This is just what I was looking for. Thanks a lot for the information! Do you happen to know how many shots with fully charged power bank you can shoot? I'm trying to do 5+ hours star trail without battery draining.
Thank you for watching! It's model 2086 but I think it's it's been discontinued for sometime now www.smallrigreseller.com/smallrig-cage-for-olympus-e-m1-mark-ii-2086.html
What about powering the camera while on? I am looking to do timelapses, and just have the camera powered, (with battery installed) from the wall charger.
I just quickly tested the MacBook charger and the camera definitely reads it as USB PD and I was able to turn the camera on and use it! So yes it definitely will work! Just in case the charger matters. I’m using a 2016 13 inch base model MacBook Pro so it’s the 61 watt charger.
Excellent! Thank you for testing that! Since my timelapses will always be close to a power outlet, this would be much more convenient rather than making sure yet another battery is fully charged.
Hey Robert! I'm sorry to say, the Mark II does not have the newer USB-C protocol to be able to charge it. This is strictly a feature for the E-M1 Mark 3, E-M1X, and the OM-1. To be fair, the E-M1 Mark II was released in 2016 so this simply wasn't common to have back then.
Thanks foe your really useful short videos Alpaco. I have an EM 1.3 and when I use it for video, I wish I had a cage to grip it better. (And have the option to mount other accessories like you have with the external monitor at times). I see you use one. Can you share which model no. Etc and anything else you have learnt because buying online is scary when there are so many similar ones, and none specifically say they fit an EM1.2 or 3. Thanks Malcolm
Hey Malcolm, I'm glad that I've been able to help you! This makes me extremely happy to hear. Regarding the cage, I purchased this one in 2017 when I purchased my EM1.2. It's model Smallrig 2086 but unfortunately I believe they no longer manufacture the cage for it. I'll search to find a possibly alternative that may suite this as I get loads of emails and requests about the cage. Again, thank you again!
@@AlpacoFilms thanks very much. And also for your tips and tests. This one about running the mark 3 on external power addresses some pretty poor explanations by olympus. Who make great gear but don’t always explain the operational detail and limitations very well.
Hey everyone I wanted to share that this Ravpower battery bank works to power and charge the Olympus E-M1 Mark III. Which is a great deal for $50!

Sorry for the long delay! I've actually gotten a bit more than 7 hours of shooting with this setup and this is mixed between photo and video!
@@AlpacoFilms Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it so much. 7+ hours is more than enough XD.
Now I did turn off from time to time but yes! Definitely worthy feature to have!
Very very very usefull ! Because I found another model but too expensive, this one is perfect ! Thanks !
You’re very welcome!
Hi, very useful information. I have a question. Do you know if there is a sun charger for Olympus M1.3 batteries?
I don't think there is one. But, you can grab a Solar Battery Bank which I find to be MUCH more useful as you can charge multiple gadgets
Great vídeo, i was wondering what's the modelo of smallrig that You used for de omd em1 markiii?
Saludos desde Bolivia

Have you used any wall chargers to do the same? A lot seem to ramp up too slowly, and cause the same issue you had with the USB type A charger.
I have actually used my MacBook Pro charger to charge it and it’s did charge it fairly quickly I believe.
