted to video some of my adventurers and and looking for a good camera. I don't want ot go through buy one and not liking it.
Hi Toney. Depending on the scene, I use one of three different cameras: Canon Vixia HF G30, iPhone 6+ or GoPro HERO4 Silver. The cameras I use in each video are listed at the bottom of the narrative Enjoy making videos. ...ken
Thanks
What kind of leaves did you make tea with ? I was not able to catch the name.
Yaupon
Uum, that is a big gator, Do they go far up on land? Or do they mostly stay by the water? I sure hope that squirrle does not venture to close to that water.
Usually they go only a few feet; primary to warm up. Any animal that ventures close to the water is potential alligator food.... The squirrels in this area are smart and stay away from gators.....ken
Where was this ken?
Huntsville State Park, Tx
what dose the tea tast like
green tea if brewed weak. If it is brewed strong (boiled like the native americans did) it taste like strong black tea. pleasant; very nice ....ken
+KennethKramm thanks
You sound like Cody lundin
I've heard that before. ....ken
+KennethKramm I love nature by the way it's very relaxing I get up at 5 in the morning and go swimming it helps my spirit:) Great Vids :)
