  • Sometimes projects get put on delay when we find something interesting aboard the Aurora. While digging in the forward hold we found an interesting small safe. The contents get more interesting when we dig deeper.
    Thank you Acenew for sponsoring this video and providing us with an excellent Portable Power Station. IF your looking for a top notch and VERY Portable SOLAR Power Station then check out my review half way into this video

    Hello! Somebody probably already told you, but the pitcher is for hot tar to pour in between deckplanks when caulking. The cotton you found is also for the same purpose. First step is to drive the caulking cotton in between the deckplanks with a caulking iron. Then you pour the tar over it and let it cool down and set in the joint. Thats why the pitcher is so pointy. To get a good narrow line of tar in between the planks. Keep up the good work!

    The triangle metal pitcher thing I've seen used to apply hot pitch / tar along a seem. Kind of like a caulking gun in principle.

    Could that triangle thing found in the hole be a pitching vessel? To pitch (tar) the deck board seams... My guess anyway... Costco also converts 8mm film to dvd or blue ray at a price, of course.

    • @AuroraRestorationProject
      @AuroraRestorationProject  ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Disneyland history is highly coveted nowadays. There are so many who would love to see the photos on those slides and I'm sure they're worth some money as well. As for the late 1940s video footage, there's a huge community on TH-cam right now preserving and HD'ing, 60fps'ing old footage and a large audience of those who love watching with wide eyes the old footage. The 1949 and 1952 (Stone Harbor beach scenes sounds really intriguing, actually...maybe it's the Stone Harbor in New Jersey?) footage would be really cool to see.
    On another note, the fireplace looks...lit! It blends in really well with the room!

      Singer we are getting lots of comments about what’s in the film and slides. I will definitely see if we can have them transferred to digital. I think it would be interesting to see if one of these groups could upscale them as you mention. That would add a bit of intrigue to the process.

    You used to be able to BUY sets of slides - I still have some that my parents bought back in the 50's and 60's. I expect that's what you found.
    And VIEWMASTER Disks! - 3D pics were AMAZING.
    And I think those boxes would be 8mm movie film! REVERSABLE means that you load the (unexposed) film into the Movie Camera - take your movie, then (in a dark room) you REVERSE the film, and take it again. Each time through only exposes 1/2 of the film, and when it's sent for developing, they split the film, and it doubles the length of film. I have a BUNCH of home movies filmed on it, and I still DO have a movie camera AND projector for it! If they are labelled, they are probably exposed, but if they are UNEXPOSED, they could be valuable to someone who HAS an old 8mm camera.

    If you suspect that the notebook has survived from the German times of the Vessel, I might be able to organise someone who can read 'Fraktur' and 'Sütterline'
    My Mom was on Your ship as a kid when it was still called the 'Wappen von Hamburg' as my Familie had strong connections to the island of Helgoland.
    If You ever get to Germany, You should visit the island. Only Downsite: It will probably cost You 2-3 days of Your time as a single Day visit is not really worth it.
    I am sure You would still find some people on the island that had been on the Aurora in its past.

      @@AuroraRestorationProject My 2nd guess is it was kinda like one of those time capsules people burry in the ground for a long time. People generally put in culturally significant things in there though. The film, book, and slides could qualify I guess. "A time capsule is a collection of items that paint a picture of what things looked like in the past. It’s meant as a form of communication with the future and whoever digs up the capsule." We burred one in school at one point. Occasionally people unearth them and it ends up in the news.

    My dude, there is some fascinating stuff there! The book looks really interesting - is it from the 40's? What is it? What's on the films? Those are potentially really valuable just from a documentarian standpoint. The slides as well.

      Haven’t looked into the stuff much other than making the video. I think the next couple of days I will dig in and give a valid attempt at seeing what’s on some of this stuff and giving a better explanation in a future video. The book seems short. Like 30 pages. Maybe a short story??
