The cable with 2 loops is for your helmet, you secure it under the seat and don't have to take the helmet with you...

That plug you were looking at is a dummy plug. It needs to be disconected to get to the actual plug with power. I think Honda uses the dummy plug to keep water out

I see you have been 'put wise' to the function of the helmet-locking strap. These items are described in the owners manual of course. But the 'toolkit' is three parts useless, with not only no Allen keys, when the whole bike is covered in those fasteners, but has no spanner for either of the main axle nuts, such that you can neither remove a wheel for a puncture, nor even adjust your chain tension with the provided tools! So yes - the toolkit is a token gesture. I guess we live in a period in history where bike owners are expected to take their motorcycle to the shop to have its chain adjusted...

Nope, it needed a new engine, so I traded it in

Honda also sells an needed "Accessory Socket Sub-Harness" that gets intstalled under the rear area of the seat of N. American Transalps that will apply power to that socket you installed.
But Honda no where tells where to install this sub-harness.
You have not read the Owners Manual as it will answer some of your questions like what is that steel cable for.
Nor have you looked at the Honda site listing the accessories and the instructions how to install them.
Did you install an in-line fuse?
Everything has become a mystery it seems. Likely so we take it to a dealer for everything.
They do not even supply the axle torques for either wheel for when adjusting the chain or removing wheels!
You come across as a bit of a hacker.

@@MCPHILL You can simply installed an in-line fuse in the under seat as some have done without running wires the length of the bike because that is all the sub-harness is (a connector with 2 wires and a fuse).

@@MCPHILL I got my 2024 Transaalp last Friday and was learning to install the 12Vdc socket also. I did buy the Honda socket and Sub-harness.
I finished installing it a few minutes ago.
Turns out the harness is just another black connector, 2 wires and at the other end is a fuse holder with a 3 amp fuse and a spare fuse..
The socket the harness plugs into is under the seat on the left side beside kind of under the tool bag.
The harness plug is black and also has a dumby cap on it to keep dirt,...out of it just like the one under the dash you connected to.
I am an old licenced mechanic and basically once these 2 pins are shorted together power is supplied to the socket we installed in the dash.
Some people made their own fuse holder with terminals on the ends of 2 wires or they crudely spliced onto each of the 2 wires making the 2 connections.
This results in a home made harness.
Hope this is some what clear and helpfull.
