    Spoilers for Icewind Dale: RoTFM
I ran a icewind dale campaign awhile ago, and the Gnomish character's secret was that he was trying to find a way to help Palarandusk.
Once he found out about the Chardalyn dragon he was going to attempt a ritual to fuse Palarandusk with it, so that the dragon can have a physical body again, and be nigh immortal.
It was an amazing campaign. It ended up becoming a crucial part of the campaign because of the potential for corruption. So much happened on that campaign, we went way off the rails, and the book ended up becoming more of a guide for characters and places. It's why I love this game.

Unfortunately they lost to Auril, ended up getting defrosted a few hundred years later, in an enclave that is run by a priest of the Morning lord. If you played the story there's a machine that needs fixing that is tied to this. They fixed it and a town was built around it. Aruil succeeded in making the north her domain, but is stuck fighting Levistus' forces for control over it. The campaign ended there, cuz a few people had some life stuff to deal with. Where things would have led to is them reassembling Palanderusk uniting the desperate races trapped in this hellscape tricking Levistus into weakening Auril, and saving the day... or they would have failed abysmally again🤣🤣

Going off the rails usually mean further character development along with their story and background. Dnd is storytelling, being that character, failing or being successful, having a small business, traveling from goblin village to goblin village to study their culture, fighting off an orc invasion. All are stories waiting to be told by the DM and the players.

RAW clone wouldn’t work, nevermind all the “dragons are different” flavor, by RAW it’s a no go based on the components. You need at least 1 cubic inch of flesh of the creature to be cloned, that and cast time is one hour. He can only materialize for minutes at a time.
Now, if you’re using wish to cast clone instantaneously, that would work. So long as you cast it touching your material flesh component, i.e., Mr. Ethereal dragon here.
You would just cast a 3rd level blink, cast your clone wish, hold the spell using up your reaction and concentration, then when you’re in the ethereal, touch your component and release the spell.
People can argue “bUt iTs a DrAGoN tHo”, a creature is a creature is a creature.
“A creature is any player character or DM-controlled monsters and NPCs including (but not limited to) constructs, monstrous plants, and undead. If a spell or feature says it affects a creature, then it does not affect objects unless it specifically says so.”
That being said, I would totally level a reflavored Gnome Genie Warlock or dragon Sorcerer, or wizard with saving Palarandusk and making him a merely ancient dragon again his total end goal and the dragon as his patron/bloodline.

    • @guilhermebrito1998
      @guilhermebrito1998 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Wouldn't work. As he talked about in the video about the dracolich, clone spells work different for dragons. (Lore wise at least). A dragon can't simply clone himself because he is a being of pure magic. Magic runs in it's veins. A wizard has most of it's magic on his brain. This is also why sorcerers can't cast the spell clone. Because the magic they know is inherent to their body and being. So if they cloned themselves, they would indeed be born again but without any magic. And transfering innate magic essence from one body to another is not as easy as a simple 8th level spell unfortunately. After all, only God level entities can create their own avatars. And even the avatars aren't as strong as the entities themselves. So imagine how hard it must be to transfer the whole magic over.

Seriously never heard of a canonical person from dnd be this truly noble and compassionate of individual. not only does he at least appear to put away his pride as a dragon and abandon things he views as worthless and beneath him personally as an individual like treasure and lair, he In truth actively uses every ounce of his pride to fuel both his compassion and perhaps in some sense even his humility. A low level one could be built around stopping a spy who discovered the dragons existence. The adventurers job is to stop the spy from reporting to dragon or some evil group/entity.

It would be interesting to see something in the lore, in an adventure or a novel in which priests, paladins or followers of Helm pray to their deity for some kind of help for Palarandusk, who believes that his purpose in life and beyond, is to Protect and Guard. Either Helm himself could help Palarandusk, or send his church on a mission to help him.

I could see a very cool lawful good themed campaign coming out of either helping further or end the life of Palarandusk. The later would be aiding his transition to Mt Celestia naturally. How one would comfort & enable the 'stewardship' of the living world (or at least that gnome village's) protection would be up to the DM & party. @MrRhexx there is your next kickstarter idea LUL.

So much of Lost Mine of Phandelver makes nods to Palarandusk without explicitly naming him. Gnomengarde, for example, is almost exactly in the same spot that Ieirithymbul was supposed to be. The crumbling Woodland Manse, as well, is likely a reference to Palarandusk's old home in the Neverwinter Woods, located near the ancient Netherese city of Xinlenal.

So... all these dragons you have been mentioning I've been adding to the lore of my campaign as gods, basically, Dauhrgthoth figured out a way to create children with other dragons, and realizing that he kind of wants to spread his own happiness around, he helps out the other dragons, bringing a certain elf back to life, etc, and all of them kind of realize they don't really fit in that world anymore and search for a new one, being so powerful they no longer need protection between worlds, and find a world with no crystal sphere... so they build one and deal with the four huge residents, which become the land, and eventually they do become gods as they do become worshipped

Palarandusk sounds like the panzer of the lake meme where he is sort of but not really bound to a large body of water and his protection comes in the form of a village elder telling the younglings what to do to survive the winter.
I like to think that people also come to him for his wisdom on whatever happens to trouble them and while he sees them all as children (how couldnt he), he indulges them because he appreciates the jovial chats and the companionship and if anyone asks, he'll say that unpoisoned minds are far less likely to turn on each other and its just another layer of protection he can grant them.
