    We've been full time for 3 years and every time we talk to someone with an Apple phone they are envious of my spouse and myself being able to wirelessly cast our Android phones to the TV. Granted we use a smart TV but we use 70-100gb of data from 2 of our phones in order to stream directly with no wires. It's definitely one time when I'm glad that we don't have an iPhone. Just saying it's been easy for us for years now. Love your videos for 3 years now.

    As a TV engineer and just someone with common sense, I don't see why people put up with streaming. It's the pits. DVRs have been around for 20 years now, and there's no technological reason why one can't download video as files to watch later. Time-shifting is awesome! I have 2 TiVo boxes at home recording every show I might possibly want to watch. When I go on the road I fill up a USB drive with entire seasons of shows, movies and more. I watch on _my_ schedule, and because they're files I need _no_ Internet connection. You can DVR shows on the road too. Though it takes a little more work to program one using only PSIP data, OTA DVRs are inexpensive and most record in standard MPEG Transport Stream (.ts) files that can be read by a computer or smart TV.

      If watching OTR television suits your needs... cool. Personally, we've not watched OTR in over 20 years :D. And many are similar. We stream pretty much exclusively - Netflix, TH-cam, Hulu. And we do it quite successfully over mobile internet options.

    Interesting that you say you are handing off to your Chromecast so you are actually streaming from that device, BUT I have downloaded movies from my library back when I had slow broadband and THEN cast them to Chromecast and that was the only way to get a smooth playback and be able to stop and start and review a section with a Hoopla library movie, so it seems to me that Chromecast is versatile and CAN pull from a mobile device with previously downloaded data rather than internet. So, I have questions that nobody online seems to be answering. If you download a movie first you can cast it in tethering/mobile hotspot to a chromecast set up for that WAN (wide area network), but what if you have a LAN (local area network) setup either through a travel router attached to you mobile cell device OR you have another "off-grid" laptop plugged into a router as a server and you have all your devices set up for that network. Can you then cast previously downloaded video and personal photos and videos that exist on the phone without access to internet at the time of casting? Also do you at least save on tethering/mobile hot spots gig allocations by having a previously downloaded movie?

  • @ProGamusian
    @ProGamusian 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the best setup is using an HDMI and connecting the phone / tablet to the TV. That way you can use on device data, add a mouse / wireless keyboard and do everything right off the phone or tablet.

    Just my luck - lol. Last week we purchased a Verizon jetpack 8800, based on reviews about how good it is. Well, it worked great for about 18 hrs at which time it throttled back to just 600 kbps. Now I just get buffering... I was made aware that their unlimited data plan did this at about 30 Gb, but didn’t realized just how fast you burn through the data. I wish these company’s would set the throttle at about 1-2 Mbps, 600 Kbps is ridiculous!

    • @MobileInternetResourceCenter
      @MobileInternetResourceCenter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Few things burn through data faster than streaming video, and you've found the limitations of streaming with a limited data plan.
      But, as discussed in the video and accompanying guide, there are alternatives like mirroring a smartphone or tablet that has unlimited on-device data.
