    *** I unfortunately forgot to show a step in the process, I apologize. The spacers that I cut and used when I installed the center dividers, the ones that I clamped to the top and bottom. Afterwards, I added pocket holes to each of those at the ends, and I screwed it into the back of the 1/4th from top and the bottom. This keeps those center dividers, evenly spaced, and from bowing since I didn’t put a back on the cabinet

    I have built out a lot of service trucks in the past - and have a few to go. Using Big Box stuff that just goes away or changes really sucks when you have cut wood, or welded aluminum to your build. These are the perfect solution. Thank you

    I dig it. I too am a bit organized obsessed. I’m Team Red, so I have PackOut for my tools. But for my camera equipment…I may be in…I’ll definitely link from your page whenever I make the leap.
    Just went to the site. You may have mentioned it but didn’t realize they are made with recycled plastics…even better❤

    While you were loading the full size crates, I was wondering about splitting it vertically. One video on their site shows that you can use the smaller dividers on the bottom, put a mat on top of them and then more dividers on the top half. Good option for things that you would need infrequently. Like you said, this isn't a solution for everyone, but definitely a good option. - Chris

    I love the concept of storage like this, but those crates are quite expensive. The same could be achieved with cheaper totes from big the box stores. Still a great build though.

      Sure definitely, I was just really drawn to the built-in organizational abilities on these crates 👍

  • @WoodyWoodworker

    You should add a support in the middle of the build. It's already bending towards the center.
    My feeling is that the price is a bit high for these crates If I compare them with other boxes or crates. I used to use "really useful boxes", you get many sizes and they are sturdy, although I have to say that after many years (10+) some of the boxes start cracking (I never had them exposed to the sun, but they still start turning yellow and cracking).
    Most Box systems don't have a nice inside divider or storage system but that can be fixed by 3d printing or building some dividers out of wood. But if someone gives me these crates for free, I will take them

    • @BitnerBuilt

      There’s a pin comment at the top, I mentioned earlier in the video that I was going to reuse the spacers as rear supports, but I forgot to include the clip or I attached them. My apologies, but it does have support all through the center in the back for rigidity.

  • @yossiyaari3760

    great video. love the crates.
    is there anything stopping dust from getting in through the handle opening?

    • @BitnerBuilt

      On the bottom crates, the dust can’t get in, the handle openings are closed. They do sell a insert for the other crates that I ordered it didn’t come in yet that closes the handle opening on those as well

  • @Kami8705

    How much racking does the unit have? That was my thought when you were talking about not putting a back on it, its not going to have as much side to side strength. I also would want the sides sitting on top of the base so that the strength isnt coming purely from the pocket hole screws. Maybe thats just me though, it depends on the type of work they are being used for. Cool idea and nice execution with the drawer slides. How much did you end up spending on it in total?

    • @BitnerBuilt

      So I pinned a note, forgot to show the step that I added the spacers to the back as bracers to prevent the racking (I showed them when adding the dividers) I did the sides on the outer because of the decorative top I’m adding next, wanted the sides solid without the top and bottom end showing. For me it was two sheets ply $100, (some extra scraps I had around for some of the shelves) 12 slides($98), and around 25ft of trim ($25), feet with mounting plate $60 so in all on the cabinet around $300. Could be done for $200 without the slides but I am happy I did it, the functionality is what I cared about and it’s perfect for that. Obviously then you add the Sidio cost which all depends on how you kit them. I honestly like the $25 half size the most, almost wish I had done 3 rows of those and one row of the full size I also think most people wouldn’t add the mounting plate and lids for their application but again great for me

  • @craigsimons2217

    Great video! I really like this, and will check out the Sidio system for a future organizing project. Quick question: did you find the carcass stayed rigid with just the pocket screws? Or, once it was fully loaded, did you think any kind of anti-racking support was necessary?

    • @BitnerBuilt

      I’m kicking myself because there is a part of the video that I left out, the spacer that I used when installing the center dividers, afterwards I screwed them in the back of the carcass as supports to keep it from moving and that gave it a lot of stability. I mentioned doing it, but I didn’t actually show it. I need to make a note in the description about it.

  • @BenM81

    Hey, brother, quick question. Would building my own dividers out of 1/4-inch maple plywood or something similar work? I realize they won’t lock, obviously, but I’m wondering if they could slide in and out or if there’s some proprietary mechanism that might impede this. Thanks.

    • @BitnerBuilt

      You can definitely do that, they just won’t lock in place. You could also 3-D print them. People have files up for free for those which is what I ended up doing for some extras.

    I like the storage containers, however, I was concerned when I saw that your were not dust free. I went to their website and they now have the weatherproof bins. The cost is very reasonable.

    • @BitnerBuilt

      They have a handle closure accessory that I ordered that just wasn’t in for the video. So you can either add that in or go with the weatherproof hinged version of the lid that I used at the bottom (there’s also a 3d printed option)

    I love the concept; they need to cost less

    • @BitnerBuilt

      Not cheap but there’s a lot of other stuff I compared it against that’s more so all comes down to what the use case / needs are. If they hadn’t sent them out after asking I would have still bought them as it was exactly the solution I wanted and couldn’t find anything else with such tight spaces dividers

    • @forestbirdoriginals4917

      @@BitnerBuilt I mean, cost is all relative right? But it’s a quality home storage bin. 70$ per lidded crate with some plastic dividers is pretty insane. How does the average person distinguish this from a larger 20-30$ lidded tote without dividers? Or 15$ metal reinforced milk crates?
      I think the price on the large, lidded one with dividers needs to get down to 40$ or so.
      I’m sure it’s high quality, but when birch plywood apple boxes are cheaper, it’s kind of eye opening

      There are a ton of solutions out there just or more expensive like Milwaukee packout (averages 90 a container) all depends on what your needs are.
