Yeah he got tricked by the preceptors but he also went down that path of trying to revive Baiheng of his own accord.

Dan Feng wasn't trying to revive Baiheng, for more details check "The Bloom Born Scion" duology on Lalody's channel (aka this channel), but tl;dr: Dan Feng was actually trying to revive his dragon companion (the one we see DHIL use) because it was killed during the Shuhu war, but the ritual went wrong because of Shuhu's influence, a bunch of soldiers and Jingliu went to intervene but then she went mad (again, because of Shuhu) and killed the soldiers and the corrupted dragon, and then the preceptors tried to spin this tale to explain Bailu's existence (which, also tl;dr: the preceptors/Sanctus Medicus made her), and that's as far as I will say because I don't remember everything else, but yeah. I wouldn't say Dan Feng is exactly innocent either (he was trying to revive someone/something) but Taoran 100% deserves the hate as the person behind all this.
It was also interesting seeing how in 2.4 Taoran immediately sent a lackey to try and start bribing Lingsha since she took up the position of Cauldron master
One thing I want to point out is that the "horn" on Taoran very much resembles a tree branch, which indicates whatever experiment he went through is very likely closely linked to the arbor. Given past events, my theory is Taoran use a method that is an amalgamation of the one he gave to Dan Feng to revive Baiheng and how Phantilya made a herself a physical form out of the Arbor. In the old folklore, the horn of Chinese dragon (or Loong) is shaped like deer antlers, and that is the style of Bailu's horn. Danheng's horn is a modern day jade-like rendition, which is more artistic/romanticized to fit human form. In fact, most depiction of the horns are metallic, jade/gem, or deer antler-like. (i.e. the dragon bosses in Black Myth: Wukong) The arboreal nature of Taoran's horn is very rare and clearly a conscious choice.

Yaoshi definitely has deer antler shaped horns, but I think it's also arboreal in terms of material. It is very interesting since both deer and ginkgo (a common abundance motif) are considered symbols of longevity in Chinese tradition, albeit pine and biota are more widely used than ginkgo. IT'S ALL CONNECTED!

Never been this early to a Lalody video before but SO GLAD THAT TAORAN WAS NOT FORGOTTEN. the way the plot has gone with the borisin, surely we get some great reveal here where his machinations are exposed.... all the elements are building up to it... the stage is set.....
Something occured to me while I was thinking about this at work. I think Taoran wants to be High Elder. If you think about it, his motivations aren't too clear. During the Preceptor meeting he went out of his way to fight against a Preceptor counsel, which would have given them more political power. He claims it's because of tradition, but he clearly doesn't actually care about that or why has gone out of his way to lead Dan Feng into Sedition and shared vidyadhara secrets with the IPC. It's clearly not because of the declining population or else why risk vidyadhara lives like that. He was also the one most insistent on stripping Dan Feng of his scales and taking the secrets of his weapon. To the point he brought the IPC to Dan Feng's cell. Something that could NOT have been easy. No, he wanted that power away from Dan Feng, and I don't think it was because he wanted MORE High Elders. I don't think him having horns in the trailer was an inconsistency in the lore, I think it was a CLUE. I think that Taoran is experimenting with High Elders because he has ambitions on becoming one, if not THE High Elder himself. I think Bailu was just a test in the experimenting on how to turn EXISTING creatures into a High Elder. And that he may be Team Bailu in vidyadhara politics not because he's against Dan Heng taking over as High Elder, but because she's a pawn in his eyes, someone filling a seat until his own transformation is done.
Literally my first reaction when I first heard him refer to himself as Taoran was, "PRECEPTOR TAORAN?! As in Preceptor Taoran?! Nah, move over Feixiao, there are much more pressing matters at hand."

Calm down, even as someone who diss the entire High Fraud Quintet therefore by extension Dan Fraud, it is not entirely his fault based on the current evidence. There are more than one factor that lead to the event, read this TH-camr and her friends theories and you will understand that it is complicated. However, I do think that Dan Feng deserves to be deemed a criminal because he challenged the established rules which to don’t change Xianzhou status quo with the Ten Lords commission approval.

Calm down, even as someone who diss the entire High Fraud Quintet therefore by extension Dan Fraud, it is not entirely his fault based on the current evidence. There are more than one factor that lead to the event, read this TH-camr and her friends theories and you will understand that it is complicated. However, I do think that Dan Feng deserves to be deemed a criminal because he challenged the established rules which to don’t change Xianzhou status quo with the Ten Lords commission approval.
