      Ok so the years possible for Thursday 4/20 are 1950, 61, 67, 72, 78, 89, 95, 00, 2006.
      So it's probably 1995, maybe 2000?

      You’ve gotta wonder did they lose the key & that’s why it was locked or did someone lull themselves in this room & they locked it afterwards?!

    As a long time carpenter, I sit and literally wish I lived near this vessel. I would spend every minute I could spare helping to restore the Aurora. Not for any other reason than, I love to watch this very transformation. Very often before starting a project for a customer, I will sit and let them tell me what it is supposed to look like. This allows me to absorb their vision and then I can apply my craft. in the end, I have always treasured the reveal and the reactions the home owners present when seeing their project completed. It never gets old.
    BTW, that hallway is amazing. Of course I could sit and ask a thousand technical questions about how certain things were accomplished but instead, I will just say that you did an amazing job.
    Jemma, as always, is really great to watch as you just can't match her enthusiasm and drive.
    In closing, thank you Chris, for you passion and drive to preserve this ship. Such a monstrous undertaking will be your life's work and with God willing, you will one day, give the inevitable command of, "Attention Ships Crew, Secure all Moorings"!!!! Keep the videos coming, love to watch the projects being completed.

    That cabin reeks US Surplus! I know it’s a crew cabin but I have slept on those racks on two vessels. An converted WW2 lst that served on d-day and a training ship that was built in the 1960s from our countries oldest merchant Mariner college. That’s a good place to nap!

I just came across this and a couple other videos and I have subscribed as you see. I am the lady who was asking questions about the SS Oceanic/Bog Red Boat/Floating Medical Ship. I thank you for your response. I was sure it had been scrapped by now. I wish I were there to see this in person because I love cruising so much and it is so interesting to see this ship come to life. I will try to keep up with it now, but I leave in 19 days on a 12-night cruise, so I will return. HOPEFULLY 😁

Most expensive carpet you can buy, but well worth it because would last 4 times as long as Axminster carpet, Solent Carpet Factory was part of Royal Wilton Carpet in Wiltshire

    One tool that you may want to look at is the. makita 36 volt track saw for accurately cutting wood panels…..it cuts any angle as cleanly and accurately as a panel saw, has a thin blade and eliminates the need for extension chords. You simply place the edge of the track where you want to cut set the depth of cut and slide the saw down the track. We have a custom millwork shop and frequently use this tool over the panel saw especially for trimming doors. Great job by the way

Starting with my 1st go kart, 1st motorbike in the age of 14. Biked went bigger and cars were add. Two classic boats were kept alive. An American old timer RV, some pick ups. But NOTHING compared to your guys project. I knew I need to follow that project. Hopefully I will be still alive when it is done I hope you guys do not run out of power, time & money. Wish you all the best. Regards from Germany.

    A plywood cutting tip is when cutting with a circular saw. Locating your cut line as normal then adding a score with a utility knife just at the edge of your planned cut location. This reduces the splintering of the wood surface.

    9:29 While it doesn't have an exact date, its still possible to narrow it down quite a bit. The first portable CD Player (Sony D-50) was released in 1984 And there were only 4 years between 1984 and 2008 were the 20th of April fell on a Thursday: 1989, 1995, 2000 and 2006.
    I would guess that the note is from 1995, as the AURORA was owned by a Christian sect during that time, which used her as living quarters for converts. This would explain how the note ended up on the ship.

    • @0zzy5856
      @0zzy5856 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Funny, I did the same “detective” work with the calendar dates but I would guess either 2000 or 2006 since the escape plan on the wall is dated 1997

    • @pauld6967
      @pauld6967 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@0zzy5856 The christian sect only owned her until 1998, when the USCG seized the ship. Afterwards she was, as far as i know, more or less abandoned until Chris bought her.

    • @mrfrenzy.
      @mrfrenzy. 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@0zzy5856 The note could still have been from a trip made before the escape plan was updated. I think most likely is 1995.

    • @Troppa17
      @Troppa17 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I think the note has to be from 2000 than. This sect seemed to owned the vessel between 1997 and 2003. The D-50 was $350 which is about $1000 today. Portable CD Players had their peak popularity in the mid to late 90ies when their got affordable and integrated ESP which made them more compact and a gave them a decent runtime. And the escape plan is dated 1997.

    Fantastic project and one which deserves serious subscriber numbers. The dedication and attention to detail is a credit to Chris's vision and one I hope we can all share. Assuming that for many reasons, the Aurora cannot be returned to "commercial cruising", I would like to hear Chris discuss the various options he has or is considering for her future. It seems a shame to restore her as a static time capsule as a floating museum however, the cost of getting her seaworthy under her own power would seem to be enormous if not impractical. Even if that were possible, without the income from paying passengers, her ongoing operational expenses would be prohibitive (even if she could be brought up to Lloyds marine specs. So Chris, please share your thoughts and plans with us.

    Dont forget about railings in the halls for rough seas. The hallway turned out amazing.

    I really like what you’re doing with the Aurora you are bringing this ship back to life! A lot of work but it’s gonna be so worth it in the end! You just earned yourself a new subscriber!
