As a 68 year old who is a new subscriber AND a new photographer trying to learn some of the art and find some good equipment, I want to say I really value your reviews and your narrative on photography. I appreciate the fact that you back them up with the downloadable files you offer. I inherited a D70S from my late photographer/sister, picked it up one day, caught the bug, and now I'm trying to sort out my next steps on equipment and education; your videos really help.

Super detailed and thorough review. I can't believe this level of quality (HD, Drone shots, Full Res jpgs, multiple cameras/go pro view) is *free* on TH-cam - very comprehensive. I'm sure an insane amount of effort went into this production. Great job Jared (and team)!

I think you wanna buy this cam if you are shooting sports and nature. If I wanna get best results in portrait photography, I think I'd to take a full frame body. But, still interesting to see it above iso 4000.. But- as he said, the D(n). - Bodies are in their own iso-league..

From 5:54 onwards, the autofocus points are evenly spaced and fills almost the entire frame. This is all I need and points should be spaced evenly in such configurations so that we can get to the areas in the frame to focus. No other placements and gimmicks. Finally the camera manufacturers understands.

For wildlife, real deal fast shooting like hummingbirds, or the real fast sports action this is the very best camera on the market even today on April 2020. The autofocus of the D500 is perfect. There is nothing like this on the market. If you work with real fast action buy the camera and be happy! Don't bother yourself with the mirrorless mania, full frame things... Buy the right lenses and the D500 will deliver every time when you most need it. Portraits, shows, concerts, studio work are too easy for this camera.

Fro, I just got back from shooting a Golf Tourny on memorial day. One recommendation I have is get in front when driving, I mean really in-front. I typically shoot about 20 feet in front and 7 to the side. Yes i'm at risk, but you get some really nice shots. I shoot full frame with a 70-200 for tee shots. Also with my silent shoot mode, I get the back-swing as well.

Finally a serious Nikon body that doesn't cost as much as the D5 does. I am most probably getting one later this year and honestly would be doing the same even if the D750 was coming out now - maybe the AF is the biggest selling point for me. Edge to edge coverage? Cross type points at the farthest left and right of the frame? F**k yeah, even the top end of the previous generation bodies didn't have that. Maybe the lack of a built-in flash is a bit of a let-down (I'd love to have one for off-camera flash control), but it's understandable from Nikon's point of view - they want to push the sales of the SB-5000 and the wireless controller.

Hi man! First, let me say your videos are incredible and I've been binge wachting your whole channel! But let me ask you something. I'm into portraiture and leaving my Canon T6 for a new system. Eventually I do landscape and some video, just for fun. I am trying to decide between Fuji X-T2 and Nikon D500. Honestly, I am leaning towards Fuji. But it feels like every time I think I've made my decision and I'm reaching out my arm to get it, I read some opinion like "the D500 low light performance is better" or "Nikon's focus system is amazing" and automatically take a step back. My plan is to pick the body and one or two primes, like 35mm and 50mm. Which one do you think I should get?

One of the biggest things I hate about photography is the marketing lingo. "Pro" and "Flagship" cameras are just that to people until the next one comes out. Then they're semi pro or amateur. All of it is marketing for the camera companies and something for owners of said cameras to tell others in order to boost their own egos.
The pros, semi-pros and amateurs are the ones BEHIND the camera, doesn't matter what you shoot.
I do have a d500 btw. It's a camera with some nice features.

Fro, did you test the D500's fps in low-light on RAW? I purchased a refurb last week, and I noticed while shooting batting practice at dusk in AF continuous, it begins to slow down a bit. I assumed that it had something to do with the AF locking on. I'm sure you may be able to clarify. I was shooting in manual RAW with a Lexar 128GB Professional UHS-I SDXC Memory Card (U1). Could the card be the issue? Could it be because I'm shooting in RAW? Thanks in advance, homie!

Hey Jared, with you saying it's the best "all-around," I'm curious if you feel this is a camera worthy of things like weddings or landscape. It seems like it's geared more toward sports/wildlife (improved shutter speed for crop sensor, etc). Your thoughts?

I love these reviews. A review should be done when working with it, not just some test charts photos, to really see what's good and what's not.
    Great channel!

Hi Jared, thank you for providing such great videos about photography. You've been my "guide" into the world of photography since 2011. I want to ask you something.
I have a rebel T3i, which is getting really old and it's giving me some troubles. I have a nice budget (around 1500€, 1600$) and I'd like to do a lot of things, but of course I can't. I thought about replacing my old rebel T3i with a newer 7D mark II or 6D, which are getting quite cheap. Now the main problem is that my lens setup is not so great. I have a 24mm EF-S f/2.8 STM that I love, the classic 50mm 1.8 and the samyang 85mm 1.4. I really need some advice. Should I buy a new camera (and if yes, which one between the two) or should I invest more on lenses (I was thinking to a 50 1.4 and a 70-200 f4)?
    Thanks for the answers!

Getting better with each review Fro,m Keep it up! About your comment that the D500 won't match the quality of the D5, I just don't find that to be true. In fact, I recently just sold my D5 for a D500 because I was unhappy with some of the dynamic range and the AA filter was really reducing some of that sharpness I love. I would argue they are both pretty equal. With each having a few strengths over the other. The D5 for anything ISO 2500 and up, the D500 for that extra DX reach and better low ISO images.

The D5 smashes the D500 into the ground all day any day. The "dynamic range" bitching that DPreview started is nitpicking at best. The D500 is no a D5 replacement in any way shape or form.

Hi Jared, which of the Nikkor lenses would you say are the sharpest from those you've tested on the D500? I will be adding the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II shortly, and I have the 200-500mm f/5.6 VR too.
A list of lenses that you used in this shoot would be great too. Also, is that a fro'd custom ThinkTank Retrospective 30?

Great review. How did PJ feel about his shots? I think a lot of customers especially females would object to the accentuation of facial defects by the contrast settings.

I'm looking to transition into Real Estate photography and landscape with the occasional nature or action shot or two in there. Would you still recommend the D500 as the prices come down or would you recommend the D750/D810 or something else? Thank you in advance!

Would you recommend this for a starter? Or one of the canons? Anything to look at would be appreciated

Easily one of the best videos you have made to date. Great review as always. I seriously don't understand why you got so many thumbs down already. The internet turns people into fucking trolls. Good shit bro.

Is the D500 with 16-80mm good for indoor (weddings) photography as well as outdoor? I'm considering to spend around $2,200 for a new camara, thinking of either the D7500 or the D500. I do mostly events and sometimes pics outdoor. Thanks for this wonderful review.
