loved your video!! not gonna spoil any of the later songs in case you haven't listened yet, but i actually interpret the "family secret" in family tree as Ethel admitting (or possibly remembering after having blocked out the traumatic memory) that she had a role to play in her father's death. he died in a fire when she was 10 so it wouldn't be completely impossible for her to have set fire to a building that then trapped and killed him. my reasoning is the lines "I've killed before and I'll kill again, take the noose off wrap it tight around my hand" insinuating that she's using a noose as a weapon, and where was a hanging mentioned before?? in the intro "Swinging by my neck from the family tree." also the line "Christ forgive these bones I've been hiding" could allude to it as well, though i think it also has multiple kinda meanings. oh plus the whole song is about the washing away of sin, and while there have been countless sins committed against her that she would understandably want to "clean" herself of, she could also be referencing the biggest sin she (may have) committed, the murder of her own father. there's also some lines in later songs that i personally think allude to this as well, but that's for another time!!
