  • Dr. Marcia Sirota talks about the difficulties with treating and diagnosing Bipolar II Disorder, as opposed to Bipolar I Disorder. She invites everyone to ask the right questions and to notice the signs that may indicate that someone is experiencing symptoms of Bipolar II Disorder. She compares both disorders and notes the differences, and why one disorder may be harder to notice.

As a bp2 I love mania. It’s the only time I feel normal or can get anything done. I’m not sexual so that part is good.

Wow . I learned something new @ 317 am .(don’t sleep well ) I thought I was doing really well for about a year now . Without any depressive episodes . Watching this … I know know why I’ve been angry and snapping and then so remorseful . I really thought I was in “ remission” from this monster called bipolar . Thank you for this . I’ll will be able to recognize when I start getting agitated what’s really going on . I was misdiagnosed for 12 years . I was told by 4 different doctors that I had MDD . I can’t wait to show this to my husband . ☹️

I’m in the process of getting diagnosed and medicated. Truly wondered for a long, long while what’s the matter with me. Lamictal helped a lot but I got the rash and had to quit. And don’t forget we usually have other psychiatric diagnoses as well to complicate things.

I was diagnosed with bipolar 2 disorder in 2022 after 15 years of being diagnosed with major depression but I also have a hard time communicating with people which includes my psychologist, after many sessions of me actually telling her that I was feeling this way and then that way and I wish I could just blow my head off and it would be over

Trust me if I was in America or somewhere I could easily get a 🔫 I would. I don’t see this life ever being a happy fulfilling one and I’m exhausted.

The more meaningful challenge is bipolar 2 vs. ADHD.

Ah, thank you for this video. I had my first “episode” at 17 years young. I’m currently 24 and decided to refer myself back to a psychiatrist after having another “high” episode this week. I’ve been being treated for generalized anxiety disorder, but I think it’s time to open up about my behavior and take necessary steps for treatment.

Great video. The best I've ever heard someone describe my dsyphoric hypomania. Clonazepam isn't helping as much as it used to, do you have suggestions for new meds? I take Wellbutrin in the morning and Escitalopram and Lamotrigine at night too.

The idea that there are two general categories may help many. The fact, however, is that there are dozens of bipolar types and we'll probably never classify them correctly. For the brain is far too complex, and the superpowers that come along with bipolarism are far too misunderstood.

I have been diagnosed by a psychiatrist as possible type two bipolar. Unfortunately all the medication’s the side effects most the time are worse than the disease. Now I’m gonna be 67 and I’ve been living with this all my life and I’m on Medicare and there’s no psychiatrist and they don’t cover that, any suggestions on what I could do?

I might have bipolar 2. During the high, I'm (relatively) super productive for a week or two where I usually have a hard time sleeping. Then after the two week high, this baseless anger comes on (dysforia state maybe?) that I have to keep an eye on. But this feature only comes on maybe one to three times a year. Doesn't seem to be associated with seasonal depression.

    sleep/eat issues.
mental healthcare in this country has been terrible.Let's talk about the adrenal response. It feels like don't get too excited otherwise you can't move for up to a few days.

It doesn’t have to be up as in giddy, energetic, euphoric, inspired, productive etc it can also manifest as pressured speech, thinking too fast and tight rumination’s, might fuel OCD behaviors, sensory overload from simple things like music overhead at the market will cause a sudden mood change, any kind of impulsive behaviors like spending, even studying, I would get super fixated in studying and time would stand still and next thing I knew it had been 8 hours of me researching just for my own knowledge nothing related to college or anything like that. Agitation, irritability, hypomania can be a precursor for feeling anxiety and on edge. Caffeine will heighten hypomanic. I’ve definitely been all over the map with mixed features, dysphoric mania and incredibly inspired and motivated to work on hobbies and crafts. On the one hand it’s an indication of being gifted gone wrong. All by brilliant ideas and projects I’ll start with a really good push and make good progress and then comes the crash and I won’t be able to pick it up again for months. It’s a major curse and a blessing.

I lay in bed for three days trying to force myself to sleep while feeling miserable and anxious and terrified :/ still haven't figured out how to manage it but just got prescribed Seroquel and buspirone so hopefully that helps

    • @loraliecataldi1975
      @loraliecataldi1975 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

@@jenniferthompson2293me too Jennifer, I now take the Seroquel for the sleepless nights, Buspar worked for me a long time ago and then it lost effectiveness so now when I feel that anxiety from feeling too activated and over stimulated coming on I’ll take a .5 of Clonazepam and it will reset my central nervous system and then use the Seroquel to get a good nights sleep and I seem to feel more steady. My hypomania I notice the most in my thought life, thoughts start to spin faster, rumination increases and anxiety and fear start to consume me. It takes serious intention to self regulate and get the thinking back in a better place where there is more hope and staying in the present which is really hard to do once the ruminations kick in.

Hello. I'm looking for any advice. I'm in actual pain. My BF has Bi-Pol 2, and doesn't want meds. He tried something many years ago and it wasn't effective. So he's discouraged.
He says that he's had this dark/heaviness before he started talking to me last year in July. I'm scared/sad For him and sad for me. I would love to hear what are some good bi2 meds or cocktails you guys use.
So our relationship is in limbo. He says he must get through this himself. 😢 I just don't see how since it's already been several months. 😢Thank you. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
