To darken the background wouldn't it have been easier to create the curves adjustment, copy the mask from the group apply it to the 2nd curve adjustment then invert it. Saves having to repaint the mask.

You are correct. It hadn't occurred to me. It only took five seconds to paint the mask for the background so that's probably why I didn't consider easier alternatives. I also wanted to outline the difference between a mask and an empty mask. But thanks! something to mention in a future video. Cheers.

Thanks Bill. I'm making slow progress with masks, but its progress. So much to learn. One day I will take a look at 'groups' and other layer tricks 🥴🙂

Also, Bill, I meant to ask, do you think the upgrade from Affinity Photo ver. 1 to ver. 2 is worth it? I think the offer is on for a few more hours. Comes in at £71.99 to upgrade (for the suite, I believe)

I would update to version 2. I think it's worth it. If you're using the whole suite then that's a pretty good deal. Otherwise I would just update Affinity Photo.

You're welcome! Best to practice with simple examples until it's crystal clear. Yeah, good idea. Save groups for later. 😆

@@billblakely Thanks for your input. I do have the whole suite of v1 but really only use Photo (as you can imagine lol) But yes, for the price, the upgrade is very tempting.
