Thanks Tim, a good video to watch. I was unaware of the rolling shutter scenario so I will look out for that. When using Procapture High, I initially set the camera to manual focus, I am pretty confident this prevents further focusing. I have used this for in flight images where the bird is attracted to bait and I focus very precisely on a piece of wire to which the bait is attached, this works pretty well.
I have fun taking pictures of my Anna’s at my feeder. I have used Pro-Cap H a lot, now I will try Pro-Cap L just based on this video. Thanks for explaining the differences. One comment, please clean your feeder spout it is dirty and it isn’t good for the fast movers.
Tim, thanks this was a very good Tutorial. I just started using pro-cap this morning. My goal is to do all birds-in-flight pics this week so this was perfect timing for the tutorial. Thanks
Good info, some I didn't know. I always use L mode rather than H mode but that is more to keep from having so many images saved. Also glad to see I'm not the only one struggling with very high shutter speeds with very high ISO ratings. E-M1 II w/ 75-300 II lens
Great minds think a like Tim, that's exactly how I have my cameras set up for pro capture. I don't use it that often but when I need it it's great to have!
Two corrections Tim. First, maybe the E-M1 Mklll is different, but on all my OMD cameras (M1, M1 Mkll, M1X) the default button for the Super Control Panel is the 'OK' Button, not the LCD Monitor Button. You may have set yours up to toggle the SCP. Secondly, Pro Capture L does work with AF Tracking (including AI Subject Tracking), but Pro Capture H does not. Pro Capture is so cool -- thanks for the video.
Hi nice demo i followed the steps but am doing something wrong will appreciate your advice after selecting H & all steps when tried to shot i dont seem to see the sequence of all shots only by by one what am i doing wrong?since it 60 fps i suppose to get sequence shots right?
L pro capture is supposed to focus with every shot, but I am finding, as I think you are, that with quick birds, the AF system is not quick enough to refocus if the bird leaves the focal plane of current focus, is that right? Is there a way to get better focus using L pro cap?
This video was really helpful. I went out and practiced. And the video has helped me troubleshoot one photo of a cardinal with dreamily soft-focused wings. It's really pretty, but I'm going to bump up to at least 1/2000 and F8 and use CAF. I was thinking the CAF would slow it down. Thanks for these helpful videos.
Kindly asking for support because I have problem with my pro capture H in OM-D M1 MK2. Pro capture H recording photos only when I push button to the end , in half way button not recording photos 😢 earlier was correctly please help.
Are you always using electronic shutter in the hi capture modes then? Didn't see you really discuss that (unless i missed it) but did notice you warn about rolling shutter. Interested in hearing your thoughts on normal shutter vs electronic for the same use case as in the video.
I noticed more rolling shutter at high shutter speeds with the electronic shutter. I'm planning another video comparing pro capture L to silent sequential L (burst mode) in the next few weeks. I do not use H modes since that mode only sets the focus on the first frame.
It would be a dream if Flash worked with Pro Capture. At least, Pro Capture L. Yah, I know... would result in some dead flash batteries pretty quickly LOL.
Hi Tim thanks for the explanation. This weekend I was trying the pro capture mode L which is set for 30 images and I think 5 with Cedar Waxing. I use back button focus and I think I hit the shutter a few times because boy did I get tons of images. What is the best way to do this with back button focus? Do I have to change to shutter release. I set C1 as my short cut for pro capture. Thanks
Hi Regina, I did a quick search in the M1X manual and it won't work with the AF Tracking selections, so if you're using Tracking of any kind that could cause it being grayed out or if you have enabled Anti-Flickering Pro Capture won't work. HNope that helps. Tim
Just subscribed to this Channel! I like the video, good little tutorial! I saw you're using ISO 6400 here, so wanted to know how you're dealing with the noise you get at this ISO? It's really good treatment!
I run the images through Topaz Denoise AI usually just leave it on the auto setting. It's been working pretty good for that. I shot some at ISO 12800 and those looked good too. Pretty neat software!
That’s cool! Looks like it works well for you! I should try some at high iso, I’m a Lightroom user but also have DXO photolab which I got into quite recently, meant to work pretty well with Olympus cameras!
HI, sorry for the late response. I use manual mode and Aperture Priority mode depending on the situation. My default when photography birds is to use Aperture Priority Mode.
The OM 1's and the OM M1X I believe. Everything as recent as the OM 1 Mark III? I think you might need to goggle the olympus website to make sure though. I'm no longer a Featured Photographer with Olympus.
Hi Tim. First, thanks for the video. I watched a second time today as a pre-sales person considering a purchase of the EM1 MkIII. I was a little confused about your explanation of how the pro cap loop works. You said that when the button is held half way, the first image in the loop is deleted and replaced with a new shot. I think that would mean that the first shot in the loop is always up to date and the other, say, 29 stay the same. My logic tells me that the last picture in the loop would be deleted and the new shot placed first. They way all the shots are current and the very oldest shots, which are of no use, would be removed. Please explain.
If you have a 30 image loop, image 1 is deleted before image 31 can be added. The oldest image is deleted and the newest one saved does that help? After the news today maybe it's a mute point.
@@GodwitMediaLLC Ok, on that. I tried Pro Cap for the first on our currently here trip to Cape May, NJ Tried different combinations and noticed some limitations immediately. One was the buffer. After one attempt, at even manual shutter and H and about 35 pre and about 35 post, I filled the buffer and had to wait. In fact, after every try at different settings, I always filled the buffer. I also found that the amounts weren't enough, so I chose Pro Cap High and got a few shots ok, but waited for the buffer. Lastly, I was shooting from a blind in a small circle of view, which were both great for my 300mm Olympus I am testing, but I had to use ISO from 10000 - 12800+, so I will have to use DNoise. Now, the mitigating circumstance was that I had set RAW for both cards 1-ops, 2-backup, and then all by itself, it changed to JPG. So I learned where that was and changed it to RAW. A day or two later, I went in to RAW+JPG, so I went in again to select RAW and RAW was disabled and all the other choices were showing. I was forced to choose RAW + Standard or Normal? JPG and the RAW. With 2 cards duplicating, I assume there was stress in the buffer. I know where RAW is, but does anyone know how/where I can see it Available?
Great video . . .Just received my new EM1 Mkii . . . can't wait to try Pro capture

Thank you, sir! Now I know why there was focusing problems on H-mode (: Gone for L- mode next time.
Ok. Good tutorial. Now I need to go and try the pro capture mode
It's fun!
I use BBF on the AEL/AFL button. Pressing that button means C-AF. So I presume I only can use Pro Capture L?
Thanks for an informative video!

Great video. Do you know of a remote shutter release that you can do a half press with when using pro capture ?
NO the two I've tried so far don't do that, but it would be great!

I would love to use it if it wasn't grayed out on my EM1X. Even with the Pro Lens 40-150, it is grayed out.

@@GodwitMediaLLC No AF Tracking on and on Anti-Flickering checked. I will continue to search for the answer.

Thanks
Tim. Good video - thank you. Does it work using back button focussing or should I put it back on main button for these shots?
Hi Richard have you worked out whether pro capture works with back button focus thanks 😊
I can't figure out how to enable pro capture low is not highlighted
high works fine
Are you using an Olympus lens? Pro Capture Low only works with Olympus lenses, other brands like Panasonic will only allow Pro Capture High.
Maybe I missed it, but are shooting in manual mode?

Tim, does pro cap produce raw files or jpg only?
Is that affected by Low and high, and 30fps and 60fps?
Both I have it setup for RAW, but it will shoot jpg if your camera is set on shooting jpg instead of RAW

Pro capture on Nikon system ???
To my knowledge Olympus norNikon have this but you might check their mirrorless options.
You said you want more frames in the pre shutter than in the frame count, but you example show 30 pre shutter and 40 frame count. Is this a mistake?
I think I should have set it to 35 pre and 5 after the shutter release. That would have given me a few more frames to work with.
