    I could have tried magnesium but my little Teddy passed in 2010 of tracheal collapse and probably other severe things. I didn't know he was in such bad shape when I adopted this tiny white poodle who was an angel. I went through hell but glad I had him for those six months because I'll have him forever when I get to Heaven. 🥰

    Dr. Jones my sister used to suffer asthmatic spasms of airway. Recommended topical magnesium oil (concentrate magnesium chloride, Lifeflo brand) is transdermal (as is magsulfate). Total relief within minutes.Applied to throat and upper chest. Not using inhaler anymore. MD Carolyn Dean, book Magnesium Miaracle. We so appreciate your advice. Thank you for looking beyond pharma box remedies.👋💌🐕

    My dog has tracheal collapse he is a dachshund 8 years old. I've treated it with everything you listed and it'll get a tiny bit better but just comes right back he has a very sensitive stomach and he's a picky eater gets diarrhea very easily. This is important last month he pulled a muscle on his back and I had been giving him massages and epsom salt baths. His coughing went away and I just now realized that period when it went away was when I was giving him the baths.
    Thank you whoever recommended this. It's a good thing he loves a bath! I'll get him some good supplements also.

      How much epsom salts in the bath? Do you just let him sit in the bath? My dog has a cough too, im so nervous for him. He coughs alot in the middle of the night

    • @jillw892
      @jillw892 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TeeLee919 since his legs are only two inches long I put the water right up underneath his belly. I probably put about two cups of Epsom salts because it's a full size bath. Now my dog is well behaved and he did not lick the water don't let him drink it it will cause diarrhea.
      I just got a cup and I kept pouring the water over his back from the back of his neck all the way down to his tail. It's salt so don't get it in his eyes. Just be gentle hold their head give him a wash rag to lay their head on. Go easy, cup the water over their back and just let him sit there and soak in it for a while and give him some sugars.❣️

      I have a jack russell with collapsed trachea. I was wondering if your little guy throws up alot and if so did the salt baths seem to help that as well or just with the coughing ?

    • @jillw892
      @jillw892 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nancywilson6250 He never threw up with the coughing. If you've ever had a cat it was more like that like he's trying to get something out of his throat. I can honestly tell y'all I've spent big money had him tested for everything! Allergies from food to mold and everything else. One vet told me he thought he had a mucus problem but that just wasn't it when he gets too excited he would just start this dry hack like he's coughing something up but nothing ever comes up. Maybe 5 coughs.
      Since I posted my comment I have given him two baths and we've gone 2 solid nights with no coughing ❣️🙏
      I'm just so grateful for the doctor's video. Sometimes we get busy in life with our kids and everything else our jobs.. and it's hard to find a good dog food with the right nutrients for your particular kind of dog. Buster was the runt. When I rescued him from a puppy mill he had every parasite a dog could have. He ended up with colon damage from all the hookworms and it hurts him to go poop or maybe he's scared of it I really don't know I think it's more like PTSD because dachshunds are very smart and sensitive. I cook his food . Rice veggies and krill oil with a little meat. His coughing was so much worse before I started cooking for him. It got better but it still lingered a cough just pops up out of nowhere. Check with your vet because maybe your dog has some acid reflux and maybe they could take pepcid don't listen to me please go to your vet for proper diagnosis and treatment.
      But we must share what we learn. Dachshunds have a bad problem with their backs especially if they're overweight. Buster is a little overweight not much he's a light eater. Matter of fact he just let out a cough now because he was chasing the birds barking at them. But I'm going to just continue giving him a bath every 3 days from now on for a while and we'll see how this works out. Being overweight could cause a lot of acid reflux is the point I'm trying to make. And or the food you're giving them. Best luck to you my friend 🐕❣️🙏
      Let me know if you have any more questions I tried to cover everything I could think of.

    Can i add something I've used? Hawthorn leaf, bark and berries extract. It strengthens the heart. I had a young dog with a heart murmer. He didn't like to walk far. But i carried him when he got tired. He was about the same size as Tula. Every evening he coughed up fluid until i put him onto this extract. He lived almost 11 years without the need for medication, just giving him one 500mg capsule of extract every day. If we ran out occasionaly, he'd start coughing a little within days, but stopped once on them again. It helps people, too. Keep them coming Doc. I love natures meds. I like magnesium malate - no tummy issues.

    Hi Dr. Jones, my dog was observed through x-ray to have an enlarged heart, inflamed bronchi, and swollen liver (maybe Cushing ‘s disease). One liver value was over 1200 (post steroid treatment). He was overweight also. So we changed his diet and liver values were cut in half. I am giving a liver supplement now and an arthritis supplement. He has lost some weight and fat pouches have disappeared. His coughing continues. Is there anything you can suggest for the coughing (the vet gave me hycodan) to make him more comfortable at 15 years old? Thank you. Jim D

    Why are vets so quick to advise you to put your dog down? I’ve talked to 2 vets about my 8 year old fur baby . It seems they have zero bedside manors . The one vet only answer was to go to a Cardiologist . Wouldn’t even this of putting her on any heart meds . Wouldn’t even consult with a cardiologist that was trying to help me . It cost $1,000 to go and the test . I’m 68 disabled on Social Security that is almost my entire check . It wasn’t until I had someone from Bandfield Foundation contact them . They agreed to have another vet look at her . He didn’t give me much hope . He said she could die any time . I thought I’m glad your not my doctor . If you had your way and was my doctor I would of been dead years ago. Are vets so numb to the value of life ?

    My dog has had a bad cough for years now, nothing will stop it, it’s every time she moves basically. She’s had xrays, Ultrasounds, bloodwork, seen about 8 different vets still not concrete diagnosis. Slight trachea collapse and slightly enlarged heart but neither is bad enough to cause a cough. She also pants almost constantly and has labored breathing constantly. The closest they come is some type of bronchial issue, COPD, bad lungs. I wanted to ask for opinions about my dogs situation. I have a husky almost 3 years old, very active runs, plays, eats and poops well, lots of energy and she's crazy like every husky. But she's had this situation for more than a year. She constantly coughs, nothing comes out ever, very dry cough. And she reverse sneezes a lot. Very often. We took her to different vets and they all said allergies. We tried Benadryl, didn't really notice any changes. We did an X-ray and nothing came out of ordinary, all good. She has all of her vaccines and everything up do date. Last Vet tried giving her prednisone every other day and it helped. It was so good listening her play and walk just fine without that cough.
    The moment we stopped giving her prednisone, it came back. We didn't want to give her prednisone again because I know that's steroids and giving her for too long is not recommended. We have plants at home but we keep them out of her reach. We also used to have for wall plug in with scents and we removed them just in case. So what do you think is going on? I would really appreciate your help.

    Thank you! I have a fog with a cough, sometimes he coughs only when he starts walking, other times when he is simply lying down. It seems to have subsided to only when he’s up and about. I had another dig with a similar cough and the Vet prescribed hydrocordone. I’d rather not give that to this old guy. I had also tried CBD for dogs and it helped the other dog somewhat. Where would you suggest getting that magnesium you mentioned? Is it found in a regular drug store? Thanks again. I just came across your channel and am catching up on videos and all your advice.

    My Yorkie is coughing, but I think it's from an upper respiratory infection. Antibiotics have not helped, nebulizing him, but he's a little overweight and older, so he's not getting a lot of exercise, so I was doing a little bit of research and found that NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) breaks up mucus, so I am trying that on him, mixed with a little water in a syringe. You can also sprinkle 1/4 of a 600mg capsule on their food.

    Had my dog in for coughing two days ago. I wish I could post video. Hes been doing it awhile but it became much worse over night. I tried honey and warm water and it helped a bit. Vet said its either a collapsed trachea, COPD even though he's a non smoker just like me. Or kennel cough. I have other dogs and they don't cough. Hes taking cough medicine and has settled. So, vets figures likely COPD.
