Tony. In your great review of the D500, you mention how the lens VR jumps around when you shoot. I had the same issue with mine and it is in the deign. After reading a lot about VR, I learned two things. One is if you have enough shutter speed to not need the VR, turn it off. Two is if you set the lens to Sport, it does not do that jumping around. Also I have learned to use rear button focus and if I have it on regular VR on a non moving subject, to focus then remove your thumb from the AF On so it will not refocus when it moves. Wen I first went out with the lens I got a good number of blurry shots from the sensor moving around and focusing on something I did not want. These things has stopped that. Just thought I would pass it on. Thanks for all your hard work. I enjoy your information and technical info as well. Ignore the people who say nothing but negative stuff. You all are doing a great job. Keep it going. God bless.

Tony & Chelsea - Thank you for your efforts. This is a lot of work for not much reward and it takes a massive amount of time to do exhaustive reviews and comparisons. But it sure doesn't take much time or effort for a viewer to make a negative or hurtful comment. By the way, your history of Nikon was really good. I hope you will do the same for other companies. Really interesting content. Thanks again.

The D500 is pretty badass. I shoot Canon, but the D750 and D500 combo would totally cover most professional needs. I'm most impressed by the fact the camera isn't castrated and features WiFi and the touchscreen/tilt screen we all truly want deep down inside. Canon COULD have included more in the 7D2 when they released it and didn't. It appears that Nikon learned from the mistakes of its competitor and released this beast.

Let's hope Canon do as Nikon did with the D500 when they release a new 5D camera. Want full frame goodness in that smaller body. 1DX is just too big and cumbersome for my needs.

I did not upgrade to the 7Dii from my 7D as I feel there was not enough features to warrant me to spend £1400 on something not that much of an improvement over the original.

Tony, I love how much you constantly pay attention to and critique the ergonomics of cameras. Not many reviewers are as sensitive as you. For instance, your suggestion to change the focus point with just a swipe of your finger across the back screen (instead of the joy stick) makes perfect sense. It's so frustrating in the age of smart phones and sophisticated touch screens that this technology in cameras is moving along at a snails pace. Not without its share of problems, the Leica T has made the most progress in this area. Nikon and Canon are 10 years behind.
Also, other reviews have concluded that the ISO capabilities of the D750 and D500 are very similar. APSC's are getting close to full-frame. However, you said the D750's ISO capabilities are twice that of the D500? Would you please do a side-by-side comparison? Pretty please? : )

+Tony Northrup the D500's A7 menu setting allows you to limit the number of AF points that are selectable with the thumbstick. It's not the feature upgrade you requested - which would be a nice upgrade, by the way - but does make scrolling through and selecting an AF point a quicker process.

Hey Tony and Chelsea, great video, I really appreciate all the time, effort, and specific detail you guys put into your work. I just have a question hoping you guys can help me and maybe others. I want to get the D500 primarily for sports, however im not sure what lens would fit the job. Is it possible of you can tell us the lens you used specifically for the Auto Focus test? I read in your book you recommended the Tamron/nikon 70-200 2.8 lens but my worry is the Tamron being slow and i believe both the lens don't truly have a full 200mm. Is that something i should even worry about or not? Whats your guys opinion? Oh and this might be asking to much but a budget over $2500 isnt possible for me /:
Again thank you for your time and support, awesome videos/books!

Hi Tony! Great Review as always. My question is a little off topic. I have a Nikon D7100. Which lens do you raccomend now for wildlife (especially birdlife) from 300-400$ to 900$? Stabilitazion and brightness is important but i prefer to put the quality as the first option. Even "old" lens. I already saw your video that talked about this, but the Tamron 150-600 does not convince me at all. Thank you! :) Have a nice day :)

    Hi Tony and Chelsea,
I'm new to cameras and the new Nikon D500, I plan i buying this model for my first quality camera.
There are a couple of options out there and I would like your opinion on lens choices as part of a kit offer. the Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR AF-P DX NIKKOR Zoom Lens,
or the Nikon 16-80 AF-S DX ED VR Lens Kit.
Or would you recommend buying just the camera body and getting a different lens separately.
    Thanks Tim.

I leaning toward the Nikon 200-500, but Sigma and Tamron has some nice offerings. I find the new Tamron 150-600 G2 especially interesting and like to see how it compares to the Nikon 200-500.

Tony I believe you addressed this in another video, and I apologize. Feel free to send me there, but quick question. (it came to mind when you showed the headshots of Chelsea in this video) - full frame lenses are NOT as sharp on APS-C as they are on full frame, even though they can be adapted, and even if the center is the most sharpest. My question is, what if you use a focal reducer? Does that negate the disadvantages? (manufacturing quality control aside, of course)

I see the ISO capabilities, fast AF (even though Im thinking about using Zone focusing and manual lenses) and nice IQ as my main requirments. Would I be totally wrong of using this as a street camera? (I own a D800E that fullfill my FF, LOTS of MPixel and sharpness wantings) Cheers!

As you guys have been doing this a while, do you notice when a camera comes along and smashes my lovely 7DM2 that enough people hop over to brands that it is likely to drive down used prices? Should I think of this as a great buying opportunity for a bargain basement Canon 100-400ii?

Can't wait for your nikon wildlife lenses test. I recently borrowed the 200-500mm 5.6 and I absolutely loved it. But since I don't have any comparison I would love to see your review before I put it on this years christmas wishlist.

Love it! Thank you for the review. Question: Are either of you considering changing to the D500 for wildlife or sports?
Suggestion: Can you please include a quick recap of your feelings about the best uses for the camera in your summary at the end of the video like "We found this camera/lens is great for wildlife and sports, good for portraits, Ok for Landscapes and videos." I was thinking Overall the A rating system to include at the end of your camera/ lens youtube reviews and as a section on the website. You would score the cameras with a rating for Wildlife, Sports, Landscapes, Portraits, Video, and overall features and assign a number score for each category based on a maximum of 5 points. For example the D500 might score a Wildlife 5, Sports 4.5, Landscapes 3, Portraits 3.5, Video 3.5 and Overall Features 4.5. The rating system would be opinion based on how much you enjoyed using the camera and the results for each type of photography not a scientific score based on stats. I'm probably over thinking this and it would be more work for you all lol. Thank you again for all the great content!

Excellent review. Thanks for the good balanced info. Side note: which each video Chelsea es becoming more and more confident as a model, and that allow her to play to her better strengths: stunning. Will you talk about the interesting light configuration that you are using for the portraits ?

How did you perform the AF tests? More specifically, what was set (at least on the Nikon ones) for AF-C Priority?

Great video, thanks. So for landscapes and shooting at indoor shops, flea markets, would the d750 be a better choice over the d500? Thanks again.

Oh yeah, I also shoot 90% of my work at low ISO, 100 through 1000.

For weddings, would you recommend the D750 over the D500? or do you still think the D500 is a better camera overall? Thanks

Although I sub to differing channels on TH-cam for photography. This is the only place I go for detailed -- real-world stuff I want. In order to have all of these things asked, and answered in ways.. I myself would do them. And I'm certainly not going out to 20 day purchase all of this gear just to have a look.
So, although not a pixel peeper. I do like to have the real deal on those details when I look for it. Tony always delivers.
Thanks for all you do Tony.. And just to add.. I cancelled the D5 orders and stuck with the D4s models. The price gap vs. pay back just wasn't a justified move at this time with all the differences in costs between feature sets

Hey Tony, great review. I love your channel. Thanks for doing what you do! How does the weather sealing, if any, compare to the Canon 7d2? I was close to upgrading my ancient 7d Mk1 to the 7d2, but after this review, I'm contemplating switching to Nikon beginning with this body (my Canon glass needs some updating too, so that investment isn't so important). I wouldn't hesitate to shoot in the rain with a Canon 7d2 and any L series lens. Could I have the same confidence with Nikon? Thanks!

I agree. This is a lot of work for not much reward and it takes a massive amount of time to do exhaustive reviews and comparisons. And, it sure doesn't take a viewer much time or effort to make a negative or hurtful comment.

Hello Tony, this D500 is not for me, but I wish to have SnapBridge and Touch screen in my A7II. And my question is, what more can Nikon give to the customers in future products ? More MP ? More focus points ? If I will invest 10T in this camera and lenses and than Nikon will bring new camera with only 24MP and 20! focus points more, than I do not know if it will be worth to upgrade. It seems the next step must be out of mirror or what do you thing ?

I don't know if this is of general interest, but my only DSLR is a Nikon D90. I've got the 50mm equivalent F1.8 Nikon prime and the 70-300 (?) Nikon zoom. The sharpness is nothing like what you get. What is the best way to get the most out of my camera for general candid and landscape shooting? How often should I send it in for tune ups? If. I want to upgrade for under $1000, what are the recommendations. (I'm really interested in video capability with external mic plug in.). Thanks.

Can you tell me the advantage or disadvantage of getting a D750 and using it in crop mode for wildlife shots and reg mode for things like macro shots, landscape, and portraits versus getting a D500

When it comes to changing the focus point with the finger on the screen when looking through the viewfinder, it is possible for the D5600. Are you sure the D500 is missing this feature?
