Thank you so much. I've been watching many different FL tutorials and I can usually follow u much easier than most. Your explanations are clear. The zooming in on what u r doing helps. You don't just click things really fast and say "and then... and then... There u go... Easy, right?" 😁. I've been using FL since like the fourth version, but in a really simplistic way and I still can't follow some of these guys. I'm now trying to take advantage of all of its potential. I really appreciate the time you take for clear explanations of not only how to do something but the concept behind it also. Keep up the good work. Thank u.
Super great tutorial, mate! I've found myself coming back here a few times when I forget how to do this properly, or just want to check that my signal chains are set up correctly. It also helps that you know how to present a tutorial that is straight to the point, easy to understand verbally and visually, and isn't cluttered with self-promoting nonsense. Thank you very much!
I've been watching tutorials for over 10 years on TH-cam. You are the first dude who mentions and credits the song at the end. Never thought I'd see that day coming. 99,99% of all TH-camrs should do this, even though that would make Shazam broke. Also nice to see that you didn't force your video to the 10-minute mark, as a lot of others do. Kudos to that man!
Nice tutorial, but one method he didn't mention is using the Fruity Envelope Controller to sidechain. For me, the Fruity Envelope Controller in conjunction with fruity balance (on the mixer channels being sidechained) is a nice way to do sidechaining, especially in genres like DnB where you're likely to have complex non-4-on-the-floor rhythms. This method takes a bit of setting up but it gives you a decent amount of control on sidechaining with complex rhythms once you crack it. Specifically, you can trigger hits on the pattern sequencer Additionally you could use this method in conjunction with a fruity formula controller to automate the intensity of the sidechaining. I used this method in a DnB tune I composed using FL Studio.
DUDE! this is the exact method i was looking for. Just got back into it after a 5+year hiatus and i've forgotten how to sidechain!! If you explain it bro i'd be in your debt.
Another technique is to sidechain certain frequencies only. It's detailed in this video in less than 5 minutes, was very helpful to me: th-cam.com/video/B-bHIn3UqI8/w-d-xo.html
Yo thank you so much this completely fixed my interfering 808 and kick patterns, and also as a side effect eliminated the annoying clipping I was experiencing. Lifesaver.

Great video indeed. 2 questions: 1. - how can one tell how much gain reduction is being applied? Is there some kind of meter I can use? I'm having a hard time figuring out the Fruity Limiter graph lol... 2. - what does the ratio value actually mean?
For me with the gross beat method (and other quick sidechain plugins like Kickstart), I usually use an EQ to cut the high end to remove that pop/click noise that you hear

My favourite way of sidechaining is the fruity peak controller. It gives you a lot of opportunitys and you can experiment with new ideas of sidechaining. Turn the wet level of the eq to 0 and tell the peak controller to put it back to 100% every time the kick hits. I hope somebody can understand my bad description lol :D
Yeah you can control anything with the Peak Controller. One way of doing s/chain compression is to put it on the ratio knob of a compresser (any compresser, it doesn't have to be FL Limiter)
I've always used a ghost kick mostly a shortened 808 with a peak controller. Then inverted automation on a fruity compressor on each channel that I want side chain on
Mike you are just amazing - the sidechaining just improves the sound so much. I have a piano which masks the vokal at around 270 HZ - can I sidechain to Fruity parametric EQ 2. So only using the EQ when I actually sing? Perhaps, a topic for a future tutorial?
