Very interesting video. I remember watching the Amazon documentary with my parents when it originally went out on the BBC. Hovercraft have always been in my blood as I have always lived in Portsmouth and my Mum took me on the SRN2 when it was on passenger carrying trials from Eastney beach. Even now, on my many walks on Southsea seafront, I still stand and watch them arriving and leaving as the fascination never leaves you. I used to belong to the hovercraft society some years ago. It's good to know where this craft has ended up.
Lovely to know this hovercraft still exists. We travelled on it in the late '60s and early '70s from Portsmouth to Ryde on our annual holidays. My sister and I used to try to get the front seats so we could overlook the gangway to watch the pilot at the controls. Maybe that pilot was you...?
A friend of mine David Ellison who was the photographer on this expedition sadly passed away a month ago,I inherited his many photographs and am at present starting to sort them,I watched the film of this one winters day sitting in front of David's fire listenng to his account.David was also the creator of Further Tales of the Riverbank Starring Hammy Hamster, but as David would have said '...but that's another story'
We travelled on this craft with a party of scouts in the early 70s I am at present making a model of an SRN6 with the history of hovercraft is there a picture of the brass plaque I could have to go with the history as we take our models to country shows during the summer
Brian Moore Please contact Mike Granat for a photo of the plaque, I don’t think I have one. IM or email me (hoverbucks@yahoo.com) for his contact info.
