    This guy is the real hero of youtube, all the DIY garbage 20 minute videos and ads - and I just need an overview, the fastest I've ever dropped a FWD trans.

    Charlie, I can't thank you enough for posting this video. Just got my transmission to the floor, and if it hadn't been for your little trick, this would be a four or five day job just to drop the transmission, as opposed to the one-day job I just did.
    First transmission that I've ever pulled, too.

    I finally got it done Charlie I just had to get some help to mount and line the transmission back up it was kind of hard to do it myself but the clutch when you release it to go it's almost all the way off the floor before it'll take off is there still air in the line somehow I've bled it quite a few times

    Comments are off on Dodge Avenger video. I have a 08 avenger 109,000 and every little bump it rattles in front end. Never thought of looking at subframe but now I must. I thought maybe axle is loose. Just wanted to say thanks for last video🙏

    Great video Charlie!! Mine is ready to come out. I have one last thing to disconnect. Any tips on disconnecting the vacuum port on the front top side? I don't want to mangle it. Thanks

    Hi Charlie, I'm about to have to replace the rear main seal on my 2005 Pontiac Sunfire (same thing as yours, basically) and I was wondering if you have any other tips and tricks you can share for this specific job.
    I'm a lot more confident about being able to drop the trans now that I found your video, but I've never done a rear main seal job before. Anything I should really look out for?
    Thanks!

      When you take the main seal out wipe the area real good clean on the back of the seal you will see a dip in and a round spring pack that with grease it helps you from not pushing it out when taping it in make sure no grease gets on the outside of it that holds in your motor. Tap it in straight go slow put in straight and flush and it will work great 👍 also if you have trouble they sell a tool to help you put it in thats up to you be careful take your time and it will all work out.also you can use red grease or black some people use Vaseline not muchit just help you from knocking that spring out just make sure the outer round part is dry of the seal

      I also want to add. If you do end up cutting the subframe to remove transmission, spray a couple coats of primer/paint where you cut to prevent deep rust.

    another question sir the piece that you cut off the subframe do you have to weld it back on? and do you have to use a ball joint Buster to take out the ball joint and tie rod

    • @charliesgarageusa4986
      @charliesgarageusa4986  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      jason campbell you can weld it if you want I did not put mine back on don't really need it and yes I did use a buster but sometime you can tap them with a hammer on the side and they will come out just don't hit the threads on tie rod or ball joint

    It would be easier to take out 3 bolts to lower the cradle instead of cutting it, no?

    • @charliesgarageusa4986
      @charliesgarageusa4986  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could takes longer and you run the risk of snapping a main bolt then a lot of money getting that bolt out or off to the junkyard the car goes up to you.👍

      There is a little lip on the frame like 2 in long make sure you do not cut past to hole that holds that little piece of subframe in a saw saw is what I used

    • @charliesgarageusa4986
      @charliesgarageusa4986  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      jason campbell You could use a hack saw with a good steel blade works the same as a saw saw just take a little longer good luck hope that helps.

      Charlie james but you actually have to pull the transmission completely out there's no way to just unbolt it and move it back is there not enough room? sorry for the questions I just never did it before and what do you actually cut the subframe

    • @charliesgarageusa4986
      @charliesgarageusa4986  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      jason campbell Jason there is a piece of subframe you unbolt on the subframe where it bolts go in front of that bolt hole and cut 2 in off that subframe look on video where I cut it you have to take the trans out but if you don't cut that little piece off you have to drop the whole subframe and them bolts could break off in the body watch the video again you can see where I cut the subframe

      Tyler Asay your welcome to ask anything on here if you like.

    • @opulentwipebathe
      @opulentwipebathe 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you have any problems removing the piece of subframe that stretches from the front bumper to where you cut that 45 degree piece of frame off. The bolts attaching that part are slightly larger than my 13 mm and 1/2" sockets but too small for a 14mm or the next standard size. Did you have an issue or just me?

    • @charliesgarageusa4986
      @charliesgarageusa4986  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tyler Asay take a wire brush to the bolt head spray PB blaster on them let them site for about 15 min should come right out try to use a 6 point socket on them it grips better I think it was a 13 mm socket

    • @charliesgarageusa4986
      @charliesgarageusa4986  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tyler Asay Also take the 13mm after bushing the head of the bolt off put the box end of the socket or wrench on and tap in on better with a hammer should knock the rest of the rust off 👍☺

      Got all the bolts out of the bell housing and went to drop the tranny and it's sticking to the motor. Even with a stand under the motor it won't drop any tips? Took off the 3 bolts in the mount by the fire wall and I think 5 out of the housing
