Great Doc. 🤘 I feel back in the early 90's when metal was really putting it's footprint on the mainstream of music, the black album wasn't well received when you compare it to what other metal/new metal artist's were putting out at that time. During an era where bands were pushing themselves to produce louder, heavier and faster than their previous albums, Metallica slowed down which turned off the true die hard metal fans. Then they followed it up with load and re-load which turned into two albums that were a Load of crap (pun intended) in most metal fans opinions. To this day I couldn't name one song from the load albums except for Fuel. When St. Anger came out, I felt like the Metallica of old was back. I may be a bit bias because I play the drums but I didn't mind the snare tuning, it was raw and unfiltered and really fits the music and vision they had for that album. Some Kind of Monster docu with an in depth look at creating St. Anger really opened my eyes to their thought process, insight to their personal/professional battles and it gave me a more profound respect for the album than I had previously. 🤘

Ok so i have a few comments.... 1. Load and reload...I think these two albums were just not understood when they were released. Now that those same fans that grew up with Metallica are now iun their 40's and 50's, we can look back and see how much better those albums are then what we gave them credit for at the time. 2. As great as both Cliff and Rob are, Jason is...was...and always will be Metallica's bassist. He fit the band the best. He filled in on backing vocals 10x better than anyone else. HIs energy and love of the music was amazing and infectious, besides just being a great guy. 3. I actually like the idea the guy mentioned towards the end. As much as I love Kirk, personality wise he doesnt have the...force...the influence the band. He just goes with the flow. If you did take him out and put Dave back in, or maybe had both of them in for a new album...that would be amazing. Id also take Lars out, cause honestly...he can barely play nowadays. Put Jason back on bass. Maybe even bring somebody in to help with vocals cause James' voice has been pretty bad lately. Then and only then do I see them making a good album again. That being said, it wont ever happen and I think at this point, Metallica sticking around is just hurting their legacy.
If you do that then you wouldn't have Metallica anymore but a different band. Without James there is no Metallica. He is the musical force behind that band. He has writing credits on almost every song except Clliff's bass song, and even Mustaine himself, in books, has confirmed this. The one song that Mustaine has the most writing credit is Jump in the Fire, but even that song Dave said that James helped him in crafting the finished product.

Let's be honest i know people like to assume that Cliff would have kept the rest of the band grounded that they would have not changed their sound or style of play but Cliff would have gone along with the crap they have recorded since And Justice for All. Metallica with the first 4 albums were unstoppable but beginning with the Black album just went downhill.
To me Metallica is the drunken, goofy, musical love child of black Sabbath Motorhead and diamond Head. Heavy metal is the punch in the face society needed.

@@adambane1719What point are you trying to prove? It was *because* of their first five albums that people recognized Metallica as a powerful force in the industry in the first place, so when something new came up it would not disappoint too much. What universe are you from? I can name at several metal bands that's “legacy” is from their first five albums. Slayer, Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Pantera,Anthrax, Sepultura…c'mon. Metallica would STILL outsell them all with how successful Load and Reload were upon release! These bands all had a decline in popularity after their first five it seems (except for maybe Judas Priest or Slayer).
I actually love the black black album one of greatest straight ahead metal albums ever what I hate is what the album did to the band it destroyed them being good song writers because that was there last album that was any good and it's the black albums fault and no Metallica was not metal in the 90s pantera was the biggest true metal band of that decade I love around 50 Metallica songs and that there first 5 I don't listen to anything from after black why because it sucks straight up
They had a few hick ups just getting started . Sacking Dave Mustaine and bringing on Kirk H. Even more talented that Dave and he also kept his chit together. What a setback losing Cliff. Jason N. Was great for 15 years then they got Robert T.
This is most asinine journalism I've seen. Most of these critics are living paycheck to paycheck giving their own 2 cents on how the be the biggest metal band ever. 😅
I stopped watching at 42.00 Because they were talking about the Black album but still showing and playing music from and justice. Do better next time. And this mismatch was going on during the whole thing.
pretty much... some songs on those albums still slaps though, if anything at least load albums are a good way to introduce non metal fans to metal as a bridge to black album and later master of puppets and lastly justice :D
The difference is Dave was an ass when he was drunk. He sicced his dog on then-bassist Ron McGovney's car (scratching the side of it really bad), poured beer over his bass and equipment/amp which nearly electrocuted him, had a tendency to get physical or violent when drunk or did drugs, was verbally abusive to James and/or Lars, and punched James when he called Dave out on his nonsense. This wasn't the first time he acted like this when drunk or high, and all this happened in *the same day.* James was still emotional about kicking him out the day they did, and Lars always felt really bad about the whole situation, seemingly having the most empathy towards Dave even at his worst. Dave's unprofessionalism was why he had to go.
@@_PuppetMaster86 Load, St Anger etc.... is a band that dont care about the fans who put them there. Metallica are a total disgrace to their core, and they know it.
@@adambane1719 Totally not. Load, Reload, and St. Anger are a reflection of a band who put out the music that they want to put out whether the fans like it or not and not cater the same style that they don't want to make to satisfy fans for business…like Slayer did.
After the black album Metallica lost their mojo.. then when jason left they really sucked. I only listened to old school Metallica. I don't care if I get hate. Rob sucks.

It's cuz they toured it too long. They should've worked on another record in like 93 after doing just one sort of regular world tour and taking some months off. But hey, they're still living off the money they made on that tour. Everything since has just been bonus
Cliff Burton was a *bassist* in Metallica. He was highly influential to James and Lars and put them onto a lot of ideas and different music, but he did not write an entire song. Those duties belonged to the aforementioned writers. Each member brought something to the table that was their own, and it was never one man that did it all. Hell, even if there was, it would be, once again, James or Lars.

Mustaine made them period two front men would never had worked though so glad he went his own way with megadeth
That thumbnail is so stupid. Words cannot describe how much I despise AI. 😡
As much as I had that love hate relationship with Metallica especially in the 90s were I pretty muched worshiped there first 5 I learned so much Metallica on guitar it's insane but I fucking hated them in the 90s but since those days I come to respect the shit out of that band even with all the hate and people trying to tell them what to do they stuck to there guns yes it all sucks but it was there choice not anyone else I respect that and they still sold millions I think load went triple platinum and reload sold way over a million that shit saint anger sold millions as well obviously they new what they were doing and made choices that really only kept them in the big leagues yes it sucks but I definitely don't hate them anymore and having 50 kick ass song the first 5 is still way more great songs then most bands keep moving Metallica suck if you want but no one will tell you what to do mad respect even for the last 30 years of shit music lol
The ending of this video has not aged well
What's with the silly AI Hetfield for the video thumbnail?
Teeth for days
Take away their first 5 albums.... and this band aint selling out no stadiums today !
That same theory could be applied to any band.
@@jarrodblakely6031 Most bands dont make 5 albums
@@_PuppetMaster86 You're a disgrace to your name here ! You are a pretender mate. A plastic "metal fan"
@@_PuppetMaster86 You're a complete chimp, lol !
''Put Mustaine back in the band'' LMAO!!!!
Damn, that AI thumbnail is ugly 🤢.
Very good 😊
I actually love the black black album one of greatest straight ahead metal albums ever what I hate is what the album did to the band it destroyed them being good song writers because that was there last album that was any good and it's the black albums fault and no Metallica was not metal in the 90s pantera was the biggest true metal band of that decade I love around 50 Metallica songs and that there first 5 I don't listen to anything from after black why because it sucks straight up
They had a few hick ups just getting started .
I stopped watching at 42.00
Because they were talking about the Black album but still showing and playing music from and justice. Do better next time. And this mismatch was going on during the whole thing.
What the fuck is "THE Metallica"?
Not gonna go into the Trujillo albums? Weak.
Its nothing got to do with him. Hes just a hired hand
wtf... kick out Kirk and bring in Dave to make a great album ?
Unfortunately it's not just one member who's a trembling, delicate flower with a carefully curated ego as fragile as fine China...it's all of them.
boring..just another repeating story..everybody knows metallica's history
Load, reload & st Anger = 💩
pretty much... some songs on those albums still slaps though, if anything at least load albums are a good way to introduce non metal fans to metal as a bridge to black album and later master of puppets and lastly justice :D
Jason was the heart and soul of the band. I don't listen to anything after the Black album. They still kick ass but no.
Stutter dude gets on my nerves
There were such a great band until they released Load and Relaod. Both albums were awful and they never recovered from that.
It could have been a great one album with 10 or 11 songs
As if we need yet another Metallica documentary. **yawn**
I think we know all we need to know about Metallica..
Nobody made read nor watch it now 2:27 go back to bed😊
MEGADETH.
MEGADETH
😂
Lmao, "Jason was hired because he played bass well and could drink alot."
"Hey Dave, you're fired because you drink too much.
Bravo Alcoholica 👏.
There’s some people who are fun drunks and some who are not…Dave was not, from all accounts.
TRUE MetallicA fans bailed on MetallicA when MetallicA bailed on their fans in 1991
True fans don't bail on their favorite damn band. They don't know Metallica.
@@_PuppetMaster86 You're clearly not qualified to give an educated opinion on Metallica or the metal industry
After the black album Metallica lost their mojo.. then when jason left they really sucked. I only listened to old school Metallica. I don't care if I get hate. Rob sucks.
Then you are surely missing out on some seriously good metal my friend.
Let me stat😊e mojo is my dog and one blin😊d an he's just fine....N you not so much!
I agree with you John....Rob walked in to the "reformed" Metallica.... After Jason saved the band after Cliff, gave 110%....& got 14 years of disrespect & B. 💩 for his trouble......
It's cuz they toured it too long. They should've worked on another record in like 93 after doing just one sort of regular world tour and taking some months off. But hey, they're still living off the money they made on that tour. Everything since has just been bonus
Death Magnetic is an amazing record
What the f*** is up with the guy stuttering
He obviously has a stutter. What is it with the stupud questions ? Some of you in the comments arent to bright huh 😂
I bet you're the kind of guy that would fart in a taxi cab
Ttttttttttoday jr!
And the English guy with annoying voice/faux hawk.
I bet you're the kind of guy that would fart in a taxi cab
Master of puppets, that's where it's at.
Same than every documentary, old footage and the same guys talking the same than older documentaries
Cliff Burton was Metallica
Cliff Burton was a *bassist* in Metallica. He was highly influential to James and Lars and put them onto a lot of ideas and different music, but he did not write an entire song. Those duties belonged to the aforementioned writers. Each member brought something to the table that was their own, and it was never one man that did it all. Hell, even if there was, it would be, once again, James or Lars.
…And Justice For All is the best Metallica album….and this is the worst Metallica documentary I’ve ever seen!
