You can use whatever kind of salt for your water softener you like the best kind of water softener salt to use for your salt tank is the Mortons because it is a cleaner salt than the others. I would recommend the Resup if you have iron in your water or you can't always remember to put salt in your salt tank since it will help clean the media beads if you are low on salt

Coarse solar is the best. Pellets tend to turn to mush over time
Great information, we use only the pellets, the crystal makes the brine tank dirty and I don`t want dirty water used to clean my softener.
Aspen Water Solutions makes good sense to me
@@LowCostWaterSofteners I heard that pellets make paste like thing and clog the pipes? Is it correct. I am trying to find the best salt for my GE Avantapure
Amit Khade it’s true a paste will be made however if you think about the process the salt dissolves into the water and the salty water is drawn into the tank. As you can see in the video the Morton’s is the cleanest salt you’ll be able to find another is sunbelt but is only sold in bulk if I remember correctly
What type of salt do you use when you have nitrate in your private well water.
Because all pallets are pressed, they can break down and are more prone to clogging your system. I see that you assume that because Morton’s is the whitest that is because it’s the cleanest, but I guess you are not aware that Morton’s uses a starchy type of binder that gives it that bright white color, but also creates a massive cement cake in the bottom of your softener once it breaks down and can damage your system, and cause you to have to replace it.
Should I set my water softener at CL or ACL when I am using the Morton green salt bag for rust?
Thank you for the question Josh, I am not familiar with the ACL setting. I do know that the NACL is for salt and KCL or KACL is for potassium. That being said you can probably set it for NACL or leave the setting alone since it is probably pre-programmed for salt. Personally I don’t think it really makes a difference. I hope this helps you and if not please ask more questions. P.S. don't forget to subscribe if you haven't
I've been using store bought salt crystals to do weed control. I am wondering if salt crystals will also cause soft sugar sand in Florida to be more firm and stable for driving over?
I too use a handful of pellets with a gallon of vinegar and a 1/4 cup of dawn to kill weeds. I think with all the rain you guys get it may just wash away. I would think you could use a bag of mortar mix and drive on it like normal until it rains
Is there a difference in performance between iron fighter vs Morton rust defense
No sir, however you may find this a little better a.co/d/0WyoObU
I was told the glue in the pellets gum the injectors up in the head and to use the crushed type?
I was not aware glue was used if at all, it was my thought that they were compressed into a pellet. I have never seen the injectors gummed up in the valve, ever. I do know that the pellets are more likely to create a salt bridge in your salt tank. I don't know who gave you the information you provided, but I would consider it incorrect based on my 15 years experience. Thank you for your comment, I know it will help those who read this info. : )
Do I still need to use the res up if I use the mortan salt version that helps remove rust/iron?
valetudo025 you’ll have to see which one works best for you and which is most economical. I have never used the green bag I always used resup. You may not need either unless you’ve got 2 ppm iron or more. Let me know how things turn out please. I hope this was helpful
Low Cost Water Softeners ok thanks, I have 12 ppm hardness 🙁
valetudo025 it’s not the hardness that is the problem but iron. Is someone telling you that you have to have resup? Also do you know what brand of softener you have, it’s size and salt setting?
Low Cost Water Softeners I just got my water softener in today, I bought the one you recommended from the amazon link! The flick 5600 48k grain. I have 1 PPM iron ,12 GPG hardness ,7.5 PH. My home is 4 occupants. I haven’t set it up yet. I was just think about the res up because of the discoloration in the toilets but you’re right I will first try it without it. I was recommended to also purchase a 20” home filter from culligan because of sediment, is there any other large home 20” filters on the market that you recommend? Not sure if I want to be married to culligan on the filter element. Thanks, you’re DIY videos are great!
Thank you for the info, you won't need res up. As far a a filter goes are you on a well or city water? Normally if you have plugged up faucets and take them apart and find "sediment" in them it is only calcium that has broken free so you really don't need a sediment filter if that is the case, if however you are on a water well and you are getting sand then that is a different story. Chances are once you install your water softener you'll find that your "sediment" problem will go away after about a month. Also make sure that when you are installing or having your water softener installed that it is in bypass until the water has been turned on and run out of a faucet before putting it into service because if not you will get PVC glue or solder into the valve and into the piston seals and spacers and then you'll have another problem. Pleas let me know how it all goes. :)
Richard Miller.
Any reason you don't discuss potassium ?
Richard Miller very good question. Only because of the price. It went from around $8.00 a bag to $26.00 a bag just about over night when they shut down 1 potassium mine and so most consumers chose to use salt or began to investigate salt less systems
Nice video and explanation. thanks! I use the iron filter even though I have an acid neutralizer...might be overkill?
My water became way too slippery. TDS meter reads at 200 (after the acid neutralizer and water softener) with high PH of 9+). TDS read after the RO system cut it to 13.
The TDS reads in the house are higher than the row well water. Im confused. soft/slippery water should have low TDS read.....
It sounds as if you don’t need a neutralizer but if that’s what you want to do that’s OK, if your TDS is 200 that’s great if it’s 13 after the R/O that’s because you have a membrane that makes it lower it will bring the TDS from 200 to 13 and that’s what it supposed to do, you sound as if you have it all together sir. 👏👏👏
@@LowCostWaterSofteners Thanks. the TDS of the row well water is around the 160 (there about) but the TDS doesnt tell me what sort of particles were counted for (before and after the filtration). Is it possible to adjust the level of the softener and acidic neutralizer?
Sean typically it is either sodium or calcium or both if you find the water too soft then you can try putting the neutralizer halfway in bypass and see how that works and then you can do the same with the softener a week later then adjust accordingly to your preference
@@LowCostWaterSofteners You mean it is caused by the acidic neutralizer, not the softener? i thought it was only the softener that can do that to the water
Sean i used a neutralizar years ago and the lady said it was too “Slimy” so I had to take it out
Good video
those hands holy shit. at first I thought it was the camera angel. nope just more hands
I was told never use pellets
