Today we take on our third challenge of the series and attempt to drive a nail at 100 yards with the CZ 457 VPT MTR.
Wind conditions make it a hard shot but we are able to overcome the conditions and make the shot.
Let us know what we should try next in the comments below.

Glue 10 life savers to a paper, move back to the 50 yard line & see if you can put a round through the life saver without breaking it. That hole in the white life savers is .287". This is a tough challenge.

You nailed it! 😁 I feel special that you used my idea. I have another one for you to appeal to the old graybeards like me. Necco wafers. With your rifle I guess it would have to be at 200yds, but there are few reactive 22 targets as old as Necco wafers.

We shoot .22 into a board one shot per target then we put rejects, sorted, ammo that failed to fire and or bulk ammo in the holes and shoot them at 100meters for a reactive target. We use rigs with silencers though so the sound report of a successful hit is much more noticed.

    • @ianklauss151
      @ianklauss151 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I've used cheap 12g shot shells as reactive targets, at a safe distance. Use a 1" wood auger bit in a chordless drill, to make a hole in a block of wood you want to split. ;)

I believe you would have NAILED it on the second shot if you would not have held for the wind. I got my CZ 457 varmint MTR and shot it today. I was getting half inch groups @ 50 yards. I was able to get all the pretravel out of the trigger but the lowest it would go on the #'s is 2 pounds but it is consistant and repeteable. It really don't feel like 2 pounds maybe a pound. It is a crisp break like glass. I have 15,000 rounds, three different lots of 5,000 round cases of the old Wolf Match Target made by Lapua/SK from 8 years ago when I shot Sportsman class with my Anschutz 1416-d Classic. Are these rifles you are using in your videos chambered in 'match' chambers or just the standard 22lr sporting chambers? (I believe there is another chambering called bentz chamber for auto loaders, kinda in the middle of two?)
I am asking this, because for best accuracy, the smaller diameter heel section of a 22lr bullet is also meant to expand and engage in the rifling, essential for stabilization, only possible in tight match chambers because of the increased pressure, since the bullet has no free bore ahead of it and chamber is smaller in diameter also...
Maybe you can try 'soft catching' bullets fired out of these rifles and check if the heel portion is expanding and engaging the rifling completely?
I believe consistent quarter inch and smaller groups are possible only by expanding and engaging the heel (thus making a uniform size projectile) and flat nose of the eley bullets also helps to decrease yaw and tilting into side winds

Please, please Michael doe just do a little research before coming onto, probably YT best .22lr channel and boring us half to death with your pseudo knowledge and superior attitude. Best accuracy is not achieved by a scientific understanding of metallurgy or ballistics, although basic knowledge is a help, it’s achieved by a half decent firearm and someone behind it who can shoot…….like Josh😡 and yes it was me who gave this post a thumbs down!

Michael. Yes most of the rifles on the channel are match chamber rifles with the exception of a few odd outliers like the semi autos etc.
The Bentz is a chamber in between a regular sporter (shoot everything) chamber and the Match chamber (shorter than traditional and smallest).
The rimfire world is so crazy about chambers most manufacturers and/or barrel makers currently are designing chambers around either Eley or Lapua currently. As an example: lilja cuts chambers for Eley and factory barrels on vudoo (typically made by a few different barrel makers under contract) are chambered for Lapua.
I believe almost every match rifle we have on the channel is capable of shooting 0.1" CTC groups in a perfect scenario. It's the combination of the shooter, stock, environmentals, ammunition, and the countless other variables that drive the groups larger.
I think even a rifle that can shoot a quarter inch at 100 yards in perfect conditions would likely be a half inch gun to most people. A lot of us still believe, naively, that the rifle is the problem when our accuracy isn't where we expect it to be.
I say that under the pretense that we are talking about a quality rifle, free of defects, with a quality match barrel, and a feeding system capable of delivering the bullet to the chamber in good to perfect condition.
I think everything more than the rifle I describe above is money spent based on preference, either for a trainer like experience, craftmanship qualities, etc etc etc.
Just my .02 cents on the subject. I don't want to pretend to know everything, because I simply do not. I am learning every day I pull the trigger on these rifles and these are just my personal experiences and what I have seen to be common.
      Josh
