Man you’re a beast! I tried to wrestle my tire on and it took 3-4 hours of wrestling in between beer breaks. By the end I was drunk as shit and fell on my face on my garage floor
Thank you, thank you, Roy -- for not just offering practical information, but humor that helped me persevere as I wrestled with my tire! I got my tire on the rim using your technique -- plus vice grips to hold one end down. You rock!
Back tires on a mower - 24X9.50-12. Couldn't have done it without your video, but hope to never have to do it again. I swear I could hear that Rocky song when the last tire went over the rim. Thank you for this superb instructional and entertaining video.
Good Video Roy, I have a smaller " Big Green " myself, and she needs new tires for this mowing season. I do all my repair work on my mower , including replacing a burnt valve in the head and replacing the shifter in the gearbox. I love doing my own repairs, and greatly appreciate other folks who do the same. Good job and Thanks for doing this .
I'm fixing a flat on my 13-year-old 'little red' garden tractor right now. I've ordered an inner tube and have been working on getting the old tube out of there. Tubeless, but it is the same rear tire that flattened years ago and I took it to a shop in the next town to fix. I know from the lower cost they charged me that they put in a cheap tube that leaked at the base of the valve a few years later. Broke the bead by standing on the rim and moving a foot, and then both, off the rim to the edge and bounced. Tomorrow I'll soap it up and work on getting the rim loose. It was a pleasure seeing someone finally looking after their equipment and tools. I've watched too many of these videos where equipment and tools were so rusty it was painful to watch. I'm in my 70s, on my own, and inherited my Dad's workshop and tools, so will do it myself this time; it will just take me longer. Have repaired my own appliances for years because of my remote location and figured out the experts were just guessing their way through the repairs. I found I can do that too. Thanks for the help.
The smaller tires are a bear. I have 15" rims on my LX277 and had a heck of a time putting on new front tires. I finally did it, but it wasn't easy. I also installed tubes in them because I'm tired of Chinese tires leaking (and dry rotting for that matter). And I learned something, too. I knew that there was a town in Pa., named Carlisle. I didn't realize it was now located in China. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the video! You just saved me some money! After watching your video I went out and did a larger tractor tire and it didn’t take me all blooming day like it normally does. Thank you! Great tips!
Lol this is the best vid I’ve seen on TH-cam on how to change a tire for lawn tractor , I’ve got a Husqvarna 54” garden tractor I’ve got to change the front tires on it, I’ve got also a 54” John Deere garden tractor that I love! Thank for making the vid fun and understandable!
Great video! Best one I’ve see so far! The 5 gallon bucket & blocks are a great idea for supporting the rim. Sparked an idea for building a similar mount that’s stable… thx! I need to swap my tires in the spring.
Great video. I remember once I was trying to get my tire back on the rim after installing a new inner tube. Boy that tire whipped my butt. I was in the garage sweating. Finally gave up and took it too a buddy of mine. But I think I can get it.
Good video. I changed the front tires on my mower. It was a bit of a struggle but I didnt have a tire tool. I will take the back tires to a tire shop. I can have them mounted for less than the price of a tire tool. Thank you.
Very good video. For old tractors (or northern vehicles in general) I use a sealant on the tire face where it contacts the rim. Remove rust and paint that surface if it is rusty. Hi tack works good to seal the tire, but there are products just for that.
Hi I got a John Deere L100 wanting to put on Ag tires, my size are 20x 8.00-8 but can't find that size, my buddy told me a 20x 10.0-8 will work wanted to check with you lol and your videos are really helpful
Excellent video! The 5 gal bucket was too large for Lawnmower tires so I used a piece of 6x6. Fix a flat has caused the rims to rust excessively, so I had to sand and paint them to stop the rust!
Good job over all ... special note however ... all four of your tires have "directional" tread and must be installed on the rim correctly for the position each tire will occupy...the best way to insure a proper install is to mark each tire with a chaulk arrow in advance indicating rotation direction and location on the vehicle...cheers and nice machine...JOHN DEERE RULES!!!
@@Therealestrunnerluda ...just trying to be informative and helpful...don't get an "attitude" on me .... not everyone knows there are turf tires and there are directional tires for lawn tractor use... remember the old billboard sign PLAN AHEad .... that's all I was saying....
Good video. It takes some tenacity but the job gets done. You installed directional tires and got them right as far as I could see but it is worth mentioning to be sure you are putting them on the right way before you go through the wrestling match. I prefer to wear gloves doing this job but I have thin skin on my hands at my age.
Use a bead lock OTC 5733or OTC 5731 to hold the top bead. There rubber on the tool when you clamp the tool to the wheel. Nice video. Take your time like this man it will all work out fine!!!
Not thinking I started using my mower without checking the tires. Broke the bead and lost all the air. Was going to buy a new pre-mounted. Watch the video And re mounted it inless time then it would have taken me to drive to the store. You saved me 40 bucks and about 45 min.
Great video, I have my new rear tires and wanted to see how difficult this could be. My question is, once you get the new tire on the rim, how do you get the bead sealed enough to fill the tire with air? I can figure out how to seat it so it will fill...
best way is to use a ratchet strap around the tread of the wheel and that will pop out the beads to allow sealing for the air to fill, done this thousands of times on my zero turn husqvarna jockey wheels. - They love to come off. Has to do with no replacement wheels in Australia of the size 4.10/3.50 - 5 as my machine was assembled in USA, so they say. and it cost twice as much as the parts cost to ship them here.... so we live with a slow leak......
Thanks for the video. It helped me a lot. As a side note, if you don’t do a cover/parody of Alice’s Restaurant you are severely ignoring a gift. Hahaha. Sound just like Arlo Guthrie when you’re talking. Haha
baby bites when spooning on tires, thats and old mans secret that retired after years of experience from working on small garden tractor tires to scraper tires. vise grips will also help from having the tire spin around the rim when its slippery
pretty nice tires there, wonder if one like that would fit on my 1997 John Deere 325 that i got for $150 with a bad motor in it that knocks. plan on overhauling the motor, but those rims there look just like the ones on my 325...wonder if that kind of tire would work on mine?
Great video, but you didn't show how you first got the bead to seal against the rim ...that is the one hardest part...I have seen guys use brake cleaner and then light it, but that somehow seems a bid dangerous. I have had success with a tie down strap around the center of the tire, and then tighten it until the tire bead flares enough inside the rim to finally get a seal, but that is pretty cumbersome...any other ideas would be very welcome.
It is just water and liquid dish washing soap, like you use when you hand wash the dishes. I just filled a regular cup about half full of water, gave it a good squirt of soap and stirred it up.
I hate to admit this. I worked on that tire for several hours. I got both beads broke. I got the leak repaired. Then I could not get the %$** thing back on the rim. I watched your vid here again. I see that I missed the part about having the tire raised up off the floor.
Hey Roy great videos. I just got a 2013 JD x738 4x4 love it. Wish I had more attachments like you. What size and brand tires front and rear did you put on?
Hey Roy, now that you have had the bar tires on for awhile what do you think of them? Do you like them better then the ones you had on before? I'm in hilly land and not sure if I should get the ones you had that you replaced with the bar tires or the bar tires for my 1026R JD. Have the R-4's on which is what it came with and I don't like them for the ground I have, it's hilly here in north east Tn. Let me know would you? Levi...
Actually, the ride is not bad at all. I originally thought it would be a little rough, but I really can't tell much difference in the ride, but a big big difference in traction, especially for the front end loader.
Aright, I have a question, slightly off topic. Like you, I put Super Plugs on the back of my John Deere. I am sure for the same reasons (Carlisles that come on it are garbage). But there is one thing you did that I did not do. What is your reasoning for putting super plugs on the front? It's a straight question. If it makes sense, I'll do it. Talk to me, Goose.
I've got smaller front tyres, for a micro tractor; swopping over from lawn tyres to agricultural. Managed to do one, off the tractor. Tried the second one on the tractor. Got the old tyre off, couldn't get the new one on. Took it off to sunbathe it. Up to 38°. Three vice grips together. Last one third I CANNOT get on. Frightened of breaking the damn tyre. Anyone tried heating it up more with a heat gun? Or other ideas? Thanks.
What do I do with an old hardened tire? It's broken off the rim, but the tire spoon is just bending the rim. I tried changing a motorcycle tire myself once, but even with a tire machine it took the bike shop half an hour to get the tire on, I truly don't know how you all get so lucky with tires fitting over rims like this
Here is a tip you can take the tires off and back on the rims without taking the wheels off the tractor a lot easier. The wheels still on tractor are held steady just pry off tire and back on
would i be able to ask were you got these tires from, what the exact make of them is and if its ok how much it was for the set of four.....im looking to put ags on my JD x500 garden tractor
I would point out that you should put "never seize" on the lug bolts, and, you should tighten them in a star-pattern if you want to do it right :) That said, thank you for the video.

Thank you for the instruction and the pep talk about getting things done independently. I appreciate you.
Great video, was able to change my old Murray tires with a new set of mud tires. You and your music helped me get it done..
Great job..

Great video saved me much frustration. Worked well on my atv tires which are a pain to break and reseal the beads. This really helped.
Love your dry humour! Excellent.
Outstanding music choice. Thanks for the helpful video!
I've never seen the bucket maneuver, genius!
Dude, thumbs up on this video. It was informative, and the commentary had me cracking up! Thank you!
thanks for posting about tire changing it was very helpful i was looking for a good video about this for my lawn tractor thanks royrector

I have a BX (first “tractor”) but I still enjoy you and your “green” tractor videos. 😀
i didn't think I'd be entertained while watching a tire changing video. Thanks for the information and the laugh.
Enjoyed video. Your sense of humor helps. Don't even have a tractor, or even a lawn.
You have the perfect voice to narrate a Disney movie!💚

Hahha! Dadgummut. That was the best narrator and music to go with a tire change.
Great video. I remember once I was trying to get my tire back on the rim after installing a new inner tube. Boy that tire whipped my butt. I was in the garage sweating. Finally gave up and took it too a buddy of mine. But I think I can get it.
The rim is a WHEEL....and you took it TO a buddy. You’re welcome. For more information, check out www.dictionary.com.

Excellent information on mower/ATV tire change...take care Roy Rector
you know there is a real nice tire changing machine at harbor freight for
Thank you so much for this video! I couldn’t figure out how to put the c clamp on, thanks so much

Hello
you good people over there, it was a wery good video thanks..
henrik , denmark
Awesome video!!

Funniest tire changing video ever. Thanks for the knowledge, I'm ready to tackle my own AG tire install rather that going down to the tire shop.
anybody told you to use a vise grip on the rim for the hard to get on bead. Stops the rubber from escaping on the second rim bead.
Not thinking I started using my mower without checking the tires. Broke the bead and lost all the air. Was going to buy a new pre-mounted. Watch the video And re mounted it inless time then it would have taken me to drive to the store. You saved me 40 bucks and about 45 min.

Thanks!! Nice video - informative and entertaining too :)
Great video!!😎 thanks!!!!!
Lol perfect choice of music 👌
Awesome tire video ever
Was watching this for the back tires of a quad. I swear, it wasn't the instruction tht got mine on, it was the Rocky theme!
You’re a genius
love the accent!! Thanks for the vid!
Great information. Really fun too.
i wish breaking the bead was that easy :) "where there is a wheel there is a way " LOL
thx sir !!i got lots of help from you video ,thx very much !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The greatest KISS method I've seen in a long time..
Great help. Thank you.
good job. suggest buying another tire tool for $20 at tractor supply. What was the torque amount you used per your tractor?
Vice Grips work well when putting the top bead on...clamp them to the wheel and they will hold the tire from coming back off
Bo, that tractor looks pretty mean now that you got them new tractor tires on him, good job, keep the videos coming
You need to make more videos! :) This was a sweet vid though!
Those were some pretty rims. "Were."
you can use the rim itself to take the back bead off.just take the tire tool and put it between the bead and the rim and push up.
Real nice video. Thanks!
Very well done!
Why didn't you use a pair of vice grips on the rim to stop the tire from sliding around the rim when you are putting on the tire?
Well I thought that was quite entertaining, I had to watch the whole thing, yikes watch out for the flying tire iron.......good stuff.
