    I had two sets of those sheets (the daisy one) from 1972. One in pink like the one you are using in this video and same pattern in turquoise. Still have one pink flowered pillowcase and parts of the turquoise sheets I use for everything I need protection from. It still retains its original color and it is very soft! Lol! Now I’m going to make a cover for a junk journal and remember all the things I used it for and what happened the year I bought them. I’m new to junk journaling and enjoying your videos!

I have learned so much from you, but mostly that I can do it ( playing with paper) with reckless abandon. Thank you Pam you are truly a sweet person who creates joy and share it freely. The expression “ Long in the tooth” means “ old.” Comes from the old days when referring to the way they determine a horses age, as their teeth actually grow as they age and if too long can’t chew properly so need to be floated (filed down).

    The repair man was right...don't use old thread. It has lost its integrity. Yes, it has turned into a real scoundrel. It will break so easy and let you down. Just like you have advised us not to use old embroidery thread to sew in our signatures because it can break and the signatures will fall out, so can the old thread break and what you sewed together will come apart. So unless I'm doing stuff that will also be glued down I use new thread. But great project! Turned out very pretty. TFS. Hello to the menagerie and Papa too. 😁

    "Long in the tooth" usually refers to age. It comes from a horse term. A horse's teeth actually continue to grow, even as a horse matures. You can tell how well a horse has been cared for, his health and age by his teeth. My vet always checks my horse's teeth to see if it's time to "float". It levels the horses teeth, smoothing out rough spots to help him eat better.

    This was exactly what I was looking for...I really like the cozy feeling of a cloth-bound book. Your video is so fluid and can be adapted to anything...I giggle and struggle with my tidy-orderly-obsessiveness while I listen to your mouth rattle off and your hands fly...I recognize that is what my brain sounds like all the time to me. It just can't keep up and I get overwhelmed...lol! But seeing you do it...it is comforting. I don't know if that makes any sense to anyone? Anyway thank you very much...you are a precious person!

    Pam, I used my Crop-A-Dile 2 for the first time, bought it at a garage sale for $10. Quite a life saver for me as I don't have strong hands to poke thru the paper with needles or a pokey tool. Easier to sew too. I make my pages all up, decorate, then sew. I make them all for myself so it's good. They are more like remembrance albums of each month. Karen in Minn.

    Watching Pam just makes me feel so good, content, happy ! I have noticed since discovering her a year ago on TH-cam, and the world of journal making, that I never seem to watch regular T.V shows anymore, I'd rather be on TH-cam learning something new, watching Pam is my Favorite because she really just goes for it, lets ya see the Real stuff! For me nothing beats junk journal making, Pam's ability to teach and make me laugh at the same time and cute animals, Best channel on TH-cam!

      I'd come up with the idea of downsizing or writing excerpts from books or magazine articles just the parts im interested in most. I save the cardboard boxes that kleenex comes in and some notebook paper . The binders or edges that hold them together are taped to the notepaper that h as s been cut down. I had one on notes on orgsnic gardening for certain vegetables and fruits and pest control. The other book had similar things with notes from another book. Then the scotch tape holds it together. Next I have a bigger piece of kleenex box cut and folded to form a csse these 2 fit into with matching design.the 'books ' slide in and out with their binders showing. I hoard so many books and just want to lighten up. You can collect these boxes and make many kinds of books such as the accordian kind of miniature books.

    Long in the tooth means old and comes from gauging the age of a horse by the length of their teeth exposed as they age. 🐴.

  • @sherrimakesstuff3112
    @sherrimakesstuff3112 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Skipped stitch: you may need a new needle/clean the lint out of your bobbin box. Also, using the wrong bobbin can cause broken needles and skipped stitches. It also might void your warranty, and they'd have a good case since you published said voiding on the interwebs.
    Yes, thread degenerates over time. It's mostly an issue with garment construction - old, weak thread cannot hold up to a person moving around in a garment.
    For the work you do, it's probably fine to use decoratively, and it's probably not the end of the world to use it to sew in signatures.
    Personally, I wouldn't trust it to sew signatures into my books. At least use an upholstery weight thread for that, or whomever ends up with your book might be disappointed when the threads break and their signatures fall out. It's not catastrophic, it would just be a bummer and I like to hedge my bets.
    For decorative use the worst case scenario with old thread is it might break and get tangled in your machine - possibly requiring a minor service call to get it untangled.
    Oh, also it will shed in your machine and make tons of lint. Clean that lint out of your machine often. Not doing so is the quickest way to bring a machine to an early grave.
    Some corners can be cut in the name of creativity, but be kind to your sewing machine. These modern machines have nylon/plastic parts that will strip/break if overly stressed. At that point you have to buy another one as they are not meant to be repaired.
    If you got this far - thank you for your reckless abandon, and another fun project!

    • @sherrimakesstuff3112
      @sherrimakesstuff3112 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also the skipped stitches could just be because your machine wasn't engineered to sew through these materials, so it's not quite able to make the lockstitch every time. If you've changed your needle, cleaned your machine and it still does this, then I would just chalk it up to the machine not knowing how to sew through paper/chipboard/etc. and treat it like a feature not a bug :)
      I hope my comments help!
