i disagree that abella's moonscorched form has no bearing on her personality. The extremely muscular physique and masculine build i see as reflecting a repressed insecurity about her perceived lack of femininity as a result of her personality and profession of choice
I always thought that was a pretty standard analysis of her predicament. Miro made one of the objectively prettiest women in the game and created her to be tough out of circumstance from the war, something she had no control over but still took to it out of necessity. Would she have been a conventional woman during a time of peace where men weren’t at the frontline of trench warfare? I’d say it’d be probable. I’ll go further to say that if I was a man during the 1940’s and was forced into taking on a feminine role, I’d definitely be insecure about it. Even a guy I know in today’s day and age who works as a nurse feels some type of way, even though he’s astounding at his job and improves the lives of others in ways many aren’t cut out for.
@@tarinvernon7007 Yeah it's been hilarious these past few weeks seeing shlubby, never played a sport dork types, body shaming professional athletes 😂 calling literal supermodel pretty women Manish just because they are stronger/faster/etc than them
@@mattmolloy636 I think they're referring to how some men are reacting to female athletes in the Olympics. Some men are feeling threatened and try to make of fun women athletes that are winning medals. Some of the insults include calling those women 'mannish' for simply being fit.
Hey! Great work, man. You clearly understood what Jung was getting at and this video demonstrates it. Nice work applying the concepts of ego-inflation/shadow possession to the various Gods. That's something I completely neglected to include in my videos, but you did very well!
hey matt. i enjoy your content but you ever gunna do lore videos with more just ingame info and stuff and less real world philosophy. i enjoy your voice just interpreting the lore in your version without constantly hearing about yung. not that i dislike philosophy just kinda feels like a repeat
The only thing I think you might have wrong is that the player character in FH1 and the contestents in FH2 have special souls. Souls are your astrological sign in the game, and according to Miro on twitter, have as much influence on your life as people who believe in horoscopes think astrological signs do. They kind of reflect your "default" response, but you can still act against you soul/sign. Everyone's got one. Miro's even somewhat recently posted a chart of which months and dates of birth coincide with which soul.
Yep, and the reason why the soul stone of most non-boss enemies and bosses of FH1 is probably because the darkness of the god of the depth mutated them. As horoscope in real life has the scientific basis of star light from constellation shines to human. Soul of Fear and Hunger might be the result of light from the sun, moon and star (represented by traces of respective gods) affecting human. Lesser souls in FH1 is the captured of these lights, the reduction of the light by the darkness of the god of the depth that dehumanizing them into monsters.
Astrology is very real you can go into any community of or ask any light worker or shaman or esoterists.. they'll say the same. Horoscopes relate to that like any fuckin charlatan does to the niche they try to imitate. They're just broad statements and bullshit but to think that these massive bodies and celestial objects that are made of the same shit we are wouldn't influence or effect us in some way is actually just kinda dumb.
@@OneManCast it is not he doesnt have moonscorched form. Dan is just "empty", deep within his visage as a doctor he doesnt have any drives to be anything thus when it come out, it just a blank canvas that an Old god's servant such as Pocketcat can step in and fill in the blank
I personally think Abella and Daan's moonscorched forms do represent their shadows. Abella's being her anxieties as being percieved as too masculine or brutish, and not feminine enough for society, seen in her muscular build and male dominated profession, and her moonscorched form's massive frame, lack of breasts and phallic trunk coming from it's face. Though she seems the least insecure and one of the kindest out of the contestants so maybe the woodsman's parasite applified her transformation. It also makes sense with the motif of her transformation as it literally is the woodsmans genitals. And daan being the pocketcat is the cruelest joke played by rher as his parents were sylvian cultists who wanted to "share the gifts of sylvian" with him, implying that he was potentially abused as a child. His lover was also killed during a ritual to the gods, and so becoming pocketcat is a complete erasure of not only his personality but an inversion of his history. Pocket being an implied child abuser and servant to the old gods. Amazing video as always, keeps me sane during long shifts.
Way back in the 90's, the fandom had alot of psychologists and occultists. It still shocks and amuses me to see modern Persona fans and think to the long form debates on... oh... the impact of the conscious self on reality within the scope of conceptual reality; delimited by personal perception and conception.
I also thought that Abella's moonscorch form was pretty obvious. Why would the community decide it has something to do with the Woodsman? She is a woman working as a mechanic in the 40's, she probably has a chip on her shoulder about her femininity ala Nouto from Persona 4. She becomes a muscular body with a TRUNK. Gee, I wonder what a TRUNK could symbolize...
Indeed What’s the first thing people see when they see you? The face. And what is it they are almost assaulted by when seeing Abella’s moon scorched face?
Miro has also related her design to the Finnish phrase 'elephant in a china shop'. The elephantine features are also probably a reference to the namesake of her moonscorched form: Chaugnar, a Lovecraftian deity.
Ending B always had me theorize that Rher might very much be there still. Perkele could be lying about Rher having left, or it's possible Rher tricked Perkele to think this, being a trickster god and all. The moon comes down immediately after Perkele dies, and it does say the moon god lost interest as the fight ends, since clearly the human who killed Perkele is not a real threat. The sulfur gang each pretty much guard the bunkers for Logic, so unknowingly they are doing what Rher would want them to do, hold back humanity from ascension. I don't quite remember if the festival also just happens to take place where it does, or if it's caused or needed there, it just seems awfully convenient that Rher's power kicks in and turns the potential birthplace of an ascending god into a battleground to halt everything. Otherwise Kaiser could've just activated it without any interference, because that was his goal. He fights us because he's worried we'll disrupt it awakening.
similar to the god of depths that unintenionally helped to birth the God of fear and hunger, i just took it as such that rher fell in the same destiny, since he collected the participant's mind and talk to them using perkele in the participant's dreams and a lot of them were like, "yow wtf was that. lets use our common sense and not fight to the death in front of this train"
Regarding Abella moonscorched form besides the probable parasite thing, there are also a couple of elements that could be linked to her "shadow" self: She works as a mechanic, a mostly masculine environment and despite being a nice lady, her moonscorched form being very "manish" may be a reflection of that. And that would include the elephant thing, because I'm pretty sure the finnish version of the "bull in the china shop" saying uses an elephant as the animal. So her shadow image of herself is this brute lacking in elegance or femininity
A bit of a correction, synthesis between the Persona and the Shadow is a common thing that is supposed to happen repeatedly. A never ending cycle. Consider the example of someone who thinks themself as a nice guy, but is actually a huge creep. When confronted with the True Self (the creep, his Shadow)... His Persona breaks, and he must synthesize his Shadow into his new Persona. This gives rise to a new Persona, but since people are people, the Shadow remains. A full synthesis of the Shadow and Persona was theorized, but such a being would be akin to a god, and as such isn't likely possible within humans.
if you're interested in this the persona series especially persona 4 dives into these sort of things as it's based on Carl Jung and his book about shadows and personas
I think the most generous interpretation of Rher is that he would prefer humanity to carve out their own place in the world, instead of intruding on the realm of gods. "You guys can do anything you want as long it's over THERE"
It really interests me that said by Gro-goroth's traces, that the old gods are too pure for this world, that humans will never reach purity, especially the wannabe new gods specifically aiming to achieve that power for themselves, yet Gro-goroth is described as a "curious god" and was believed to be disguised among mankind. Is that not a similar ambition? Rher too, a jealous god, having their servants kidnap children with potential. Like the moon god was nervous and anxious of the thought of a new world order. Alll-Mer is the og ascended god, well before the girl who is the only other instance. At the end of the C ending we meet the Sulfur god which is believed to be Alll-Mer's banished hatred for humanity. This can easily be written off as the old gods being that of the most pure traces of what's left of humanity's primal instincts, ideas, and ambitions, that we as the mortal audience can't comprehend. It's just fun to think about what we should and can not imagine. Amazing analysis, I love the way you document. And the best part, Miro is not done yet.
I'm 55 mins in and I wish you painted the Old Gods as concepts and forces of nature. It made things much clearer for me. The God of Fear and Hunger is interesting from this lense because, instead of a force of nature, she's a force found strictly within living beings. Destruction and creation know no bounds, but only the living experience fear and hunger. In this sense she's the closest thing to a pure Old God, unlike Alllmer, who's more of a perfect human. A juiced up new God in a way. Powerful and influential, but still at odds with his own ego, unlike the girl.
While the text seems to support Abella's infection, I can also see it as her seeing herself as a working animal. A brute relative to the dainty live she would prefer to live.
Elephants are kind nurturing parents to their youngs. They are very grateful for the people who rescue their calfs who fell in holes too. Abella is caring like an elephant.
it is quite funny that the very act of seeking divinity in this universe means that you are by definition, unworthy and unable to become a true god, instead receiving a corrupted Apotheosis into a 'New' god due to ego.
Cocoon is a special case because it's the only instance we see of *two* moonscorched people sharing a single body: Marina and her dad. We know that Rher had access to Marina's dad because Samarie brought his remains into the Rher dimension. Option B would be that her dad had such an impact, that her mind actually manifested a copy of him. And it's out of the question that there's 2 people in that body: the thing got 2 completely separate lifebars. You take her out, then you must take the cocoon itself out separately.
I suspect there is another group of Gods who I’d like to dub Enlightened or Free Gods. Gods that have ascended through going beyond human limitations by embracing the nature of their soul. Both Enki, Nostramous and Ragnvaldr have achieved this form and refused to the the slave of the gods.
I only just recently learned about Fear and Hunger, and yet I am very intrigued by the lore, ideas and concepts at work. I am presently working on a dark fantasy title set in an epoch similar to the Second Industrial Revolution. Fear and Hunger has instantly become a big inspiration for my world building. This video is very helpful to my work! I really hope I can get my series off the ground so I can share it with others!
I've been absolutely devouring FH lore for a long time now and it's hard for people new to the lore to deliver great analysis. They mess up a lot of small things (and that's ok, not trying to hate). I had high expectations given your stellar track-record with Souls games and solid approach. You absolutely delivered. I'm excited for your future FH vids. I may have understood all of this but it felt worthwhile to watch because it was well presented and structured. Great work brother.
Everything that I've heard about these games lets me know that I wouldn't enjoy playing them, but I'm absolutely fascinated by the lore of them. It's good to see one of my favorite lore channels digging into these monstrosities to tell me about the good stuff!
I love how I've been a long time fan of your souls analysis vids. And the algorithm showed me so many fear and hunger vids which i ate up, despite never playing the games. And now here you are, providing me another insight into something i was becoming increasingly curious about ❤
I like that Tanaka had the glass embedded all in his head and trailing off into his arm, where you can imagine what his original thoughts might’ve been regarding what he should be, taking form in his moon scorched self, who apparently shattered the glass ceiling from being such a profound salary man…
I remember when i first found this channel with lazy sunday lore. Definitely one of my favorite lore-seekers, glad to see you found this game and your channel has grown so much since then.
Incredible work on this! I just got into F&H recently, too, so i love the fact that you made this video loll. You always do your research really well and explain things in such an easy way. So glad i found your channel lol
@SmoughTown you deserve it! Your hard work really shows. I love that you collab with other creators, too. I'm already excited for the dlc lore videos lol
It's interesting when you find out that two of your favorite pieces of recent fiction ("graylock" and "fear and hunger" ) are both heavily inspired by the the same thing, in this scenario jungean psychology.
Also I had a thought please someone say if it makes any sense but : If old gods are like or are the fundamentals of existence doesn't it mean that the idea that the new gods cannot install change is in fact reverse? Because fundamentals of existence are the only thing that does not change. Like a circle 🔴 no matter how we call it, how we understand it and perceive it it's factuality permanent. Nothing will ever change what it fundamentally is or will ever erase its existence. Even if everyone who can perceive circle 🔴 dies the circle will still exist, just without any imperfect/unstable variable to perceive it in some way. So if old gods are like circle 🔴, a factual, fundamentally undeniable state of existence they are in fact perfect. In other words the idea of change if foreign to their nature. They are facts of reality, they are always the same, can't get better worse, less or more effective as they are technically a perfect beings/the fundaments of existence. So they are the ones that theoretically couldn't change anything as the fundamental idea of change is incompatible with them. So the only variables that could potentially install change must be imperfect as only imperfection can lead to change, ergo it's not the new gods who cannot make any changes to the world, as the only ones who truly cannot do that are the old gods. If you read it through the end then thank you for hearing out the ramblings of a random madman on the internet. Please share your thoughts if you have taken anything from what is written above and good day to you fellow voyagers of this virtual existence.
@@EDEN-xj3qm I appreciate your perspective on the subject but I think you're missing an important part: the New Gods are trying to change those very fundamental forces, or at least add new ones into the mix. The most the New Gods can do is change Society, and even then their changes are destined to fade away with time. But they WANT to make Permanent changes to the very nature of the world, which is something they are unable to do because they don't have control over those fundamentals, nor could they EVER gain control of them. Other than that point though, I am inclined to agree with your perspective.
You always make good stuff, but this is one of your better videos. It feels like you got excited about learning something new in this, and I like this energy.
The amount exclamation points that filled my brain when I saw you made a fear and hunger video... thank you father smoughtown for the food looking forward to more if you end up making them
32:33 funny thing about le’garde. He is not a new god. He died in the dungeons, his partner D’care would resurrect him in the S ending and he supposedly becomes a vampire of sorts, there are some small references to such but nothing concrete. If u throw I believe a poison vial at him his skin peels off and reveals the red skin.
I've seen theories that he DID actually ascend, and that the explanation for the red skin after the poison is just cuz he's using blood magic in the same way the head priest did. Evidence includes them both fading away into fleshy goop after they're defeated (which we know is blood magic), the player being able to find the priest ALIVE in the Wodden World after he gets stabbed & supposedly killed (although, he's kinda... fused himself to a bunch of corpses and made himself completely immobile as a result so I bet he wished he wasn't), and the fact that Le'Garde's behavior pattern and dialoge in Termina doesn't really line up with the way he's shown to act in that ending. In that ending, he's said to come to life and immediately scream "I AM A GOOOOOOD!" and go on to be a completely bloodthirsty warlord who basically has ZERO compassion or thoughts other than "kill everything." But as the King in Yellow, as Kaiser, he's not really showing that type of behavior in the amounts he theoretically should be. Sure, he's committed atrocities, and we watch him kill people in-game, but he only attacked those two characters AFTER they attacked him. And on the atrocities, after Kaiser got ahold of the village where Logic was he IMMEDIATELY called a cease-fire, which doesn't really line up with that ending's Bloodthirsty Warlord status. He got what he wanted, nothing else mattered, peace became on the table. A Vampiric, Bloodthirsty Warlord who only cares about killing and conquering isn't about to call a cease-fire for ANY reason, let alone when they haven't actually conquered everything they can reach. Also, it doesn't make sense in the timeline if you look closely, & that's cuz of Moonless. Her master, one of the playable characters in F&H1, has a descendent in this game, and his goal is to kill Kaiser because he KNOWS who he actually is. But if Le'Garde died in the 1st game, why in the ever loving F••• would that player character pass down this knowledge to his descendents? Dude thinks he's dead, meaning he would think his revenge is impossible, so he would have NO reason to pass this knowledge down. Only two things could explain this away, either he found out he was resurrected and started passing it down, or he didn't find out meaning he would have NO reason to do this but decided to anyway (which wouldn't explain how any of his descendents figured out Kaiser was Le'Garde, nor would it explain why they'd even take the story seriously enough to do something about it). But there's a small problem with that 1st possibility: if he found out Le'Garde was resurrected, why not go kill him HIMSELF? Why instead play the long game and pass down the knowledge for someone down the line to do it? But if Le'Garde ASCENDED, God only knows how long he was in the Void. By the time he came back, the God of Fear and Hunger was already being worshipped, and since only ONE person witnessed her Ascension, and he freakin DIED before making it outta the dungeon to actually TELL anyone what happened, somebody had to go in there afterward and discover her in the 1st place which, again, God only knows how long that took. Again, when Le'Garde was ressurected, he screamed out "I'M A GOOOOOD" meaning he already thought he was one by that point which makes it unlikely he went to the throne to actually Ascend, he probably booked it outta the dungeon to start killing & conquering ASAP. So more than likely, he wasn't even a New God when he started that s•••, so any kind of special knowledge needed to weaken/kill a New God (like the green arrows) probably wouldn't even be nessesary. Bro could've just walked up in battle and cut the guy's head off, and he would've had Moonless helping him so I doubt he'd lose that fight. Remember, this is the same man who's S ending was him going out with Moonless and murdering damn near every monster in existence, he would not have had that much difficulty with a regular dude who think's he's a God, or hell, even an ACTUAL New God assuming Le'Garde did take a detour. The atrocities he would've been committing, there would've been PLENTY of people willing to gang up and fight back, meaning Full Party + Small Army at the very least. But like I said, if he Ascended, that PC would've known what happened, would've known Le'Garde was alive, and at the very least after waiting a decent amount of his life without this dude showing up again he would've known he COULDN'T get his revenge himself. So he would've passed this knowledge down to his descendents so they could avenge him later on, and possibly get more knowledge on the New Gods' weaknesses to use against him. This is the ONLY outcome that makes sense with the context we have, and to top it all off, there's also NO EXPLICIT EXPLANATION as to why Moonless is in that village, she just randomly shows up to wreck our s•••. She could've been going there because of the Festival, but that's a bit outta left field with no evidence to support it, or she could've followed said descendent to protect him, but he doesn't seem too suprised she's there all things considered so at the very least he knew she was trailing him. But what if they were BOTH going there to kill Kaiser? The Festival happening was most likely pure coincidence to them, something they weren't expecting, but they knew DAMN WELL Kaiser was gonna be there for one reason or another. How they knew, we may never know, but Moonless was initially hostile to the party until that descendent stepped in and told her they weren't with Kaiser, and immediately backed off after he told her this. She's out there assuming everything is a threat, and I kinda doubt that's cuz of the Moonscorched. I mean, she was wrecking the s••• of our party SOLO, and depending on who was in it we had GUNS, Moonscorched were probably child's play. Not only that, but as far as we know, the Moonscorched might not have even been attacking her at all given her ties to the God of the Darkness. Anyway, not really important, my point is the Moonscorched probably weren't a threat, but she saw these regular humans she didn't recognize and immediately assumed they were with Kaiser, because by this point the only regular humans she had likely encountered in the city were Kaiser's forces or possibly the descendent assuming they had met up prior (which they might not have even done due to either the train crash or just... not knowing the other was going out there in the 1st place). And if they're with Kaiser, they're the enemy and potentially in the way of getting to him, so they need to go. Anyway, thank you for coming to this f•••ing Ted Talk of a rant, if you actually read this whole thing I appreciate it. If not, honestly, don't blame you a bit, I've been typing this for like an hour & I doubt I'd read something this long either 😂
I feel Abela’s moon scorch reflect a sense of self hatred for how manly she had to be to make a difference as a mechanic. Dan’s seems to be more due to his arcane connections and the traces of Rher taking special interest in him.
Great video! abella's form is likely due to the juxtaposition of her masculine physical form and her love of romance (she comments on this in party talk a few times) I think she is aware that she's not very feminine for the era and that comes out in Chaugnar and irt the player souls, there isn't an actual reason the player moonscorched are stronger, miro has said on twitter he didn't really think about it. The difference between "lesser souls" and named souls is mostly just gameplay Really enjoyed this video though, well researched
Bethel is short for Bethlehem and God of the Depths was 'born' after the throne stopped working. Forgive me but I had to take my chance to get those ideas out there Hope you're doing well btw. Jones too if you two still talk
I fell in love with F&H2 when I saw the twist ending for the Machine God. In a nutshell the ending was the most modern idea ever introduced into their universe: The Internet. Think about it, a collective hive mind of human ideas all interconnected, archived and accessible. Able to be understood regardless of location, nation, religion or culture. Pretty deep incredible stuff for a indy game.
By far, the coolest and most comprehensive Fear & Hunger lore video I've seen. Definitely my new favorite. Max becoming the Ouroboros of his content was so cool too, getting the confirmation that his videos inspired the sequel game was awesome. Love your videos, Smough, you're doing great!
For those curious about the game... It's brutal. It's unforgiving. And it's extremely frustrating. I went in blind and got reset a good six times before I figured out what the hell I should NOT be doing
Ok, so I’m on my third watch now, and I think this is one of your best videos. It feels much closer to a video essay than straight lore. We got jungian analysis, a thesis which you backed up effectively, deep reference to other works, a beautifully structured script. I have been watching since way before ER came out and your work, which has always been good, is definitely becoming more ‘academically sophisticated’. (yeah, I’m breaking out the pretentious phrasing for this comment, yw) F&H lore is so hard to parse when you’re actually *in* the games themselves, because it’s delivered so piecemeal and often obscured or oblique. Sometimes it’s hard to even understand exactly what is happening story-wise in the moment, let alone a deeper understanding. This video does a really good job of showing a more objective, overall view of the timeline of the world of F&H, and the true *purpose* of New Gods (which reminded me of Gwynn and his four kings and the ringed city, like - “here you go humans, here’s some “power” for you. Now shush and be good little inferior beings.”) Finally - the very deliberate way you shout out other creators and give credit is always really heartwarming to see. If anyone here is into Yoko Taro stuff I highly recommend Max Derrat’s videos on the Drakengard and Nier games too! There, that was a bit more coherent than “Yaaay!” - which was my offering to the algorithm gods as soon as I saw the notification. So glad you actually did this. Excellent job, dude.
Rarely see fear and hunger on TH-cam feed , your video breaking down the thought provoking subjects and rich lore got me very intrigued by it , pretty neat
Literally my favorite lore TH-camr, making videos on stuff I’ve been thinking about. Methinks devilry is at work here, but I’ll keep my lips sealed for the sake of knowledge. Have a great one man
The three questions that the new gods will answer for you is a brilliant stroke of design because it basically guarantees multiple replays so that the player can learn as much as possible. Limiting it to a certain amount per play through was a great idea from a design perspective. Honestly, I don’t know how this guy hasn’t been scooped up by a dev team like obsidian yet. This guy gets it
@@carlost856 I mean yeah, thank god FUNGER hasn’t, sure, but like if it’s creator was put in charge of a full development team with a AAA budget whatever would come out of that would be baller. It’s a pipe dream but like, imagine if Konami contracted him as the lead developer for the next major silent hill game- even with studio interference it would still be good af probably.
i love fear and hunger, the lore goes deep and its interesting. Imagine my surprise when my favorite lore hunter does a video on it. Love your videos Smough
No way dude, i love both funger and elden ring and just finished one of your videos and thought "Man wish I could get videos this in depth for funger" amd immediately saw this. Absolute godsend
Its taken me a bit, but I'm finally cracking into this video! I know I shouldn't be, but I was surprised to see you covering Funger. Considering your tastes, though, it makes sense. All in all, this surely will be a treat!
51:02 "But which one was it that got cast away? The conscious or the sub-conscious of the ascended one?" Considering that local jesus-figure went on a rampage after ressurection it was probably subconscious (shadow) that remained. So everyone actually worships sulfur-god without realising it, and almer's ego is buried in the sulphur pits. It's all very gnostic.
I'm ALWAYS happy to see F&H covered, this game is a force of nature! But as an admittedly easily distracted person, I gotta be honest... if your pronunciations become the default because you are one of the largest channels to cover the series, I might jump into a toilet 😅 A lot of the names of characters and places in the game are borrowed from mythology, or other fiction and games. Miro has been open about borrowing from stuff he loves. In addition to looking into the Jungian inspiration of the games, I would suggest looking into the sources of those names to get a feel for why those things might be thematically named what they are (in addition to learning about other cool stories/media you may enjoy, and learning the accurate pronunciation of the varying originating languages). As others have said, I would love to see some collabs with other F&H creators like The New Gods Podcast crew, Worm Girl, etc.
I know. I know this is petty. But no. at 17:55. Alll-Mer wasn't nearly the first. He was an project ordered Sylvian, to another entity that we don't know what it is, if it is a god, or servant of Sylvian, Vitruvia, that helped Sylvian into creating Humanity, and then received the task of "Creating the Perfect Human". And then spend millenia trying to, until they finally managed to create the human whom would become Alll-Mer. But it wasn't a easy process, it's stated that Vitruvia constantly saw flaws on their creations, obsessed in creating the perfect human. It's also said that the human that became Alll-Mer was birthed from a virgin mother and a "False God". Could this false god be Vitruvia themselves? Yes. Or could be a New God that Vitruvia convinced in helping on their project. Sorry i know it's nitchpicky but it forced me to point this point >_>
I personally don’t care because I love Funger, but as someone that engages in the content, I know that are definitely people that would love some sort of disclaimer in the description. Thanks for the video 🙏
This video is so amazing !! Im gonna watch Max's videos that you linked and also that book. I have a feeling it's mind blowing and that it will improve myself. Hey! Just wanted to say thank you so much for the kind words of encouragement. I am super grateful for all the support and that you have watched all of my content. Means the world to me, Max's videos are top quality and cannot recommend enough
It is my pleasure :) again thank you so much for what you do. Wish you the best mate ! Just finished your Wukong video and man the game and story/lore seem so cool and well designed !! It's so intriguing to see how Fear & Hunger went from extremely obscure to every channel on TH-cam doing a video essay about it XD I love it
I have to second this. I first learned of the game like a month ago and now its showing up everywhere
I heard about it thanks to a vtuber named Tenma Maemi playing it like a year ago
It's been pretty popular since last year lmao
The first big boom was probably from SuperEyepatchWolf making a video about it
@@Thunderous333 Define pretty popular because its booming right now
The only thing I think you might have wrong is that the player character in FH1 and the contestents in FH2 have special souls.
Lesser souls in FH1 is the captured of these lights, the reduction of the light by the darkness of the god of the depth that dehumanizing them into monsters.
theres also the clock in FH2 representing all the souls
Astrology is very real you can go into any community of or ask any light worker or shaman or esoterists.. they'll say the same.
Horoscopes relate to that like any fuckin charlatan does to the niche they try to imitate. They're just broad statements and bullshit but to think that these massive bodies and celestial objects that are made of the same shit we are wouldn't influence or effect us in some way is actually just kinda dumb.
One of the characters has a literal blank soul. Said blank soul doesn't even have a moonscorched form. He just turns into pocketcat.
@@OneManCast it is not he doesnt have moonscorched form. Dan is just "empty", deep within his visage as a doctor he doesnt have any drives to be anything thus when it come out, it just a blank canvas that an Old god's servant such as Pocketcat can step in and fill in the blank

@@greglane334Where can we see it?
@@Khann_2102 he did a face reveal a month ish ago maybe
Your Daan theory is the best one I've heard so far
And all of that while he’s on autopilot. I shudder to think of what he could do when active.
I'm realizing that the entire Persona franchise from Shin Megami Tensei is basically a love letter to Carl Jung's philosophy.
Way back in the 90's, the fandom had alot of psychologists and occultists.
It still shocks and amuses me to see modern Persona fans and think to the long form debates on... oh... the impact of the conscious self on reality within the scope of conceptual reality; delimited by personal perception and conception.
… Persona is in the title
Wait until you find out where the name Philemon comes from
@@arthurpprado is Philemon even in newer Persona games?
@@ЕкатеринаСеренкова no, his last appearance is in Eternal Punishment. Still, Igor is his servant and has been present all along
Travel?
Not to mention the TRUNK looks similar to a pelvis
Indeed
What’s the first thing people see when they see you?
@@GaijinEncarmine In Russian language we have a phrase:"Слон в посудной лавке" referring to a clumsy and unfitting person
Regarding Abella moonscorched form besides the probable parasite thing, there are also a couple of elements that could be linked to her "shadow" self:
She works as a mechanic, a mostly masculine environment and despite being a nice lady, her moonscorched form being very "manish" may be a reflection of that.

A full synthesis of the Shadow and Persona was theorized, but such a being would be akin to a god, and as such isn't likely possible within humans.
much appreciated!
a god...an...asended god
well, also because it’s the psych equivalent of turning lead into gold.
if you're interested in this the persona series especially persona 4 dives into these sort of things as it's based on Carl Jung and his book about shadows and personas
So Pocket Cat?
Max getting the extended shout out, nice
I think the most generous interpretation of Rher is that he would prefer humanity to carve out their own place in the world, instead of intruding on the realm of gods.
"You guys can do anything you want as long it's over THERE"
OH MY GOD NO WAY YOU ARE DOING FUNGER VIDEOS THANK YOU I LOVE YOU SMOUGH
I never expected you to dive into Fear & Hunger and am legitimatly excited that you are. Thank you!

My favorite channel covering one of my new favorite video games?
Damn, it’s good to be alive.
The cocoon is empty as well.

It's interesting when you find out that two of your favorite pieces of recent fiction ("graylock" and "fear and hunger" ) are both heavily inspired by the the same thing, in this scenario jungean psychology.
Also I had a thought please someone say if it makes any sense but :
If old gods are like or are the fundamentals of existence doesn't it mean that the idea that the new gods cannot install change is in fact reverse?
Just a minor correction : the sulfur god did not come from the second Great War, he actually has been around since all mere's ascension

Great video!
abella's form is likely due to the juxtaposition of her masculine physical form and her love of romance (she comments on this in party talk a few times) I think she is aware that she's not very feminine for the era and that comes out in Chaugnar
and irt the player souls, there isn't an actual reason the player moonscorched are stronger, miro has said on twitter he didn't really think about it. The difference between "lesser souls" and named souls is mostly just gameplay

Think about it, a collective hive mind of human ideas all interconnected, archived and accessible. Able to be understood regardless of location, nation, religion or culture. Pretty deep incredible stuff for a indy game.

(yeah, I’m breaking out the pretentious phrasing for this comment, yw)
F&H lore is so hard to parse when you’re actually *in* the games themselves, because it’s delivered so piecemeal and often obscured or oblique. Now shush and be good little inferior beings.”)
Finally - the very deliberate way you shout out other creators and give credit is always really heartwarming to see.

Hope you enjoy my take!
Literally my favorite lore TH-camr, making videos on stuff I’ve been thinking about. Methinks devilry is at work here, but I’ll keep my lips sealed for the sake of knowledge. Have a great one man
Cheers dude - appreciate the kind words
Hope you have a good one too
Hell yeah brotha!! super excited to watch :)
Thank you my friend! Enjoy
Please do more lore videos on fear and hunger. I love the lore of these games and I love the style of your videos. Please keep it up.
Funger content! Can’t wait to see you do more of this ❤
So happy you tried this game!
Me too! I love it!
Nas'hrah has become one of my favorite characters in fiction, such a shame he didn't play a bigger role in the sequel
he's so me
This was such a great watch!!
Thank you so much!
This is enlightening not just for the game but for helping to understand Jungian psychology too.
Thank you so much for this brilliant video.
That's a tremendous work you've accomplished here. It's with great pleasure that I will absorb those knowledges
This guy gets it
Thank love it hasn't been picked up.
Thanks for being here my friend
First time I see Funger content from you, very nice, please more :)
One of my favorite games being covered by my favorite lore master omg thank the old Gods 💕
Hope you like my take on it!
Awesome video bro . Usually here for elden ring lore but starting to super appreciate your total catalogue of videos
I'm ALWAYS happy to see F&H covered, this game is a force of nature! But as an admittedly easily distracted person, I gotta be honest... if your pronunciations become the default because you are one of the largest channels to cover the series, I might jump into a toilet 😅
A lot of the names of characters and places in the game are borrowed from mythology, or other fiction and games.
My favorite lore youtuber explaining the lore to one of my favorite games? Hell yeah!
SMOUGH!! u r my fav lore diver bro. Much luv.
Much love back my friend
Can’t get over this game so glad you are making a video on it!🎉
Me neither - think about it all the time
I personally don’t care because I love Funger, but as someone that engages in the content, I know that are definitely people that would love some sort of disclaimer in the description. Thanks for the video 🙏
I’ve been enjoying Fear & Hunger 2: Termina for over 110 hours. I’m very glad you’re covering one of my favorite games.
Genuinely so good - so happy I found this game series
This video is so amazing !! Im gonna watch Max's videos that you linked and also that book. I have a feeling it's mind blowing and that it will improve myself. Good stuff as always
Nice! Really interested to hear your take on everything in this game
I hope you enjoy my take on it! Really excited to get into the lore of this world
@@SmoughTown it was great! Honestly some of this stuff (Jungian theory) goes over my head a bit but it’s really interesting regardless. Definitely going to have to give it a rewatch
I love this game series and im so happy to see one of my favorite lore channels cover it
Hey Smoughtown, I highly recommend watching Wormgirl's videos breaking down the most likely 'canonical' events of Fear & Hunger
