I guess I got lucky with my 457 Franken-build - started with a 457 American that easily did 0.3" at 50 using Eley Standard, put in a take-off Varmint (non-MTR) CZ OEM barrel and an MTR stock and with SK Standard+ at 50 it's a 0.2" MAXIMUM grouper (Leupold 12x), and at 100 using same it's 0.4" without problems (using a bog-standard Harris bipod - definitely no Ransome rest here!). That was my third Franken build - prior 2 used "Match" MTR barrels and wasn't thrilled. This bog-standard Varmint take off on the other hand is phenomenal. Total cost? $250 including second hand stock and barrel from the LGS. And the fact it LOVES SK Standard+ is a massive bonus.
Hello, Josh... been awhile since I made a comment on your channel, though I do watch it. I would like to share my most recent enlightenment. Using a scope on a CZ 457 at 50 yards, I discovered how to shrink by tight groups even further. I have found it difficult to focus on the reticle while maintaining in the background awareness of where my aim point is. I have found that using the "T" reticle mark works for much tighter groups with ease. I align the horizontal part of the "T" under the aim point and use the vertical part to align the left/right aim. This method has eased my effort to focus on the reticle while being aware of where the aim point is resulting in MUCH tighter groups with ease.
Thanks for sharing you're knowledge Josh, always look forward to to your video's. When you purchase a new barrel are you looking for a certain inside bore diameter, says 0.217 by 0.222 and if so what lands and grooves are you looking for, if any ? I was also wondering what chamber dimensions are you running ? Thanks again for all your help, Dave
Haha that's what happens when you only have a couple boxes of a particular lot. For my RimX I bought just a few of some random lots of ammo and just before I was checking out I added 1 box of x act. Due to price. I kind of forgot about it for a while then I brought it out when I was getting low on ammo and said let see. Truly hoping it didn't shoot good due to $$$. Well it shot stupid amazing. Basically like you last string without that one where you had some vertical stringing. It was .1 - .2. For whole box. I was actually upset as I am not buying that ammo for that price. But thankfully center x. Does the same thing. But I know how you feel when you don't have anymore of that great ammo. Sucks. But I have a spot for lapue in Ohio for testing coming in the fall. So I'll get all this hammered out. Great video
I’ve been very happy with the Eley Match. I’ve been sticking with a Eley Match and Eley Tenex. I default to Wolf Match Extra for casual shooting. I should mention I’m using a Tikia T1X and And Anschutz Model 64
Boy I am glad I saw your test. I bought a 24x1 inch last month and was disappointed with the performance of several ammos including TENEX. Oddly it was the cheaper Eley Match that consistently shot in the .2 area. SK LRM is next best. Mine is in a KRG Bravo and I just installed a Jard trigger. Once I get this dialed in I may part with my RimX and just shoot the CZ
The new Lilja barrel on my 457 hasn't had enough ammo testing yet. The factory barrel shot SK Standard well, and the Lilja barrel seems to like it. It also liked the SK match target. I have 4 or 5 lots of Standard to try and maybe 2 or 3 of the Match Target. This may have to happen closer to the fall season, seeing it is 108⁰ - 110⁰ almost every day here in Las Vegas. Haven't tried the Eley Team much yet, I have a few thousand rounds of that for my 10/22. I'll be watching to see how yours performs.
Good informative video Josh. Thanks. I am interested in the Lilja for my 457. I shoot mostly BR. As others have said, I see only 18 and 21 inches on the website. Do you have to special order the 26 inch barrel? Is there an advantage in 26 versus 21 for BR shooting?
Hey Josh. Awesome video! Please put that barrel action setup into an MDT ACC Premier. I'd love to see how well that balances in that chassis. Also, isn't the 26" a touch too long for PR22/NRL22 - especially maneuvering through and around props? Would a 24" not be the happy medium instead?
It's going into the gen 2 premier once I have it. 26" isn't too bad for nrl. Most the props now are open props with minimal ports. I run 24-26" barrels quite often
Hay Josh what shims do refer with the lilja same all you rifles shoot well do you run the same shim in all you barrels if so what do you use Thanks great videos
Josh I had everything marlin made back in the day. From semiautomatics tube fed mag fed same with the bolts. They all shot lights out with cci mini mag, could it be the 16 micro groove barrels. What's your thoughts
This is the first time I’ve wanted a Lilja barrel - wow! You were like Elijah on that last string - I kept screaming at my phone - stop talking mid group!!! 😂😂😂
Any issues with the 457 action suspending these long heavy Barrels? Has anyone in the comments section ever seen the weight leveraged on that action become a problem? Any gunsmiths out there? CZ corporate… do you have any comment about this?
I've wondered that as well, I'd imagine this is getting close to the max amount you'd want to put on the stock tennon and grub screw setup. Shoots good tho.
I went to the Lilja website, there is no 1-inch offering. .900" X 18" and .900" X 21". Waiting for my CZ457 Varmint MTR to show up. I'll see how it goes stock, but I'm gonna want some options.
I’ll say it again….26” is WAY TOO LONG for the CZ ACTION!! It’s just not strong enough…not to mention having tenon screws and not being threaded. 21-22” max on a heavy barrel. Seen it over and over. The top Smith’s will tell you the same thing. If the action was strong enough then the benchrest guys would be threading and using CZ actions for unlimited class.
@@dcs27006 lots of smiths now offering heavy barrel cz barrels. I've had my custom cz with a long heavy barrel for quite a while now. It's been good to go. No signs of any issues
@@PursuitofAccuracy heavy barrel is ok Anything past 22” just doesn’t work well. With that being said yes it will shoot…but a properly lapped 21-22” barrel will out shoot. Constantly bringing it Josh. Thanks brother. We appreciate you. (Love the - "got it zeroed so I don't shoot my camera" dry humor)
I'm sold. Seems like the perfect drop-in barrel for NRL and PRS. Great video and product review.
My home built 10/22 with a KIDD 16.5" SS bull .920 barrel really likes the Precision/Outlaw Eley stuff ..... Nice video Josh as always.
