    This watch has to be seen in sunlight to really appreciate it. The ceramic dial, polished indices & hands look incredible. The dial has so much depth.

    Recently got the white dial version, which is amazing. Went online to check specs on my watch and was blown away to find their testing was 1.7s per day, my personal timing is coming in more like 1.2s per day. Fantastic watch! Highly recommend it to anyone.

      From a purely technical and engineering perspective, it shames the 3135 in the Submariner and trades blows equally with the 3235 (winning for real world accuracy/precision and 🧲 resistance, losing slightly in PR.). This movement is going to be seen as a hallmark caliber from Omega in the coming decades.

    I got a 2012 Seamaster 300M black dial. I took out the bracelet and mounted the Omega James Bond Nato strap. I feel it's more comfy. Solid watch,very accurate and superb power reserve. The only thing that surprised me is that it has got slight bezel play !!! Omega dealer told me it can be fixed but for now it stays as is. I purchased the watch used and have no regrets. Thank you for this video.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cool man, thanks for sharing that! No doubt that awesome material they use for their NATO is gonna be more comfy I reckon... presently I'm a bit off NATO straps personally as I have started not liking how they lift the watch off the wrist, and for thicker pieces that can be a killer. Cheers, Ivan.

    At this stage I own both the SubC NoDate (Ref, 114060, got it for retail recently) and this watch so I can compare the two directly: As much as I like Omega and want it to win, I still find the Sub better overall in many important aspects: It feels like a higher quality piece in terms of the materials used (probably due to 904L steel). Also it wears a bit slimmer, weighs less, is dressier and is thus more versatile (advantage if you want a one watch collection only). The bezel action of the Rolex is the best of any diver, same goes for its crown action, which I would describe as smooth like butter. Despite the COSC certification of the Omega, the nice feature of being able to check on your watch measurement results online and the guarantee that it will never lose time, my Rolex keeps time better (less than +1sec a day, seldom -1 when in the watch winder) while the Omega is at +2 to 3 seconds per day. After all, this is what matters. Then the financial reasoning: Never in my life have I made profit on selling an Omega, in fact I lost money while I always made profit or got my money back in case of every single Rolex I owned. It's like you can wear the watch for free or are getting paid to do so. Rolex has better brand reputation and recognition. Advantage Omega: Much more exciting dial with waves, gorgeous blue (I simply adore the blue color of the SMP!) while the Sub might be boring, the Sub has become too popular and widespread (Omega shows more individuality), display case back and better technical movement (but not time keeping as argued above!), coaxial (is this really an advatage or just marketing?), fresher/younger/more stylish look (but might go out of style or look outdated in 10 to 20 years), anti magnetic properties (again: is this really an advantage or just marketing?), it costs half the price of the Rolex, helium escape valve (nobody needs it, might ruin the look of the watch for some people), it has by a tiny margin the more comfortable bracelet (I find the SMP bracelet to be the most comfortable of any watch). In the end, both Omega and Rolex have their place in the watch world with Omega being the geeky, stylish, wanting to do and add new things innovator and Rolex being like a conservative bank.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for taking the time to share those insightful thoughts, I really appreciate that!
      I find myself agreeing with almost everything you said actually. Some minor points of differences however:
      - Regarding higher quality feel, I have a 5-digit Sub and have come across 6-digit models also. Personally I find it quite difficult to perceive any difference in the quality of the feel & finish... just my own view of course.
      - Regarding accuracy, Rolex technically claims a narrower range of +/- 2spd, while Omega is +0-5spd. One could argue that both your watches are *smack bang* in the middle of the claimed accuracy range.
      - Re: Magnetic resistance - oh I am pretty sure this isn't just marketing... the resistance of the Omega is astounding and at 15000 gauss means it can sit in a standard MRI machine! Rolex's best performing anti-magnetic is the Milgauss of course, at 1000 gauss, 1/15th of the new Omega movements. WatchTime did an fascinating test on the PO with anti-magnetic movement using an actual MRI - it was impressive!
      As for the rest I actually agree, *especially* with regards to the value retention of Rolex (yep, like wearing for free, as long as you keep in it good nick), and the brand recognition, which is second to none. Ask any random non-enthusiast on the street what is the best watch, and the answer is almost inevitably Rolex!
      Cheers & thanks again, Ivan.

    • @davegunner49
      @davegunner49 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PerthWAtch Indeed, probably the Sub would become magnetised in a MRI despite its antimagnetic parachrom hairspring :). On the other hand, I am wondering about playing golf as Rolex is known for its high shock resistance and would survive the bangs there. After two weeks of just wearing the Sub I find the Omega refreshing and satisfying to have on my wrist again today. Both watches are awesome for different reasons and if one can own both of them, it's even better ;). Greetings, David

    On Dec.1, 2022 I purchased the Seamaster Diver 300M in blue. The MSRP $5400.us I asked and was given a 10% discount since I was paying cash, so my purchase price was $4860.us plus tax. This was my second AD that I had gone to. The first shop was also Rolex AD and I had hoped to buy from then and build a relationship to eventually buy a Rolex Submariner, or GMT. Unfortunately they turned down my discount request and said Omega had stopped discounting their watches a long time ago. I thanked the salesperson and left. Unfortunately the AD who gave me the discounted price does not sell Rolex which is okay. Some people feel that the Omega is a better watch than the Submariner and I have to agree. The Seamaster is a high quality, well priced beautiful work of mechanical art and I love wearing mine. I am on the Rolex registry at a different AD, but at age 72 I will probably be taking my dirt nap when the Rolex AD gives me 'the call'.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing that - well at the current tanking market conditions, Rolex may become easier to come by. Their supply chain sucks badly, and while they truly hold value like no other brand, objectively speaking no one can deny that the Seamaster here is a superior watch.
      I will front up with the cash if they ever offer me a Sub, but not because I think it’s even close to being the best on market.

    I love my Omega. It’s the Seamaster PO Chrono in blue. I’ve never owned a watch that’s drawn so much attention and compliments. People seem to love it too. At 45.5 mm and 19.1 mm in depth it wears a lot better than the figures suggest. Well done Omega, you’ve created a beautiful watch.

    Excellent review! I bought this watch when it came out last year, my Rolex AD had a black sub with date that just came in and I was going to pick it up for my birthday. My brother came with me and while I was checking out the sub, he was checking out the new blue sea master 300m. They were asking 4400 for the seamaster, 9500 for the sub. I had the two watches side by side and ultimately went with the seamaster for its features and price. No regrets whatsoever, it’s a fantastic watch!

      Yes I think that is very true, some people who have Rolex pieces consider the investment value and therefore scarcely wear them. However many also do use them as daily wear. The inverse is not true of Omega, where most owners I know would happy to wear them around.

    Nice review, thank you.
    I really like the updates on this one. Less writing on the dial, (compared to the 90s version) blue date wheel at 6 and the bracelet. Excellent all round. The only thing that is still a gimmick is the helium valve which, for me, is a useless feature. I still love this watch and of course the 2531.80 😃

    Your watch reviews are great particularly this most talked Omega Seamaster 300. Holding two generations you have made the expected buyers made up their mind which one they would target to purchase their grail watch. I have decided to to the earlier model because 1) The Omega logo in the early generation is applied gorgeous looks which I can't deny. 2) Earlier Omega looks more formal than the updated versions. The latest dial is more Sporty in the dial color. 3) For having the proper size and an ETA 2892-A movement which with a fine regulations can keep the same timing.
    By the way is the earlier model as magnet resistance as the new one?

    • @PerthWAtch

      Thanks for the positive feedback and for sharing those thoughts! The earlier model has no magnetic resistance stipulation - in fact, AFAIK there are no other watches that have been tested to the standards that these Omega Master Chronometers have.

    I pointed a date to get one. Also a first Omega.
    I can change dial colour’s, so it would be the blue or grey. The strap, defiantly i go for the blue rubber and i want a colored nato strap. I consider also a planet ocean 600m, but the 300m is with it’s 42mm just more practical for me and more play, despite of the planet ocean’s 8900 co-axial movement with an increase of the power reserve.
    The previous seamaster is not my choice, because i am a guy who always want the newest watch. I like the waves on the dial, who gives the seamaster a flair of original. The hands are not so nice as i seen on the planet ocean 600m, but i see original flair. Enough for me to hop to the shop, and get that sporty diver. Not for the desk, but for knowing the time under water.

    I purchased the black Omega Seamaster in the UK for £4,170.00 with the braclet. The presentation box is beautiful, and the watch is just gorgeous. I own a Rolex Sub date which I purchased before everything went crazy, my honest opinion, the Sub can't touch my new Omega which in my opinion is a stunning watch, but also the build quality and movement puts the Rolex Sub in the shade. On the wrist is where you see the difference, the Sub looks small on my seven inch wrist, but the Seamaster looks and feels like a class watch and is admired more than the Sub. If you are thing of buying one don't wait, this looks like it's going to be a classic, when you see all the reviews on the internet.

It is on the wrist the entire time without removal, including sleeping. I also checked each day multiple times how many seconds were gained to see how much variance there was. So it's a rough calculation but probably not too far off from the actual accuracy.

    • @PerthWAtch

      Thank you. Looking at this video again in the daylight gave it another take. Mainly, my one question on the execution of the watch. Despite the tradition of the heliyum escape valve and the relocation of the date window to the six o'clock position, what woud you say, Perth to a framed window at the 4 o'clock position? Is the 6 o'clock position for interest? I find that a thin matching frame of the same width at the 4 o'clock position would balance the weight across from the helium escape valve. I wonder how many in the board room suggested this only to have the current selection chosen? AF

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's an interesting thought Alex, however I have a rather difference perspective on this. Most 3 hander watches are by default "imbalanced" thanks to a crown at 3 o'clock... so part of why I instinctively like the Helium valve is that is helps "restore balance to the Force" :)
      Personally I think a date at 4 o'clock would be a misstep as it would involve compromising the hour index at that point. Overall I think this would appear to be trying to rebalance a 10 o'clock crown that was rebalancing the 3 o'clock crown anyway ;)

    People compare this head to head with the sub all the time. But outside of both being dive watches from prominent brands the watches are quite different in style and size. While I love what Omega is doing I'd still go Sub for an everyday watch because of the size and because it has more of an understated retro feel to it compared to the SMP.

Perhaps most of the comparison advantages of the Omega over the Rolex is true. Thanks for those thoughts Amy - I'm curious, are you a guy who happened to be using his GF/wife's login? Reason I wonder is that this watch would be rather large for most ladies, and I certainly have never seen a lady wear a Seamaster 41mm or 42mm (not that there's anything inherently wrong with that).
      I can be glad then that I have created a unique video on this watch that makes no mention of the Submariner ;)
      Having said that however, I will weigh in to say that the hypothetical situation you propose where a Sub is obtainable at the same price, must necessarily also mean that the Sub somehow did not have all the historical reasons behind why Rolex is able to market it at $10k. In that case I'm not sure that everyone would be going for the Sub instead. If on the other you could really somehow buy a Sub in this reality, at $5k... well that would be a no brainer as it would be sorely undervalued!

      @@PerthWAtch I'm a guy, "Amy" short for Amiltriptyline; my dad is a pharmacist. Sorry, I must have gotten confused with all the other videos I've watched, but you did write "Sub Killer" in your title. My days of ruminating over the purchase of a Rolex Submariner are long gone. But that is OK because I bought the Omega, which is better than the Submariner anyway, right?

    A very nice watch. Personally, Between a Submariner and this I would definitely go with this. I’m not crazy about the hands but I really don’t like the Mercedes Hands either. This has a more modern design. The Submariner’s dial and hands are very old fashioned. Ok s the case profile on this is much nicer.

    Great review. It's a great looking watch. I still maintain I would rather a new Breitling Chronomat over this. Why? B01 movement now edges both the co-axial 8800 and Rolex sub 3235. The Breitling finish is better too, new rouleaux bracelet is just brilliant. Omega needs to improve their bracelet design. Clasps are good though and TBH still a great choice, used its a bargain.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Breitling design certainly different and interesting. But perhaps you can explain why you think the B01 “edges” the Omega 8800. I haven’t seen anything to substantiate this.

Caliber 8500 movement is actually made by ETA, featuring Co-Axial designed technology, so it's not really in house, despite Omega claims! Omega has 39Jewels vs 47 in the b01. Omega has 25,200 vph vs 28,800vph in the b01, Omega 8500 only a 60 hr power reserve (55 in 8800) vs 70 hours in the b01 need I go on? No contest really! I should mention I'm.not against Omega or Rolex but credit where its due. Breitling lost their way a bit, they are back at the top of the game and it's great to see. People should be celebrating them and the choices now available to collectors!

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nah, you've got some major misconceptions there. You are assuming that more jewels and higher beat rate means a superior movement, but this is simply not true. That's like saying a higher revving engine that has more ball bearings automatically means it's a better one. Plus you're comparing a chronograph with a 3-hander date - it would a farce if the Breitling didn't manage to fit more jewels in!
      Why do you suppose you need a higher beat-rate? If you reckon accuracy... well you might've checked that the Omega has an accuracy window that is half that of the Breitling COSC (5 seconds/day vs 10 seconds/day). Did you actually watch the video? Did you see the part about the tests Master Chronometer movements are subjected to? Among many other things, it's a truly anti-magnetic movement that can be taken into an MRI and still beat accurately. Needless to say, not so with the Breitling. Oh and whoever told you it's made by ETA lied to you. Apart from the power reserve, the Omega beats the Breitling in all the ways where it actually matters.
      Need I go on? No contest really ;)

    • @philc1773
      @philc1773 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PerthWAtchNow Breitling were the first to offer a 5 year warranty? Omega first? Failure of the hour wheel? Underlying worries about the movements reliability with service needed before time? Heard a few stories!
      Noticed you ignored power reserve point too? As for the co-axial escapement, it can afford to beat at a lower frequency because of its design. But in a Swiss lever, a lower beat per hour is associated with less accuracy. It’s on a microscopic scale, obviously, but the seconds hand might be a fraction more jumpy. Take the Zenith El Primero movement that’s so popular, it beats at 36,000. Sure, it’s not guaranteed that more beats means better movements but, generally, it’s what most brands seem to be shooting for. It is technically not in house. .Swatch group owns Omega and ETA, that doesn't make the fettled 8500 in house! Just saying !

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes indeed, heard many stories about problems with Breitling movements!
      Not sure what you’re going on about regarding the beat frequency... Zenith blah blah blah... the point is that Omega is more accurate, and that’s what matters. So you agree it’s better then it would seem ;)
      Oh, and you think I “ignored power reserve point” but referring directly to it? Interesting opinion... or maybe you just need to read my comment again more carefully!
