  • 20th YEAR ANNIVERSARY of my car getting stolen! (my experience)
Today marks my 20th year ago that I experienced my car getting stolen! I really loved that car to death! I was REALLY into my car then. I felt that I am a nobody if I did not have this car. In otherwords this car is an EXTENSION of ME! On January 20, 1994. At about 8 pm. I went to the gym for a little workout. I park my car there like I usually do.
Work out for a while. I then go to my car. I had plans for doing a really nice wash of my car the next morning! SO looking for my car. It was GONE! It was a shocker for me! I actually experienced a stolen car! Call police, 30 min later, they come and take the report. So now it's time for me to go home! But with no car, I call my mom to give me a ride home. Mom got shocked herself that it happened.Because it never happened to ANY of us before! I actually did not take too hard then. One reason was cause I felt I'll get it back within a week. No problem. Also too, surprisingly, I was becoming more social in life about this time. Going to clubs and everything. And seeing that people seemed to like talking to me. And then realizing that it should NOT be necessary to have a nice car to for people to like me! My apartment was 30 min away, but I was going to move to my mom's house within a week! During that time, I was
packing my car day by day and bringing my stuff to mom's house. Hang out at mom's, then before going to the gym, unpack my car! Feeling sense to NOT leave stuff in the car while at the gym. It just so happens that I was thinking "It's RISKY to have things I VALUE in the car while it has a chance to get stolen!"
So to make the story short. I waited day by day, expecting a call ANYTIME! The next day passes, then the next and next...So after more than a couple weeks, I started loosing hope to get my car back. In one piece anyway! So now the weeks turned to months! Still nothing! Going onto May 1994, I had a neighbor tell me that he SAW MY CAR DRIVING AROUND! Someone was actually driving MY CAR! 5 months later! And to MY SURPRISE, while I was driving around in another car, I COME ACROSS MY CAR DRIVING AROUND! I then followed my car! The thief evidently KNEW why he was being followed! So he decides to RUN for it. I gave chase to him with my car! He was blowing through stop signs and everything! And me, looking at MY CAR! IT'S A FREAKIN TRIP! MY CAR IS RIGHT AT MY HANDS! It'S like my stolen car is
telling me "HERE I AM, JUST COME AND CATCH ME". So continuing the chase, the theif got away when he blew through a red light! BUT actually I was giving chase to the thief with my intention to JUST SCARE HIM. And hope he would just dump the car. One week later, I once again SAW MY CAR DRIVING! MANN, I REALLY WANT TO GET MY CAR! The theif sees me again! He runs, I attemp to give chase, but I was
in a bad spot to have a chance to chase him. Oddly, I saw that the theif put on some DIFFERENT rims on my car! I can see because the theif hopes I won't reconize my car! HE WAS DEAD WRONG! little prick! This was 5 months after my car got stolen! So I then drove around that area for the next couple weeks thinking he'll show up again! I was on a look out! BUT evidently, I never saw him again.
Going onto September 1994, I FINALLY GOT LETTER from the police that my car was RECOVERED! WOW! I thought! Cool! I was kind of thinking it was in one piece! So I call the police to get more info. They basically told me that the interior is stripped and is NOT drivable. HA! I was a little disappointed. So I was thinking, just the interior.. OK! Thinking the rest of the car will be fine. Including the tires and even the paint job!
I then go to the tow yard where my car was at. The tow company told me that the car had been there since June 1st. It took 3 months to find out who's car it was because the thief had stripped away all the vin numbers! This tells me, that the theif wanted to KEEP the car.. "WELL PRICK, TO BAD YOU DON'T GET TO KEEP IT." Well anyway, I paid $225 to claim it. They tow it to my mom's house. Then I realize that the car is in MUCH WORSE condition than just the interior being gone! I decovered all the windows
and regulators are GONE! And plus the paint is completely torn, also the windsheild was destroyed! Along with the tires! So I guess I can see that the thief did in fact dump the car. BUT evidently, he was NOT going leave the nice interior and nice tires behind! So it seems he went out and bought some CHEAP rims so he can keep the nice ones, takes the parts he wants, then drives the car into a feild or something to dump it.
took all the parts he wanted, then left the car there.

My dad owned a shoe store in Chicago in like the 1970s, so he had a lot of money and made his own car, I think it was a Cadillac, and 1 day he found it with no tires, in 4 blocks and with nothing inside. That's the only time he has experienced a theft. Then he moved to Puerto Rico in like 1985, but we & none of our whole extended family have ever got our cars stolen or anything in here. 😊
Btw, I was born in the late 80s in PR. I wasn't alive when my parents lived in Chicago and owned a shoe store and the car that was stolen.

Been checking out a handful of your uploads. I had bought my then wife the same 626 as yours right around the same time as you bought yours. We surely loved that '84 as it was the car to transport our 1st child born in '92. Hers was white and later got her some 15" chrome 5-spoke Optima rims. I really enjoyed activating the "normal/sport" suspension option onto sport. It really stiffened up the ride on tight curves.
In some of your other videos I saw that we're damn near of the same soul. Guess it's a Leo thing as I'm exactly both 2 days and 2 years your elder. Grew up in the USC area here in SoCal but now reside in whittier. My job requires me to travel the IE area and am often utilizing the very same freeways you've video in other uploads.
Thanks for all documenting everyday life of growing up and living here in the SoCal area of yesteryear! Definitely subscribing to your channel sir. Hope you and your humble family stay safe during these uncertain "Covid-19" times.. Johnny A.

Sad, it was a trend for popular cars back in the day to be stolen and funny you have a 626 because my sister friend had a 1982 Toyota corolla hatchback coupe that was stolen in front of her house. Her next car was a champagne Mazda 626 like yours. Lovely car and I love the oscillating AC vents. I miss the 90s.

I can see why you loved that car so much. It didn't look like it had 200k miles under its belt and it's a rare 2 door model to boot! I'd be pissed if that was my car. What did you do when you got it back?

    • @fueledbymusic3
      @fueledbymusic3  10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I liked that car for one major reason. It was the distinct style of the stock rims. The three stripes crossing the rims. I felt like this set's me apart from everybody else. I like to be different!
Oh yes. What I did? I did end up fixing up the car. Little by little, I restored that car to the way it was before it got stolen. That includes repainting the car and buying all parts to replace all that's missing. Cost me hundreds and hundreds of dollars. BUT IT JUST WAS NOT THE SAME ANYMORE! But I was STILL idolizing the car. A year later, evidently the car got old. Packing the miles to 240,000 miles. I wanted to sell the car for $1500, but then I ended up trading it in to get a new 1995 Ford Escort. Only for me to get all upset about literally GIVING AWAY the car to the dealer. And for the next day to have a guy who wanted to buy my car! I had wished I would have just kept the car as a "souvenir". haha LOL
